I am totally stumped by this word. I have tried looking in a dictionary but cant find the word. A friend told me 'Idoims' are sayings but they could not give me an example so that was not alot of help. It sounds like a Greek word to me, but I could and probably am wrong. Can any mylotters explain, preferably with examples so I can understand alot better. Thanks

I believe you are thinking of the word "idiom", which means an expression whose meaning is not predictable from the usual meanings of its constituent elements.

For example "a chip on his shoulder", "a dime a dozen", or "crying over spilt milk"

Your right , I think I ahve spelt it wrong, idiom is waht I meant. Sadly your explanation just leaves me equally as confused to it's meaning. Thanks for the response and have a happy fun day.

Idiom is short for idiomatic expressions. I think if you search your dictionary for that you'll find the full definition
