Gissi and I went for our morning Field walk this morning it ended up being a sad walk
We got to the Field all his Friends where there Little Molly (who Gissi really likes) Bonnie, Westy (who had rolled in muck and was Black and white instead of white), the only Whisky Dog Gissi gets on with, then there was the big black long haired Lab Clyde who is 13 years old, there is also a Lassie Dog but do not know his Name
All the Dogs started plying apart from Clyde he never does as he is to old, Gissi was chasing Molly, who in return snarled at him, she was not in the mood this morning, Westie was still rolling in much driving his owner crazy next thing I saw Clyde collapse he had problems breathing, at first his owner told him to get up to go home but Clyde by this time could not stand up or breathe properly, I went over to Clyde and saw all the froth coming out of his mouth, his owner tried to pull him up to get him to walk, I gently told him, Clyde can not stand or walk, I know the owner was panicking I would have to, he then called his Wife and explained, she was coming round with the Car, I was kneeling next to Clyde, gently stroking him, we tried to rub his throat in case something was stuck, it did not work, more and more froth was coming out of his mouth and his breathing was shallow, all the Dogs, yes even Gissi, stopped running around and just all sat there, I knew Clyde was on his way to Rainbow bridge, it broke my Heart to watch this, the owner tried again to pull him up, I told him no not to, his Friends to told him not to, tht he is not able to stand, Clydes Tongue was turning purple, I just knelt there stroking him and talking to him, I had tears in my eyes, watching poor Clyde like that was awful, but I stayed with him while the Owner pulled himself together, I really felt for him and wished I could just make Clyde better, but I could see what was happening, The Man's Wife turned up and 2 of them had to carry the Dog to the other side of the Field, I could see the Wife started to cry, when she got out the Car and saw Clyde once I knew they would be ok now, Gissi and I went home, I do not believe that we will see Clyde again, the Strange thing was all Dogs had gone really quiet, Gissi just walked next to me all the way Home and has been a bit quiet also sitting next to me a lot more then usual
I guess they all sensed that their Friend was very poorly
So have you ever experienced something like this?
This is my second experienced on soothing a dying Dog, the first time was many years ago when I was on my way to work and a Dog got hit by a Truck, the Guy was ok and everyone was round him, no one bothered about the Dog that was lying in the Ditch, I sat with him holding him and talking to him till the Vet came that the Police had called, the poor thing never made it
It just breaks my Heart

Gabs, you can just about start a new discussion about being careful when you give dogs bones and tell everyone that Clyde made it. We all appreciate this personal touch, though when you are telling us. I just could not seem to get back to my box so I am here with tessah.

So sad. I think the average lifespan of labs is 10 to 12 years so he is definitely a senior. I do hope he recovers.

Good news! My first thought was that he had eaten something toxic to dogs.

Hi gabs,
Oh, that is so sad, I wouldn't be able to hold my tears, I am surprise of the owner of the dog trying to make him walk whe the dog is so sick, he should have brtought him out, but when all the dogs went silence and sat down, they knew something was up, dogs sense it and as for Gissi being quiet, he is paying his respect, it is really sad. You are so good hun to do that for Clyde.

I had an old dog named Tippy who finally got to where he could not use his hind legs. He peed on himself and I finally got to where I'd help him up to go out.
It got worse and worse and finally on a Wed---I remember cuz it was bingo nite, but he was moaning and crying in pain.
I laid in the floor with him and didnt quite know what to do but as I lived on a mountain in MT and no way at that time of night could I get him to a vet.
I called a friend who couldn't come til the next morning and he put him out of his misery the next morning.
That whole night I laid in the floor with Tippy and the other two dogs and cats just sat close by and only moved when they had to go out.
It was an amazing night as the other animals seemed to know that Tippy was in terrible pain and to let him and me be.
That happened again with another old dog but not quite the same. Still the other animals understood his need to be left alone and when we had to put him down it's like they knew.
I get my heart broke by animals more than I do people it seems. You'd think I'd learn but I love them so much I just want them around.I'm selfish I guess.
I feel sorry for the owner of Clyde and his wife. You did good Gabs and God bless you.
hugs,
quita

I'm so sorry to hear about Clyde. Please let us know if he made it, even though I kind of doubt it. I've had to comfort my own dying dogs, never anyone else's. I'm crying just thinking about it. I've also had to put down several dogs, and that's always difficult too. Thanks for sharing this story, Gabs. Hope Gissi is doing well.

This is so sad Gabs. Although it was so hard on you, it is a good thing that you were there for Clyde. His owner obviously had no mind about him to keep trying to make his poor baby get up and walk. How sad...
Just know that you did what you could to comfort him until his mom came. He got the loving and care he needs when she got there.
I'm afraid you are right that you won't see Clyde when you next visit the park. He is gone to rainbow bridge. He can now run with Ninja, Boxer, and all of the others there while they wait for us to come join them.
My thoughts and prayers go out to Clyde, his family and friends, and to you and Gissi.

Oh my goodness...now where did he get that darn bone? If his parents gave it to him I guess they won't do that again.
I'm so glad that he will be okay. Bless his little heart.
Gabs, I won't be here for a few days. I just got a phone call that my grandma passed away. I will be picking up my husband late tomorrow night and then making the trip to Alabama since her services and all are on Saturday.
The family forgot about me and Britt having to get there too so we are going to be rushed to make it.
Please let people know for me on Gissi's place. Thank you so much.

Hi gabs, yes that is very sad but I don't think it's strange that the dogs went quiet, animals are able to sense these things. I love animals and can't stand to see them get hurt. I feel that there is a connection between all living things. Why do some people use the term 'dumb animals', sometimes I think they know more than us. Blessings.

Awwwww big hugzzzzz Sweets that is a sad start to your day......I have never myself encountered something like that but with my first kittly Maximus he got out for a week on the prowel my son and I were walking home it had just gotton dark out and across the street I seen this cat and heard a meow walked over and it was my Maxi......When I got up to him my heart sank....Someone had hit him with a car his pelvis was broken he was dragging his hind legs....But some how he knew how to get home and reconized us I brought him in the house fed him and cuddled him even tho he was in pain and could barely walk still used his litter box....I slept with him that night telling him how much I loved him and he was loved I knew when he went to the vet the next day he wouldn't come home....
Took him to the vet and got the call with the bad news as I had suspected and we had to put him to sleep....I gave myself a few weeks then my son wanted another cat so then we Got Jepordy lol....But I had to give him to the SPCA as I thought I was moving where would be hard to find a place that would allow pets....Then finally my CoCo hehe and he is still here...

hi gabs oh that poor dog, I am sitting here seeing this so vividly and feeling for you ,and Clyde and his masters too. I have tears in my eyes and think back to the time when I was in my teens and was with my parents on a vacation trip. a dog ran out in front of my dad's car and he just could not stop in time and hit it. I cried pull over let me out we must help the dog,but damn mydad drove right on by. I never really did want to forgive him for that but finally did. I hurt when I looked back and the dog was being held by a little boy who was crying. I learned again you can hate a parent and be right in doing it. It must have been Clyde's time to go to the rainbow bridge. of course Gissi and the ohter dogs knew at once what was going on . gissi would especially know as he is very smart and intuitive too. why can people be so callous whenthey hit an animal? and it is against the law to leave an animal like that even if you could not avoid the accident. you still are supposed to stop and report it.hugs to you and my friend in the doggy suit Gissi.

It certainly sounded like he was choking and his airway was closing off. Definitely his friends were very aware of his plight and feared for losing their dear friend.
I was very depressed by this, as I just lost my dear 92 yr old Gramma on Sunday.
But I am so very, very glad to hear that Clyde is recovering because they were able to get him to the vet's in time.

Good morning Gaby
Such a sad story to start the day..I feel really bad. Poor Clyde. This is the only part of being a pet owner that I hate..When they have to leave us. We all know the day will come but it dosen't make it any easier when it does. Such a heartbreak. A family member that just dosen't seem to get enough time on this earth. My prayers are with Clyde and his family..

I lost my Katie last year (just before Thanksgiving). She had cancer and the day she went across the rainbow bridge I sat and held her for over an hour. She wasn't in any pain, and I couldn't drive at that point and my BF was in town. (I drive over an hour to get to town, and it would have been a traumatic trip for Katie.) I sat with her wrapped up in her favorite blanket and stroked her and talked to her. I also sang to her (which is unusual for me as my singing sounds like you rounded up a dozen tom cats and stuck them in a sack with a female in heat! I can't carry a tune to save my life!) She looked up at me one last time, gave my hand a lick and passed away. I cry even now almost 6 months later.
It seemed like I was always the one to comfort our animals just before they passed over the bridge. From age 7 or 8 I was always there for our animals and would always be by their side in their last hours. I have never gotten used to losing any furry buddy.
It sounds like Clyde may have had a massive stroke, which will at least be a less painful experience for him. It doesn't make it any less painful for you, because it seems like all of us animal lovers can't stand to say "Good Bye" to our four legged furry buddies. I even cry over a deceased field mouse!

This is always painful for those left behind, but animals accept this as natural and I think the dogs at the park were reacting to the response from the other humans. Be happy for Clyde, he is released from an old worn out body. And at the same time be sad for his family who will miss him as we all do when we loose someone, two legged or four legged it doesn't really matter. It's all part of nature. Blessings
