I just read that legumes are a lot better to steady your blood sugar if you have diabetes II than whole grain meals. I do not make legumes often in spite of liking them. But I make them in the pressure cooker and I hate to wash it.. But just now, I thought that I might cook a whole kilo and freeze the portions that I will not use. I love lentils, chickpeas and black beans. Do you eat legumes often, friends? What is your favorite legume? Did you know that legumes were better than whole wheat to lower blood levels? Besides, it seems legumes are filling but they are not that high in calories. Happy posting and happy legume eating!

Legumes are in the bean category, right? I don't eat them too often, I hate to say. I probably need to, though. I used to eat them all the time when I went to Weight Watchers. I've just gotten to where I don't care for canned beans any more. I love fresh beans, though. Kathy.

I have been eating Kidney Beans here lately. I used to didn't care for them that much but I found out they were better than I thought they were. I alzso found out that they are not that high in calorie and they have a lot of fiber in them. Kathy.

Start trying different dishes with legumes. They are not that high in calories, have a good amount of protein. Besides they are filling. Fava beans are also out of this world.

How do you cook the beans, Jo? We`d better start doing something to eat all we want and yet slim down. I am checking on recipes with little cholesterol Came up with some oatmeal cookies to make with Diego and there`s a grilled eggplant in my computer that I havençt yet read.

The way I like them best is with (I don`t know if the English is right)pigskin with the hard grease underneath. I fry that, add diced onions, garlic, spice it a bit hot and add to the cooked beans. Sometimes I do a sort of Sring beans with diced green beans, corn and diced pimientos. I sure would like yours and then spend 2 days drinking hot mint teas

I love to eat beans and other legumes. My family survived the depression by eating a lot of beans. Even long after the depression Grandma fixed beans at least twice a month. I was surprised to learn that they had more fiber than the grains. right now i'm on a kick of eating blackeyed peas. When I first tasted them they tasted like burnt beans but now I really like the. I also have some northern beans with some kale in the freezer. I like to fix mine in the slow cooker with lots of water for the soup.

Beans and other legumes are wonderful sources of vegetable proteins. The kick is to mix two in the same dish. Like lentils AND rice. I also like garbanzos with rice.

I try to use legumes in 3 or 4 meals per week. Plus I keep peanuts and soy nuts around the house for snacking. I can't really say that I have a favorite, maybe because my tastes are so seasonal. In warmer weather I make a lot of hummus, while in the colder weather I make chili with either red beans or black beans. Probably my least favorite is lentils. But, I like all the rest of them.

I always forget to make hummus and I like it so much.. I like lentils very much but they are a lot better since I learned to cook them adding some milk to the water and no salt. When they are cooked, I add the salt, fried onion and the rest of the nice ingredients.

I eat it seldom only if there is an occasion at home. I will mix it w/ little meat and some spices to make it delicious. Thanks for the idea that it helps with the steady of blood sugar but it also causes to some pain like arthritis and pains of bones. Its good if you not suffer bone pains then you can eat this always but if you have it can also add pains too. So thios can be eaten for those no allergies of beans. Eating too much of it would be fine if you have no abnormalities on the other ares of the body.

legumes are rich in fiber and proteins ,and also contains high levels of potassium and can be used daily.potassium in legumes lowers blood pressure. there will be no cholestrol. we indians use daily garbanzo beans, black beans, peanuts (a little of 2 spoons each)in my daily meal. it is compulsory in my diet and a habit like in my custom.there will be many of my recipes with this black beans, garbanzo beans, kidney beans, yellow lentil, peas ,green gram, horsegram etc and we will take these legumes with rice daily .we will use whole legumes or spilt ones. u can cook in pressure cooker and can use.otherwise soak the legumes overnight and cook little bit and eat. see below matter in the link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Legume Legumes contain relatively low quantities of the essential amino acid methionine. To compensate, some vegetarian cultures serve legumes along with grains, which are low in the essential amino acid lysine, which legumes contain. Thus a combination of legumes with grains forms a well-balanced diet for vegetarians. Common examples of such combinations are dal with rice by Indians, and beans with corn tortillas, tofu with rice, and peanut butter with wheat bread (as sandwiches) in several other cultures, including Americans. see calories and nutrition of legumes and lentils in the link http://www.calorie-counter.net/calories-in-beans-legumes.htm

My favourite would be lentils, and it's great when you're making pea and ham soup when using lentils and a bacon rib. The flavours are stronger that way. I often eat chickpeas too though because my girls (both are maltese x shih tzus) also LOVE chick peas, so they'll get these as treats more than commercialised doggy treats.

I love lentils too. I make them very easily but my tip is to cook them with the addition of some milk (no salt). I salt them when I put the other ingredients.

I prepare this in our menu at least 3 times a week cooking different varieties. I've also learned that peas and beans are good source of protein and so I always include this for my growing kids.

All legumes are great sources of protein. And they are a better source of calories for diabetics too.
