I've never spoken to god before and gotten a voice response in my head - more of a feeling. Have you ever spoke to God before and received a response? What was it like?

I have prayed and felt God responding with a voice in my head. But as with all things regarding religion, it is a personal thing. Maybe, because of what I know of God from what I've learned through church and the Bible, I am basically answering my own concerns. And other times, like now, when things are not going the way I'd like for them to go, I can't seem to hear a peep out of Him. So I just have to have faith that He's here and He just hasn't answered me yet.

I've often wondered, how do you tell what is God, and what is your own imagination? I can't tell the difference.

Understanding the voice of God speaking to you is not as simply as most think it should be. For one thing, it is a fact that a person must be in a state of grace before s/he can expect to hear His voice with certainty. The devil too can whisper deceptive voices in our mind, which can certainly mislead us when we are not in the state of grace. So before that "hearing of God's voice" happen, a person need to put his/her life in order, back to God's grace. Seek forgiveness for your sins to reconcile oneself to God. Then a person need time to develop a prayerful life; that means learning how to really pray to the point you can talk to God wherever you are outside the prayer room. It is a long subject to discuss here. What I would suggest is to look for a spiritual director, whom you can obtain guidance in a life of prayer. I am a Roman Catholic so I can only recommend a person who is also one. If you do not belong to my church, you can seek the help of an elder Christian in your church (a pastor perhaps who has evidently good spiritual life). If you can't find one, and want to try what Catholics can provide, I would recommend seeing a Jesuit priest. Jesuits are founded by Saint Ignatius of Loyola, who contributed to the church the gift of the spiritual retreat. Good retreat masters are also good spiritual directors. Choose someone you are comfortable to relate with on a regular basis as you grow spiritually. If you are serious in this search for closeness to God, I will be glad to bade you a blessed journey. But there will come a time when you become spiritually mature and can already live your life without his guidance. But that might take some time.

prayer is our way of communicating to God, when we pray we are talking to God and the answer to our prayer is the response of God.

I think alot of people are pretending they talk to God. They think the little voice in their head is God. They say stuff like oh if you listen carefully to your heart you'll hear God. I use to think that's how it was. But I read the bible alot, and I learned its not like that at all. It says if God is talking to you that you'll know it. It will be very clear. A voice speaking to you. Not some crap you make up in your head. Anyone listening to their heart, must be really full of themselves to think that they are God. If you can't hear it, it means God is not talking to you. I've never heard God talk to me. And its not because I'm not listening. You can hear someone even if you aren't listening to them. And well I kind of like it that way. If God talked to me I might freak out. That would be scary.

God's IQ is really up there. To top it off most people simply do not understand what is going on with this world. People also see and hear what they want bending the conversation their way.Would people listen anyway??? Do they really want to talk to God??? Don't they call you crazy if you admit this???? The reality is that God will talk to people, however for all the reasons above, most come out confused. God has the sum of all knowledge. That is why so few really understand Him.

Nothing I would call a voice or even a sense of someone else there that was not my own imagination. It's been rather disappointing, actually.
