Do you make excuses for yourself?

Maybe I should rephrase that. Do you make poor excuses for yourself? Do you put off something rationalizing that you can do it later, or something else is more important than what you really need to be doing? Do you treat someone badly, then make an excuse well, they were mean to me first? I can just hear someone saying, well these ARE good excuses. So if you feel these are good excuses, can you tell me an excuse you use that you know is totally bogus? I know I make excuses for myself. I think well, I don't have anything to do tomorrow, so I'll put off going to see such and such until tomorrow. But then tomorrow comes and I don't take care of business. Or I won't be hungry, but when someone offers me something to eat that I shouldn't, I think well I won't eat dinner, and that will make up the calories. But then dinner rolls around, I'm hungry, so I eat dinner anyway.
So what do you have folks? What excuses (poor, pathetic, silly) do you make for yourself? I'll be really interested in hearing from people who can really face things in their lives they know could use improvement. Heaven knows, I need improvement.

Well the most common excuses for ourselves is "I will start my diet tomorrow". And I am one of those doing this excuse most often than not. That's why I decided not to think of going on a diet anymore, so not to be feeling guilty of making excuses, and sometimes not thinking of it helps more to lose weight. I just didn't notice I was losing weight when I didn't even intend to. Maybe because the more you deprive yourself of something the more you crave for it.

hi assinertata I finally decided not to c all it starting a diet, but instead making myself follow a lifestyle change, such as cutting back some on carbs, ducking the cake and cookie desserts they serve here, and just halving the amountof rice, noodles and other pasta they serve. I think they are using the amt of calories a man needs here, while I am a woman overweight and not at all active unless typing here at mylotting is an activity, the thing is that way I never feel deprived yet I have cut back on calories as I just halved the high carb foods they serve here. after all I am typing not digging ditches. lol lol lol.I just started so it may be awhile before my weight moves down

Are we talking about exercising here?
It seems the poorest of all excuses that I make, that I seem to be making a lot lately concerns exercising or working out. I would often hear myself say, I was too busy at work today that I deserve to relax the rest of the day. And then I give in.
So up to now, I still have to make and complete weekly schedule of exercising. That's if I don't come up with another pathetic excuse.
Is it time to work out?

Well I do sometimes make excuses for myself yes
Like you I put things of to the next Day sometimes because well I want to be on the Laptop and it can wait till the next Day
Or if I am to tired to go shopping, I say to myself well the Shop is still there tomorrow or the next Day so I might as well leave it till then
Phone calls if I have to phone a company or something, I know I can't be asked with the stupid automated Services so I just say to myself, I might feel like it tomorrow
So yes at times I do

I sure do. Most of the time, it happens when I have my mind on one thing and before it gets done, I don't bother doing anything else. Some people call this lazy streak, some people call it 'result of making priorities'.
I usually just say 'I don't have time' rather than doing something when my mind is somewhere else. Of course then, if it's house chores I have to do every day. just because I live and work at home, so there is no way around it :)
How are you, Ambie? I left you a comment (not pm) but it doesn't allow me to leave a comment on your page.

I also do it too. We all do it cuz we don't wanna be wronged, even by ourselves so instead, we just make an excuse to make us feel better about it. And if we don't wanna do something, we can always find a whole lot of excuses for it. I even think we won't run out of it. Lol. :)

Unfortunately I do tend to put off until tomorrow that which I really should do today. I often think that I have more time than I really do have, so I will often put things on hold only to find myself panicing later.

I can't remember ever putting things off, even if they're things I don't want to do. I've always been the kind to get it done so it's one less thing to worry about. Maybe it's cuz I'm Aries, the "do-ers and shakers", the leaders. I'm not quite convinced of that but there could be something to it. It could be because I could never quite get the approval from my mother that I always wanted, so I always tried harder. Who knows?
Of course, I've done some stupid things and made the obvious excuse, for me at least, I'm a blonde. LOL Well, okay, strawberry blonde but there's enough blonde in there to use it as an excuse.
I need improvement just as anyone else but who cares? I like who I am, flaws and all.

Hi AmbiePam, I was actually sighing with relief after reading your post because that is how I realized that I am not alone after all! I think I have made more excuses in my life than I ever did what I promised to do. It's called PROCRASTINATION. In our culture, it's called MaƱana Habit - putting off tomorrow or later what can be done today. A lot of us would say we got it from the Spaniards who colonized Philippines for over 300 years,....but then again, that is another lame excuse!

Hi Ambie,
Guilty as charged, I mean for making excuses. I guess we are all guilty of this. Whenever I don't feel like doing something, I make excuses to justify my action. I've missed some opportunities because of this, and though some I've had regrets, mostly I just let it pass. No use crying over spilled milk anyway.

I have one very poor excuse I use all the time when I can't be bothered to do something and it is:
"I feel tired"
Thats it. I'm too tired to concentrate to do my studying, I'm too tired to do some exercise, I'm too tired to do housework, I'm too tired to go to work and on and on. At the moment, I have a back injury and so I use the pain from that to not do anything if I don't feel like it. I'm also forever saying "I'll do it tomorrow" and finally do it 6 months later.

I used to do more work at my home and in my office. But I very lazy. I have very less memory which is true. I have more pressure from the boss for delaying the work. I he asks me my answer is "I dont have free time, Today I have more work in the office". I really want to do work in the correct time. Now i'm doing fair in my office. But when coming to home, I'm forgetting my work. But my excuse is simply i'm tired.

I usually make excuses for myself when something is not finished in certain time.Like when i don't want to do the thing ,i will make some excuses for myslef not to do it,like it's too late,i can do it tomorrow etc.In other cases,i also will make excuses for doing something wrong to comfort myself. This will make myself better.

"I'll do it later."When I didn't do something ,I always make such excuse, maybe tomorrow maybe the day after tomorrow. In fact an excuse is necessary sometimes because it will make you feel better.
Maybe it isn't a good response,but I'll make another better tomorrow.haha.

I'm right there with you as needing improvement in this area! I use everything under the sun to keep from doing this or that. I addressed this issue in one of my discussions, but I put off finishing my wedding 'Thank You' cards for over nine months. My excuse was, "We haven't been married for a year yet." (I guess after being married for a year then it would look really bad if we hadn't gotten all the cards out yet!) Well, this past weekend I completely finished them and feel much better that that's out of the way! When I was younger, I hated going out to eat every single night with my parents because I got so tired of going out when we could save time and money eating in. I had homework and other things to get done, so I'd want to stick around the house instead of investing two or three hours in eating out and giving myself yet another excuse to procrastinate. So...the only reasonable excuse my parents would accept in my not going out to dinner was, "I don't feel well." That's how I would get out of it. I think this excuse and the reasons behind not going out to dinner every single night were justified. With most situations, though, my excuses are never justified. I put off some many things with so many crazy excuses, it's not even funny! I could go on and on about it, but I'll spare you! Another example would be when my husband and I need to get more things done on our house. My in-laws come on Saturdays to help us get a lot more stuff done than we would with just the two of us. My current excuse to procrastinate painting the bathroom is that they're coming down this Saturday, and we'll be able to get it done then. Now I know for a fact we won't because I have a hair appointment and lunch date both with my mother-in-law the first half of the day. There is no way we'll be able to paint the whole bathroom. That leaves some homework to me, which I'm trying to put off - LOL. My husband still have to sand the walls and some other things before I can finish the painting, but I'm trying not to wait until the last minute on this project of ours because, for crying out loud, it's stuff getting done on the house! It's not like it's homework or stuff for work or anything. Thank goodness my portfolio of excuses don't carry over to work things. I get everything done that I can. I've cured myself of all procrastination at work because I don't want bad reviews, and frankly, I like having a job! (LOL) Excellent discussion, my friend. I definitely need to work on this area of my life!

hi AmbiePam oh you did touch a spot with me,I was putting off having my eyes checked, then got put on steroids and had a horrible time with my blood sugar so I have put off the eye exam with the excuse that probably until the steroids are clear out of my system my eyes might not check out correctly meaning really I may give a false reading then later if I did it the reading would be different high blood glucose does affect how yu see so I may be right in waiting? Also I did put off having my A1C done for the s ame reason it will be false as I ordinarily never have that high blood sugar readings. but are they good or bad, some of both probably as I could have done both of those things before I got put on steroids. I hate it when I procrastinate but I do do it. lol lol lol.
I am one for making excuses to do medical stuff and why I am not sure, as usually the sooner you do things the better off you always are.

I do make excuses for myself at times. I think everyone does. It's usually when I don't feel like doing something i'm supposed to do and my excuse is I need or deserve a break but actually i was just being lazy. lol It's normal though but I do feel some kind of guilt whenever I ruin somebody else's plan because of my excuses. That doesn't happen frequently though.

I'm really good at procrastinating. I can find a million excuses for not watering the yard, not cleaning the house, not doing the laundry, etc. Usually, my excuse is "I'm tired today and I'll do it tomorrow and set the whole day aside to do nothing but house/yard work". Well, tomorrow comes and I'm tired and I set the next day asided to do nothing but house/yard work. Eventually, I'll do it, but it could be days later.

for me its procrastinating that is taking over my life! lol when it comes to doing my homework i always make excuses to put it off. the most logistical excuse is probably family. i think that school takes away too much family time so its not fair that we have to go home and do work when we should be with family. so thats my excuse and im sticking to it! lol
