Today's my Mom's 82nd birthday. We don't have a party planned like we did for 80th, but my Sister and Brother-in-law will be coming in from out of town and we plan to take her out to dinner. After that, I'm not sure what we'll do. Sometimes, we just rent a DVD and watch a movie. Since Mom's in the downsizing mode, I didn't buy her clothes, stuff for her house, etc. I just got her a gift card to the Red Lobster. She loves to eat out! Do you do anything special for your Mom's birthday? We tend to have big parties for the decade birthdays. How about you?

Happy birthday, Mom...
We went to Yosemite for my Dad's 60th, Lake Tahoe for Mom's 60th, to a jazz concert for Dad's 70th. For mom's 70th, she was just home from the hospital, so we had a small gathering. For dad's 75th we had a family gathering. I guess we'll do something large for dad's 80th, don't know what yet.
as for my 50th, don't ask (insert annoyed smiley here)

Yeah, we usually do something big on the decades and the 5's. This year it was small, but we had a good time. Ate a lot and watched movies... As for your 50th, I think you should have a great big party! I had one in October for my 60th...it was cool. Thanks, Dawn.

We mostly keep parties to the kids and do a nice big family dinner/bbq for the adults. Your ideas sound great for your mom. My mom has her birthday in July, I usually get her a gift from a local nursery because she really likes to landscape her yard - its beautiful! She put in two ponds. I think at a certain age, you run out of things you need and it is more about spending time with loved ones!

This morning, we went to breakfast at her favorite place...Village Inn. The Villagers brought her a piece of lemon and something pie, and the restaurant sang Happy Birthday to her. She teared up. Then my sister and brother-in-law took off for home. Mom, Brian (my roommate) and I ate more pie at Mom's house. Mom said, "I love you and I had a wonderful time". I guess she enjoyed her day. Thanks! (Then I took a nap and started working on the video for the Food Bank...)

For the big decade birthdays we usually have a party. My mom just turned 50 a few years ago so we had a huge picnic. Her birthday is in August so that works out nice because we had a huge picnic outside. We invited everyone and had a nice birthday. I know what you mean about not buying things. My husband's great grandmother is 108. What do you buy someone who has lived that long and has everything. Even buying our parents things sometimes is challenging. Happy Birthday to your Mom!

Thanks, Ravinskye. A big picnic sounds great! Today the wind was blowing, so it wouldn't have been a good day for a picnic. We went to a Mexican restaurant, and ate so much at lunch, none of us wanted to go out for dinner. Tomorrow morning, we'll go out to breakfast to send my sister and brother-in-law off (they're headed home). Thanks, again, for the birthday wish.

Hi hofferp. When it's my mom's birthday, we take her out on a dinner to a place she's never gone before. And what we did last time was we took her out on a vacation, about an hour and a half ride from town. It's was a beautiful place wherein you can really enjoy the climate, the sceneries, and restaurants around. It was a great overnight vacation for her since she got to spend intimate time with us and had a chance to at least, relax a little bit from our busy world.

That sounds really nice...a mini vacation. I plan to take Mom to Ruidoso, about 2 hours from here, next week. She wants to go to a casino. So that will be kind of a mini vacation, except we don't stay overnight, usually. It's just an opportunity to get out of the house for a few hours. Thanks for your comments, Npadecio.

Thank you so much for your birthday wish. I'll plan on doing something much bigger for Mom's birthday, just for you, Mjanakha. Do you just pick a date and celebrate your Mom's birthday? I think I would...a special day you get to pick... Thanks again for your thoughts and wishes.

Hi, it is my Mom's birthday tomorrow. She is in her early 70's and yes, we always do something!
As usual, I gift something practical as well as take her out for dinner, which I will be doing. For a gift, she wants, of all things, salt n pepper shakers..
I am going to add a couple sets of cotton dish towels and cloths.
Initially, besides a dinner request, my mom also wants to go sky diving.
She can, I'm not but i will take her there.
Since that plan has been postponed for different reasons but i think my brother telling her that he thinks anyone who would jump out of a perfectly good airplane has to be nuts.
Somehow I agree with him.
I thought to take her to the Raptor place instead maybe fun!
Watch the big birds of prey.
We don't do huge family gatherings and parties anymore. As my Mom gets older, she enjoy more peaceful gathering. Less activity and quiet. Suits me fine!
I must get out shopping as her birthday is tomorrow.
Today, I am stopping by to do a big Spring cleaning that is actually a surprise but one that I am sure that she will enjoy!
Cheers!

Thank you for your comment. Although her birthday was yesterday, I will get to her your birthday wishes. Thanking in advance for her.
Well plans changed yesterday. She was too tired to go out so we visited and then we had nachos for dinner as per her request. The night before I made curried chicken for dinner, as per her request as well.
Yes, the Spring Cleaning is a great thing to do for our parents who can't wuite get there as much as they'd like.
Sometimes I make little gift certificated, each good for two hours of either house cleaning or computer work.
We laugh, it's fun and although the coupons never get redeemed, I still do the work on a regular basis because regardless, it needs to be done.
My Mom can barely walk too due to her back, lifting patience through out her nursing career. But she insists she wants to sky dive :o
We did have a nice day, thank you.

Well, wish your Mom a Happy Birthday from Peggy. You've got a lot planned for your Mom; that's great. My Mom would have loved it if I had done spring cleaning for her...why didn't I think of that! She doesn't want anything (to include jumping out of airplanes; she just got over a hip and knee replacement and is lucky to be walking, let alone sky diving). Hope you have a wonderful time!
