Best Workout

This year I've been on a mission to lose weight once and for all. That is the reason that I am trying to work out on a regular basis. I attend an aerobics class on Monday and Thursday that is led by a personal trainer (it really is like having a group personal training session). Then, on the off days I am going out walking as much as possible. Soon, I hope to also be able to get out my bike and start riding again. Additionally, I'm hoping to join the gym with either my mother and sister or my friends. So, I would like to know what you think is the best workout. Have you seen a lot of difference with what you've been doing? And finally, are you coming close to meeting the goals that you have set for yourself?

Good for you, dorannmwin! These days I am so too busy to fit in a real exercise routine, so my goal is to at least get a good stretching work out in. My muscles are real tight - just from holding the baby, taking the stroller in and out of the car, hunching over from nursing, etc etc . . . so I truly need to loosen up. Last week, I really took the time to stretch at night for about a half hour while everyone was sleeping . . . oh, I slept much better and felt better overall the next day. So I'm making it a point to get that stretch session in. Also, we as a family, are trying to take more walks - like before dinner. We can't wait til we can all go bike riding as a family . . . that'll be neat!

I too can't wait for the day that we will be able to go biking as a family. We are almost there, just have to wait for Paul to be ready to ride on his bike and we will be well on our way. Hubby and I both have good bikes and though Kathryn needs a bigger bike, she can ride on two wheels.

It's definitely time for you to get a real bike for your daughter. Once she gets that hang of it with the training wheels, it will be no time before she asks you to take them off.

That's great! We need to get my daughter a "real" bike - it's about time. She still has the tricycle which she loves to ride and of course at her age riding it is a breeze, so I think it'd be good for her to have a new challenge of riding the big kids bike. I know at Paul's age, he is nearly there . . . but with my son we have a few years yet.

Heck, if I were to post another picture right now, the main difference would be my hair I cut it all off again. But, I am losing weight mostly in my core area, and in my calfs. Those muscles are getting really tight. I can't wait until I reach my goal of being a size 12 or smaller.

what worked well for me too many years ago was spending a good chunk of time on an elyptical (sp?) machine. Too bad they don't have child care nor can I afford it.

I like elliptical machines because they are easy on the joints. I'm also lucky that the gyms that I am thinking about joining both have free childcare included with your membership.

Good for you! You sound like you have a great workout plan. I would love to join a gym but we never have enough money for something like that. I think that is really the best workout since there is so much variety at a gym.

I really do want to join a gym and because of where my mother works, she is able to get a companion on her membership for just 10 dollars a month. If it weren't for that then I know it wouldn't be financially feasible for me either.

i think there is only a good way of workout and that is jogging. it takes its time to result, but results are assured and lasting. i have done many kind of exercises but i feel that only jogging gives me a better result every time , so i am simply suggesting you.

I've yet to be able to take up jogging because I have a weak ankle. However, I keep looking at the couch to 5K idea and I'm just about motivated to start that.

I don't have that much time to go to the gym, or have some workout, what I do is I really drink a lot of water and fiber-rich foods to clean my digestive track. But the result for me is good, I don't know if its my metabolism or what, but I hope this could be an additional help to meet your goals.

Diet is something that is very important as well. However, I don't think that diet or exercise alone is the best method to use to achieve weight loss.

hi dorannmwin oh how I wish I could work out somehow. My left leg with its brace is the problem as its hard for me to walk very far and walking used to be the way I could lose weight. If we had a swimming pool here at Gold Crest I sure would to that. I have not been exercising as I am trying to find something I could do where I am at right now, I have been cutting back on carbs . Now I wish Ihad not let my son toss out the old exerciser bike that I had,it was still functioning but he said oh I will get you a new one. I am now wondering it there was some way I could get another one cheap and use it in my room. Maybe craigslist might have something. thats a good idea that just popped into my head. wow.

There is a fairly good chance that you would be able to find one for fairly cheap on craigslist. I have a bike upstairs in my son's room that I will use when I can get to it. Unfortunately I can't always get to it because he has too many toys.

I prefer things that are higher impact. I want to do work outs that are going to make me sweat before I'm done. I also try to build muscle. So I'll take a few group cycling classes each week, some cardio classes, some pilates classes. On days I don't have classes I'll usually run on the treadmill for an hour and do some weight lifting. Yesterday I tried a new class, called Willpower and Grace, they have a website, it's a world wide craze. Boy is it hard, I'm so sore today. I thought I was capable of doing squats all day.. that class proved me wrong!! It's great though. Am I close to my goals? Well my goals change daily. I really don't know how thin I want to be. Some days I think I'm close enough, other days I want to go another 20 lbs. It's really hard to tell with all this extra skin. I guess I will just get to a point where I'm no longer capable of dropping pounds no matter what I do.

I have a goal in mind, but I think when I hit that goal I will come up with another one. I've been a big girl for almost as long as I can remember. So, my goal now is to be smaller than I was when I started sixth grade. I started ballooning in third grade after I broke my ankle, so I would love to get down to that size (I was a 12 at that time).

That was basically my original goal too. That's where I was before I had the twins, then I got big while pregnant. I've been back in a size 12 for a few months now, but I haven't yet hit my original goal weight.. I'm still 8 pounds away from that. I'm to a point now where I'm only losing a pound a week, so it's going really slowly. I think I'd like to lose about 18 more pounds.. if not a little more.

Hey, a pound a week is better than nothing, and certainly a lot better than gaining weight. Keep up the good work.

The best I've found for fat burning is step or Tae bo. I also like Ashtanga yoga for working up a sweat and Pilates if you want really toned abs.

Well, I have a set weight loss goal, I have not checked on it in a while though. The best work out I have ever had was a 1 hour Ninjuitsu class. It was intense. Aside from that I semi regularly attend Aikido(if I lived somewhere this was offered, it would be regular), I also try to walk to and from work each day, that a good 30-50 minutes, twice a day. With Appreciation.

The walking is a great thing, I need to start doing more walking than I am doing right now, but alas, with the children in tow, it is difficult to keep up the kind of pace that is needed for a true cardio workout.

I know that I've got to watch my diet. That is perhaps the hardest part after having been addicted to junk food for such a long period of time.

Hello dorannmwin, I seldom have a heavy workout I"m just actually maintaining my weight and for me I do cardio for 25-45 minutes 3times a week,I less my intake of carb and lastly for a flat belly ever, my holla hoop that would be 35 minutes after arising and 20 minutes before bedtime. My aerobics class doesn't works well with me because I find ending up like starving myself so I quit and only my dancing lesson gets me better. Happy myLotting!

It is definitely not a good idea to starve ourselves for the sake of a healthy weight. Hulla Hoop, I could never ever do that.

hell0 doran! I think that the best work-out depends on that what are you actually want to achieve, because some people work for better legs, some other for better arms, others for tight tummy- and if you want to lose weight as whole, then i guess that you should combine all these exercises- for legs, arms, tummy and also back together and try to do them every day, at least twice- in the morning and in the evening and I guess that after 2-3 months you will see a big change with your body and hope that you will be satisfied

Even what I've been able to do to date has made a big difference in the way that my body looks. I keep hoping that I will be able to make even bigger changes over the course of time.

The best workout for me is skipping (jumping rope). I can do it for between 20 and 45 minutes now and it is great for building your stamina and improving your lung strength. At the moment I have a cold and haven't been out to run in 3 weeks but I can still skip as it is a shorter amount of time and I can do it indoors. I put some double unders in my skipping routine as they really get you gasping for breath.

If I were to try jumping rope, I think I would end up with bruises on my chest (don't think I need to go any further than that). But, you are right, it is great cardio workout.
