I've worked at places were the management don't even know you exist and at other places were everybody knows your name.
At the place I've been working now for 7 years people know who you are and every month we have a staff meeting with lots of cake & donuts and recognize employees for there good job. We have drawings for gift certificates and other little prizes which I haven't won in quite a while.
Are you appreciated at work-do you get bonuses for doing a great job?

Not at all. My company is poorly ran and I won't name it here but the management sucks. We get new managers about every year or so and it seems they've given up. We don't have Christmas parties, we rarely have potlucks. The contests earn us prizes like 1 20$ gift card for the whole building which none of us other than the main manager sees. And I've yet to hear a "good job" from my boss. In fact she doesn't even look at me or say hi unless she wants something from me.
My lower managers and supervisors do notice me tho and they do say "hey that looks great!" or "thanks for your hard work today" and that makes a difference. It makes me want to keep working my butt off. But overall employee satisfaction in my company is low and sadly it shows in our performance.

That sounds bad. It's sad when your bosses don't even acknowledge you and sometimes they don't even know your name.
I guess we all should be grateful to have jobs right now even if the work environment sucks

i guess theres still company who give credit to their employees achievement though im not that lucky from my previous employer coz all of them have crab mentality, like if someone will go to the top then they will drag them down coz all of them want to be on top. they dont give way, theres always jealousy and they are not happy to see their so employee received any merit or credit.

Missybear,
That is cool. We had a bad day yesterday. We are small comapny like at most 30 employees. The company let go 5 people because of the economy etc... so it was hard day. The other part we did not know this was going to happen. We were doing really well upto like February and then no orders now for awhile. I understand about business but it still suck for those people who were let go. It happen to me at another comapny and never good a feeeling and takes a while spring back from it.
Thanks and have a great day
Sincerely Unique16

Hi missybear. Well, I've tried so hard to be recognized but it's just disappointing. Oftentimes, your superiors would see your lapses than your achievements, I don't know about that, but that's how it felt for me. Now, I just follow my work matrix putting excellence to it and most importantly, you should work with your heart. And through your great performance, you will be recognized and it will just show.

I am not in employed status, but I've worked in a company as freelancer for two years now that composed of friendly people where the officers and the managers are approchable too. They give incentives and recognition to people who reached their quotas. But sad to say I am not one of those achiever. The good thing is the same with your experience we can avail of the drawing of certificates and other little surprises during general assembly and I'm always lucky to get some big prizes. You don't need to aim for the hall of fame award, what matter is that you've work with all your heart and honesty, and that you enjoy the fruit of your labor with dignity.

i am always recognised at work(am a doc, naa)but it does have its advantages and disadvantages, some cursing me(when things take a bad turn)(i am no god)AND SOME PRAISING ME BUT I HAVe seen that praising my junior colleagues either in work or deed always works very well for me.

Hi missybear. One always feel great when he feels appreciated. I don't feel that I am appreciated enough. I feel that I am part of the wheel, part of a system that needs a job to be done. But I don't get rewarded or receive any bonsuses if I do extra work. so that is a bit disheartening.

I've worked in a company where there's an employee of the month, best upseller of the month, etc.. But I've never won any of them. And the environment is friendly but there's this vibe that they don't really care about your accomplishments. I don't really care about it though. As long as i'm doing my job fine, it's ok with me.

Many of the firms in which we work are selfish persons. They extract lot of work but do not have a kind heart to motivate workers by encouraging them. They feel if we encourage they may not work properly. This is the notion they have in their minds.

That's sad. I think the more people appreciate your work the better you will do your job.
