Hi friends,
I´m starting to make my suitcase. Tomorrow I start my 1 week or so vacation to the south of Chile.
Yesterday I washed some knitted stuff as it´s colder there. I discovered with happiness that my blacjk jeans had not shrunk: they still fit.. I bought a lot of good things to make sandwichs for the trip. We don´t want to eat junk on the way and spend precious time trying to get out meals.
Do you make sandwichs and suff like that when you travel in your car? Do you start washing your clothes and saving them for the suitcase. Do you plan that or just do what you decide at the last minute?

gOOD FOR U. Back in the olden days, lol when i was going to auctions hunting antiques we use to go down in alabama to a big auction. I always packed food for the boys & i & a cooler full of drinks. I always had a bag of snacks also. Two hungry boys can break u on the road. . U are smart to do that & i know your food will be better than what u buy. Can i come w/u?lol

I SO wish you could come, Jo! Hot springs is doctor´s orders for joints. And I have more than enough room at the apartment where we are going. I traded my Aruba week of timeshare and they gave me amuch bigger apartment.
I´m taking chicken, sweet pepper and mayo sandwichs and ham, hearts os palm and mayo sanswichs. Drinks only if I can see how to put them in a small cooler I have. I gave the big one to my oldest daughter and she lost it so she can´t lent it to me. I wonder... How could anyone lose a giant cooler?
Take care! Be back soom.

Have you noticed that we stopped being kids shortly after we married while children now continue being toddlers after they are 40?

Austin to Houston or Dallas is a 3-4 hour trip. I've been known if I'm leaving so it crossing a meal time, to make a sandwich for the road. I'd probably have packed a soda as well.
Used to be I take chips or something to snack on, but its been over a year since my last road trip, and even then I didn't take anything but a drink with me.

I hope that you will have an excellent time in the south of Chile for your vacation. It is such a beautiful country and I will be pleased to see some of your photos when you return.
When I travel I take my backpack. I take clothes in the bottom of my backpack and have washing liquid plus an elastic washing line. Then I can wash and dry my clothes along my route. One time in Cairns, Australia, all my washing on the backpackers hostel was stolen. I had to go in the clothes I was wearing to Brisbane the next day. One of the first things I did was buy new clothes.
I usually pack my backpack a week before my travels. I add a few things to it last minute. I like to travel with a few snacks and a drink if that is allowable. Like on planes drinking water bottles don't get thorough security. I take rice cakes, fruit bars, nuts and seeds to eat on my journey. I love to take a bottle of water and some fruit juice.
Have a happy trip to the South of Chile. I look forward to hearing all about your trip. Hugs for you my dear friend.

I´m even taking instant coffee. But even if I´m taking dishwashing liquid, I won´t wash clothes on the trip. It´s just one week and there´s room in the car to take underwear for the whole week.
Take care! I hope to bring a good picture of the volcano and the lake.

most of the time that we travel or visit the province, we don't prepare foods that we can eat along the travel. it's just a two hour drive from this city. so we just have meals before the travel and if someone feels hungry on the road, we just take some snacks somewhere. we also do not prepare a lot of clothes as we also have some in the province. but traveling other than to the province, say going to other places far from this city, which needs to take a plane or ship, it will be a different story. Every few months I go to visit my Dad for an overnight stay. I agonise over what to wear because I need to look presentable and also not accentuate how big I am because Dad always comments. He sounds like I've let him down and I'm a big disappointment to him as well as not being able to control myself and so on and so on.
The trouble is, none of my clothes look any good these days. I hate to buy new ones because I'm not just a big size, I'm tall as well and tring to buy clothes that look decent and that are comfortable for a long drive is truly difficult. I've been trying to figure out what to wear for my next visit in 2 weeks time and I've been thinking on it for about 2 weeks now and making sure everything is clean and ready.

My sister and I always have little tiffs about this! She is the type of person who will pack for a three month trip of a lifetime the night before the flight whereas I start preparing my things two weeks before although at that stage my preparation consists mainly of a list of what I will need to take. My mother is the extreme of my sister, she has been known to be packed and ready a month prior to the trip but my mother is extreme about everything! I like to make sandwiches and snacks to take on long trips, it can be very handy not to mention cheaper especially with children.

I will have a month holiday soon, but I have not made my suitcase yet. the main reason is I feel tired recently. I want to cancel the trip, but it's already annouced among my friends and family. it seems no reason to cancel it. but I really don't want going on.
I just want to stay at home to have a quite life myself, but it seems a luxurious idea.
I feel very tired even to think about it. so i think i will make my suitcase at the last minute.

Hi sblossom,
I just came back from my vacation and saw your answer to the psot I made just before going. I suggest you go to the doctor for a checkup before travelling. No use having a poor time away from home if you are not feeling well.
Four years ago, I was going to Mexico with some friends. I discovered I needed surgery 3 days before traveling. The trip was postponed, I had my surgery and a good time 3 months later.
And if you only want to stay home and relax why not do it?
I hope you feel better. Take care.

Hi Marguicha,
I wish you happiness and may you travel safely. When I travel with my family I make sure we don't starve along the way, so I pack some food like sandwiches, biscuits, bread, and water and softdrinks. And yes, I do pack early and I save clothes to be used on the trip. I myself am preparing for our family vacation in Hong Kong, China in the middle of May. However, since this is an out of the country trip, I don't think sandwiches will be allowed inside the plane, so I have to forego that one.

Hi Marg,
It's a planned event. so i prepare for it. i choose the outfits appropriate for the place and all the stuff that i need. i washed them and try not to use it again while waiting for the vacation schedule.
since it will be a long drive, i also prepare snadwiches, biscuits, juices , candies and chips so that te kids and us will not be hungry. it is practical. te food along the way is expensive.

I travel every year with my online earnings. Traveling is not in my budget but I have managed to earn $100 each month online. This year travel will be nearer besause I had shoulder surgery and had extra expenses. But I will bring back pictures from a lake and a beautiful volcano nearby. And there are native forests and hotsprings! Many people come from every country to see this part of Chile. It´s awesome. I will lessen costs by cooking as we will be in an apartment with kitchen.

I used to travel with tour groups and we would have snacks along the way. We would also eat out at different places. It was the same way pretty much when I traveled with my parents. When I traveled by myself in 1999, I'm sure I had some snacks with me but I ate out at different places, too. I had money back then, lol! I would always plan ahead what I was going to take but I would do my washing the night before. Kathy.
