Have you lost your wallet before?

I lost my wallet two years ago-- I think somebody stole it... I have all my credit cards, ID and Atm in it... It was a big cost actually to me, aside from the money in my wallet that time, I needed to pay for all the replacement fee of my credit cards... Actually, I decided to close/ cancel my 2 credit cards because of that... to minimize my expenses... I just paid the balance for it is much cheaper compared to the cost of replacement... I think that was the most irritationg part... Money is hard to earn but when we lost them, we don't need to pay additional for them anymore... unlike with credit cards, we cannot just let it be because the person who took it might use it too and we need to act fast, otherwise you will be in great debt! Well the investigation takes long of time... A real headache, if happens. We need to report it ASAP and to do that replacing or cancelling the card is part of the process... Have you ever lost you wallet? And what is in there that you hated to be part of your lose?? Kindly share your experience. Did you accidentaly drop it or misplace it or did someone steal it from you???

In the past three years, I lost my wallet two times. Both inside the house - different houses though. The first time was when we got burgled in England. I left my wallet in the lounge one night and that night happened to be the night the burglar decided to pay us a visit. No cash in it though, may be £5. But the credit cards, debit cards and the driving license - cancelling them and ordering for a new one...unnecessary headache that I could do without. The second time was in our house in India. I was and still am pretty sure that someone nicked it. No proof and no real suspect as there were a lot of people moving in and out that day. More cash in there that time and again credit cards and debit cards and such.

Hi zralte! Oh is this your first post? I see that number 1 beside your name, am I the lucky first mylotter you responded? Your experience is really bad and saddening but I am happy to hear from you zralte! Well the money is actually our first concern but after the incident sink in to us, we would realize that those important docs, ids and credit cards are more important because it is more hassle to do those reporting and requesting for replacements... thank you so much for sharing your bad experience with us. Let us just be careful next time and always put oour wallet near us as much as possible... or hide it somewhere in our house that is unnoticeable... Like nobody would think that you are actually putting wallet there...

Yes that is true, cards are more convinient to use... What? just swipe and sign... No need to count the change or wait for the cashier to look for a change if she or he lacks coins or small bills for you... We just have to really take care of it.

Yep, a real newbie here. Agree with you there regarding the money. But in this days and age, we don't really carry much cash with us generally, but the cards.....always the cards.

That is really horrible. Well, it wasn't really a wallet that I lost (I am not fond of wallets and the only thing that I put in them are money and pictures LOL, as I have no credit card of sorts), but a purse. We were having our educational field trip and on my way home, I stopped by a store to buy something until I realized that I lost it. It only contained P100 and some horse hair that I got from the horses I rode as a souvenir. I secretly cried a lot back home because of the hair. That was the thing that made the loss even more painful. It was very valuable to me that I was hurt that bad. I think I lost in the bus, maybe it dropped from my backpack when I was taking something out.

Well definitely those hair horse is more better than those that can be found and bought in the souvenir store... Too bad you lost it. I will probably do that too . I like your idea really mjcookie!

Hi mjcookie! So you cut and took hair from that poor horse huh! Well that is actually a great and unique souvenir, I never think of that... Nice idea, instead of buying common items from souvenir store, why not those hair... it is free and very unique! Yha, I would definitely feel very upset too...

I didn't cut it with a pair of scissors, hahaha. I combed his hair with my hand and slipped the strands in my purse lol. I disdn't have much pocket money that time that was why I couldn't buy souvenirs from stores there.

not yet, but if you talk of cellphone instead of wallet i have looses four times already and this cellphone which i have on hand is my fifth cellphone. It was my sister who experience of loosing wallet. To lost a wallet is one of those horrible thing that ever happen to her, why? because everything like important paper was there. The money is less important but the documents in school are of my much important., imagine loosing those thing will be a need for you to request a lost for affidavit. your time, money and effort will be wasted again.

That is exactly my point too... Why not just get the money and send back the wallet to the owner along with the ids and othe important docs too... Well, they can pretend that they just saw the wallet on the floor or something if they are really a pickpocketer... Why not be good somehow? I am sure they know that those are valuable to us... and those mean nothing to them... Actually they just threw the entire wallet usually after getting the money...

Well yes very upsetting but we cannot do anything about it anymore... It is gone. We just need to be more cautious and careful next time. Well now, people are not bringing big money anymore because cards are already born... But those cards when lost are a real headache and hassle!

Hello pumared! Allow me to welcome you to mylot! So how was your first few days experience here? Well those age-- 12, 13,14, 15... we are more reckless and careless with our things... Well it is really annoying, for we are expecting to have a new dress, shirt, jeans, accesories but end up with none at all because we have lost our wallet! - NO more money to buy those things and worst ven money for the tranportation fare going home... That was really an awful experience! Disappointing!

I thought I lost my wallet one time. I put my wallet on the top of the cab of the pickup and forgot it was there. By the time I got to a gas station, I forgot it was there and I thought I lost it. In the meantime, I cancelled the card. Then my boyfriend noticed it up on the cab. So, I was So out of luck until I got my new card. But, it made me very aware of where that wallet was from now on.

OH Steinway, I glad to hear that you did not really lost your wallet, however, it is such a waste of money for you needed to pay for the replacement fee of your credit card when in fact, it was just there... Yeah! You need to use all cash for payment for the meantime while waiting for your new card... Too bad, once you declared it lose to the credit card company, you can no longer, reverse it once they had disactivated your previous card... That is the same reason why I let a day passed first before I formally requested for that. I check amd make sure first if it was not in the house really... coz sometimes I am misplace lady!

I once lost wallet and fortunately it was returned to me.. . I also found a wallet before which was filled with money. .. I returned it . . .

well your wallet was returned to you because you did the right thing to do with the wallet you got before too. I am sure God spoke to the person who got your wallet, which was the reason he gave it back to you. Surely, there are still honest people around. Before I lost my wallet too and received a call from somebody. He actually called to my office, unfortunately I was out on a meeting that time. He called twice but I was not yet in so he just left a message. My mom and my husband were the ones who pick up the wallet in his house coz that time I was also pregnant and was really always tired from my work... He did not leave his landline number, just his address so I wasn't able to talk to him and thank him personally. He asked some proof from my husband and mom before he released my wallet to them... Well anyways, I have pictures there too and he saw that they are there too in my wallet. But I also did give my mom some proofs too just in case, he asked...

I have experience having lost my wallet before. Good thing I was still in college at that time and have no important documents, identification cards, credit cards. The only thing important was my school Id. The money was an allowance and good thing it was a Friday. My allowance is given for a week. So what was left was for the Friday expenses. Well, I was able to secure a school ID a week after.

hi jpso138! So where did you get money for that whole day? Did it happen before your classes started or after the school hours? So how did you go home? EWhat about the transportation fare, where did you get it? Did you borrow money to your friend for the meantime?

Wow that is a lot of money pratheep87! If I will convert that in Philippine pesos, I can buy lots! That was surely a REAL terrible experience! Aside from the hassle of processing your lost ids... You said you were traveling? Is it for liesure? Oh I don't think you have enjoyed your vacation after learning that you have lost your wallet. What a bad experience, that would definitely spoiled a good vacation!

• Philippines

Hello piya84! When did you lost your wallet? Did you find it already in your house? How many cards do you have there in your wallet? Well I gues, now a day, banks are more strict. They require at least two or three valid Identification card with picture... Banks become more strict because many are openng dummy or fake bank account. I hope your wallet is just there in your house. May be you just misplaced it. Thank you for sharing your experience piya84!

hi lovelyn, once i lost my wallet, a pickpocket stole my wallet when i was in a city bus in our city. i had a few rupees there and nothing else. it was about 10 years ago and that time i had no income sources and i was totally dependable on my father. so money played a vital role at that time when i had a economical crisis. i never keep any important documents or cards like atm, credit or something in wallet and i never suggest anybody to keep it. have a nice day.
• Philippines
23 Apr 10
Oh shibham! How are you doing? Yes I guess, I think I should buy a separate card holder. I always bring my card with me because I am more comfortable of paying using my credit cards. I would buy one of this days, in that case when that happened again( knock on wood) I will not lose them all at the same time. It is nice to hear from you again shibham!

Oh you are very lucky! It is good that the one who got your wallet is an honest person. Well, as we all know some would be tempted and have interest on getting it for themselves. Just be careful always, if it happens again, we never know if you will be lucky again the next time around.

I know it is quite troublesome to lose a wallet. I haven't lost a wallet before. However, my wallet was stolen when I was a student. At that time I was waiting for a bus. It was so bad to lose a wallet because I had money inside. It meant a lot for a student. Fortunately at that time I didn't have any cards yet. After that, I told myself to be much more careful when I was outside. I won't let the same thing happen to me again. I love China

Hi youless! Yes after experiencing that, we became more careful and alert especially if we are in a crowded place. Sometimes I became paranoid too, looking left and right while putting my shoulder bag in from of me especially when I saw some suspicious looking person or people... Well I hope that wont happen again to us and to anybody. Have a wonderful weekend! Enjoy!

yes lyn, it gives us a lot of trouble when we lose our wallet. from reporting the matter to the police, to prepare the necessary requirements in applying for the replacements of cards, id cards, atm cards, and the application proper for the replacement. and it will also take time to get the lost cards replaced. i also lost my wallet many years ago. it slipped from my short pant's pocket while riding the passenger tricycle. it had a little cash, but the driver's license was the most important thing that i lost with the wallet. Especially with atms neildc. Aside from going to the bank for filing of card lost report, we need to have it notarize too, which is again, very hassle... We need to go to notary public then go back to the bank for proper submission and payment for the atm card replacement. Oh that sucks!

Yes!! Couple of months ago I lost my purse while traveling a a public bus..It was stolen probably, but I never found it anywhere near the place where I was sitting. Yes!! I had a quiet tough time as I had to report about it to a nearby local police station immediately.. I lost my cell phone,my phone book as well as some cosmetics, some money and ATM card as well as my office ID card.
• Philippines
23 Apr 10
Well those pickpocketers strike most of the time on crowded places, public utility vehicles like buses, jeeps, crowded malls or tiange especially when people are busy on something like there are on sale going on or you were busy reading or talking to somebody else... They strike and do their dirty job. Their hands are fast and they move very light that we can hardly feel their hands are inside our bags already or they have slashed it already. Sometimes they work with partner, the other one will distract your attention while the other do the stealing of your wallet or cell phone... Reporting the incident to the police is the right thing you did. On that way, authorities would increase their alert level at that area... Nice to hear from you tuyakiki! See you around!
