How do you define home?

In this day and time of continuing change, many people find themselves moving a great deal, and constantly having to try to make one more place feel "like home." Yet, isn't home a quality that we bring to a place? Some people seem to feel at home anywhere while others continue to long for something that is past. Is home a physical place or is it something that can we take it with us wherever we go?

...is where i can be at home, do some crazy stuffs and let my hair down, play in the rain, plant flowers and vegetables, watch my children grow, safe, secure, friendly... Home, it's not just a dream in my mind, it's a real place I make it to be. Truly, home it's where the heart is!

hell0 Pose! long time no see! well, for me home is where my family is. or at least I think so, because after I moved up to another city, away from my family, I realized that i also call the place where I live now "home" no matter that my family doesn't live here, well only my cousin, but... I am really entangled, because I thought "home" is the place where I grew up and now I call this new place "my home"- it is really strange to me!

Hi phoenix, Thank you for sharing your thoughts on this. For many people home is associated with family, others who move a lot can more easily adjust to new surroundings. I understand how you feel, I felt like that when I first moved away from where I'd grown up. Blessings

I think people do make a home and not the building itself. I have experienced this sine we moved into a bigger house five years ago. My son was attached with our previous home. It was small but we had everything we need. He kept mentioning it up to some time ago. I do believe that life is what you make it, and home can be everywhere when you are surrounded by love and care.

Hi ronald, Thank you for sharing and I agree. A building is not a home, it a place where we feel content and loved. Blessings.

No I don't think you can take it with you where ever you go. See i came to Ohio through Hurricane Katrina, we was placed in an apartment by houssing in this area. Ok so we got an apartment. Few pieces of furniture to start off with, it was just a place, to get in out of the rain, it wasnt' home. Home was gone. My daughter kept after me to go shop for pictures for the walls, and other things she said the place needed. I didn't want to. For what something to come along and take it. So we lived there with the bare necessites that we had to have. just surviving I guess. But it was not home to me. One morning I got up and came out and looked around, I don't know why this was any different than any other morning. But the walls was bare and nothing in the center of the dining room table, no fancy comforter on the bed, it was just a dull place. I called my daughter said let's go shopping, I filled the walls with pictures and a nice arrangement for the center of the table, a pretty comforter. Some flowers. As I looked around when I was done I said, now this is home. They say home is where you hang your hat. But you have to make it a home. To fill it with things that make you feel happy when you look around. Other than that it is just a shell, home is that nice feeling that you get when you step inside. The feeling of being safe and comfortable. So you can have a shell or you can fill it full of love and pretty things. But for me you have to make it just that a home.

We don't need to live in an expensive house in order to have a wonderful home. Home is where we can relax and enjoy family time. In other words, home sweet home is always associated with family and plenty of love.

I agree with you..sometimes a big luxurious house isn't called as a home for the members of the family...:D i'd rather to choose a small house with love than a big house without love..

A Home is what you make of it My Ex Husband used to be in the Army, we moved 12 times in 18 years, it was hard specially with the Children, but the Houses we used to be accommodated with I used to turn into Homes by personal touches and Items I feel at home as long as I have all my things surrounding me and the Place is decent, I always make it mine by turning it into my Home

Home is a place where people who are bound together in a relationship, stays. It is a museum of memories, it is a shelter and an economic unit. I still strongly agree to the old saying that "there's no place like home". Home can take us anywhere , only to go back safely to it's arm.

Home is not only a physical place for me. I take home as a shelter in our heart forever with our family members and loved ones. Home is a place for us to share happiness as well as unhappy matters. Home will be a place where we go to no matter how we will be become in future. Home is lovely, fills with care and love. Perhaps home is parents' love to us, and eternal bond with family.

This may sound funny or old fashioned but home is really where your heart is. It can be a place, a room, a school, a job, or even a person.

Hi savypat, thanks for sharing and the saying may be old but I think it's very true. My heart is where I've lived for over thirty years now but I moved quite a few times before that. Blessings.

Home is something that we can't take with us nor a fixed place. It's a place that we can feel comfortable and accepted as we stay in. It can be anywhere. Sometimes, whenever i'm home and there's no one around, i can't feel any warmth and comfort but whenever my family or friends are around, i feel accepted.

"there's no place like home" this is a common saying from us., but your right people they come and go to other places yet they still comeback where they belong, their home., home where a family leave together, sharing their love, care and comfort to each other.,this can be called home because this place will we start to become as what we are now., this place where we start to develop our ability our behavior, our talent guided by our parents., this is a place where our parents mold us to become a better person, practices us how to become mature and stand to our own, and preparing to build our own home soon.,

"no place like home" though you choose any place you wanted, home is still the best place of all. this is the most sacred place of our life because this is the place which accommodate us on how we learn a lot things in this world , we learn to talk,to walk, & etc.this is the place where you do anything you wanted.
