Who is your favorite author and book and why? I love James Patterson books especially the Alex Cross Series. My favorite of James Patterson is When the wind blows. Its about a girl who is half human and half bird. It is so good I recommend it highly. When I start one of his books I can't put them down. I also like Danielle Steel books but I liked them more when I was younger. I love reading a book where you can't put it down. Those are the best.

A Romanian writer, Panait Istrati. He had this amazing life, with adventures and lots of traveling and you can feel this experience in his books. My favorite book from him is called "Culinii Braganului" and it's about two kids who run away from home following spiked-dry bushes (the only translation I could think for ciulini) across the Baragan fields. It's an amazing adventure book and it reflects the Romanian society of 1907 from a child's perspective.

I could only find an English title for the book I mentioned: "The thistles of Baragan". But I do know of an English translation for another one of his novels: Kyra Kyralina (translated by James Whitall) and you can find that one on ebay or amazon.
It's about a boy trying to find his big sister who had been kidnapped by the Turks and sold as a slave. It depicts the 19 century orientals to be far worse that today's "body" traffic...

One of the things I like about his books is that he has studies the land and the history of what he writes about. You get a feeling that you are there. When he develops a character he expands him/her with each book or story. You feel that you know the persona and can predict how they will react in certain situations. He makes you feel the story.

I read the Lord of the Rings just once and I think Tolkien is just too much for me, there were so many names and it was hard keeping track of everything. I'll try tolkien someday again, I hope soon, maybe I read The Hobbit wich I think is a much easier book.

Oh yes I forgot about Jackie Collins, Dean Koontz and Nicholas Sparks. Nicholas Sparks books are so loving and usually makes me cry. What type of books are written by Christopher Pike?

only one?
I love Anne MacCaffrey's Dragon books, and "Ship" books.
I love Mercedes Lackey's Valdamar books.
I love most anything by Orson Scott Card - well, not Hart's Hope and have had trouble reading some of them. But his Ender's Game and the Shadow books have been really great reads. I also like his Alvin Maker books, a great "alternate" view of things
Lets see... Robert J. Sawyer, he wrote the novel they are taking the TV show Flash Forward from, and his Hominid, Human, Hybrid trilogy is AWESOME!
I've just started reading Julie E. Czerneda, I'm working on her 3rd book and she's really got a knack for creating interesting aliens.

There are a variety of authors and of books that I like. By saying this, I mean that I honestly can't name just one that is my favorite. I really like all of Luanne Rice's books because of the fact that her stories draw me in and won't let me out until the book is over and even then I find myself yearning for more. I also like Michael Palmer because the books are so well written. I really can't just choose one favorite.

I like Peter Drucker and all his books. These are non-fiction, of course.
For fiction, I like James Clavell, author of Noble House, Taipan, Shogun, etc. And Erich Segal, author of Love Story, Class, Doctors. For classical works, I like Jack London, author of Call of the Wild and White Fang.
For books about war, I like John Keegan, author of The Face of Battle.

I love James Patterson, the first book I read of his was an Alex Cross one, and it got me hooked. Before that I only really read true stories, I like a lot of Torey Hayden books as well, really moving books. If you enjoy James Patterson then you would probably enjoy Lee Child as well, Im in the middle of reading one right now, he does a series about a character called Jack Reacher, he's really good, Ive read a few of them, Im currently on the first in the Jack Reacher series but it doesnt matter if you read them out of order.

My favorite author is Isaac Asimov. He has so many great books and short stories. The Foundation series is the one I've enjoyed most. One short story I like is "The Immortal Bard", it's about a scientist and a profesor of literature, time traveling and shakespeare, you all can read it from this page: http://www.angelfire.com/weird/ektomage/otherwriting/bard.html

Asimov doesn't have much time traveling stories, but the ones he wrote are awesome. Another good that you might enjoy is "The Ugly Little Boy" wich is a story about a group that brings from the past a cro-magnon kid and it relates a little about the life of that kid in our time. It's really a good story.

My favorite series of books was a Christian Romance called Brides of Montclaire series by Jane Peart. They were a series of 15/16 books, depending on how you bought two of them. They started in Colonial Virginia and worked to present day.

I really don't have a favorite author, there are so many good ones. I did recently read a good book by Kay Arthur called "Israel My Beloved" and I thought her creativity in Israel's relationship with God was entertaining..

I just love Dan brown's books. I also like Robert Ludlum. They both will keep you thinking and I just love mysteries even in films, I prefer those that leave you hanging every turn of events. A great complement after those two would be Paolo Coelho's simple writing style. If I'd have access in the future I would love to read Ann Rice's novels too or maybe the complete Sherlock Holmes series. I would have liked John Grisham's too but the problem is I'm from a country that doesn't practice "the jury system" in courts. When he writes something, involving each jury's stories is quite the most interesting parts for me. so it frustrates me that we don't have those jury.^_^

I love the original V.C Andrews. I could not put her books down. The ghost writer has a lot to be desired. There is also the Anne Rice series about the Mayfair witches that kept me captivated. I like James Patterson too. I think he wrote Black Lightening. It was an awesome book.
