Will going back to school help you find a job?

I have been thinking of going back to school lately, thinking that maybe it will help me find a really cool job, because the one I had before was not really using my skills and talents to the fullest. So my neighbor is going back to school to study to be a dental hygenist and it really is only going to require her to have a 2 year degree, which is not bad, plus the starting pay is around 38 dollars an hour. So if I do decide to go back to school it will depend on what subject I choose to study, I like computers so maybe computer information systems will be good.
Let me know what you think about using vocational schools for getting a better job. Thanks

If you could afford it why not? Going back to school would polish the skills you have, would sharpen your mind and would make you more equipped with better job prospects and promotions. Learning a new skill in a vocational institute would be desirable, would be a welcome change as long as the skills are needed. So it would not be too difficult for you to get a job when you graduate later. The experience you have gone through while working should make learning easier to relate to. It's always worth to give it a chance!

Nope, i feel studies has nothing to do with a job. Job is completely different criteria, a graduation can help for a job, but finding better or cool job will not be obtained going back to school.

That's exactly why I started college this year. I worked for 2 1/2 years at a pet hotel...and while I love animals, I knew I didn't want to work there my whole life.
So after considering what kind of job I want, I went back to school to major in social work (I want to help children).
*I'm also going to be taking some business classes so I might be able to open my own animal sanctuary one day.

Hi marketresearch,
A couple of points. Generally I think that if you improve your educational level then you improve your choices in life. That's certainly a good thing.
However, some areas of employment are saturated. I did a HNC in Computing. At the beggining of the course the tutors told me I would have no problem getting a jog. At the end of the course they were saying that the market was flooded. Their jobs depend on getting people to study their subject. Try finding out the real job prospects before making a decision.
Secondly, we are in a terrible recession. Getting an education will not increase the number of jobs. It's tough out there - but it's not impossible.
I would recomment getting an education. Take a subject you enjoy.Try to choose an area of work where there are jobs.
Good luck.

Well, maybe it will or maybe it won't. It all depends on the school that you go to and your major. If you are in a major that is in high demand and you go to a school that is considered one of the best in the country, then you have an advantage over many people.
