As a recent college graduate, i just spent my first year in sales, and was pretty successful, third out of 12 in total volume. I was recently let go, not due to performance, but because it was felt I was not yelling on the phone and not being overly aggressive with my sales approach. I am a result driven person, and as i did out sell others, did nor understand why I would adapt to a different selling style. I am thinking of pursuing a career in a different field and hoping to get some ideas as to different entry-level positions. Thanks to all I appreciate your feedback.

The right carrer is that one that makes you feel happy and successful. Of course, you have to adapt to your own style your work, turning it unique! If the company you were in doesn't appreciate that, it is a good thing that you left the job. Just pay attention to the productivity matter... you need to work your way, but you need to be productive to the company, or else, there is no interest for them to keep you working for them.
God luck with a new job!!

Hi,
It is crazy that they let you go especially as you were one of the top performers.
I beleive that there is more than one way to skin a cat especially in the sales
industry. What works for one person doesn't always work for another. You should
always do what works for you as long as it is ethical and gets results. Times are
hard right now but smart companies always need good salespeople.

If you feel as if you're able to sell anything with what you do, I wouldn't change your career. Instead, if you have a creative enough mind to fill some niche in the world, you can probably use your selling skills to start your own business and not be so tied up with upper management and politics.

If a person knows to sell things then it wont be a problem for him to choose a sales as a career path. So a person who is well enough to sell his products can live a peacefull life provided he knows the selling technique.

Hi tmarra,
Whatever was the company thinking of? You were one of the best and they let you go? Well, that's their loss.
You have to decide whether or not you want to continue with the sales. One bad experience doesn't mean you're not cut out to sell. It seems to me that a company who expects to sell with agressive tactics has no idea about what a customer wants.
You are a graduate. You have sales experience. You are good at selling. There is a great deal of money to be made from sales. Find a product and start up on your own. Get inside the head of the customer and sell to them on their terms.
You come across as an intelligent and capable writer. Sell on the net?
