How do you feel about Filipinos going abroad?

I have great admiration for our OFW's who work hard abroad, away from their families.. If only there are enough jobs with good, competitive salaries here in the Philippines, I believe these people won't leave. I know how hard it is to be away from family because I have also stayed away from them before. Many times, I feel depressed. Filipinos are almost all over the world. lol. That's how Filipinos are good and skillful. Sooner, I think I will have to go abroad too. As a Nurse, I know I don't have a good future here in the Philippines. :(

Well, there are filipinos in my current and in my previous country too, and I'm glad to see that they're doing well. Sometimes the economy situation of your country makes you take a difficult decision, but as long as you can do it well in the end, even if it's somewhere else, I think that it's a great thing.

It is little sad. Exactly, some of my friends, classmates are on abroad, they are in Singspore, Australia, middleast etc. I also want to go abroad for business. In everywhere, we should work hard for our living, and then we will back home when we get what we need. Anyway, Good luck for you.

I love meeting all the filipinos that come to Canada to work. I have never met one I did not like, and all are hard working and industrious. And the first snow ball fight is always a blast. With Appreciation.

I think many Filipinos who go abroad to work don't really want to go, but because our country cannot provide enough jobs and many don't give good compensation, it's way easier to work abroad and save money. My boyfriend is a nurse too, so he might work abroad and take me with him, but we don't want to stay in another country for a long time. I don't really want to go, so I'm doing all I can to save enough money here.

I guess it's their choice and whatever their reason is, it's for the benefit of their families or loved ones, for the future. If we can't find an opportunities that fits us it's alternative to go abroad and earn a better money. So let's be proud of them because they also help our country through dollars exchange.

Hi...Of course leaving one's family is such a sorrowful scenario but if going abroad will be the only means to a better life, then so be it...If only jobs with very competitive compensation are found in our country, not a single Filipino would want to be separated from their families...Going abroad may be sad but on the other hand, a heroic deed.

my father has been working abroad since i was in grade school (i'm already 27). so our life had been supported practically by remittances. my father wanted that. i'm not really sure if it's because of lack of opportunities or if it was his dream. he've told my mother about a migration plan. he has not discussed it to the whole family yet. he's probably thinking, my brothers, sisters and I would all be against it. i can't say anything bad about my father's decision, or any other filipinos, in working there BUT for me, especially with regards to our professionals like yourself (yeah more especially because you're a HEALTH WORKER), one of the reasons why our country can't keep up with other neighboring nations is because our most needed workforce are going abroad. the country's sick and we all know that. there are millions of people here who have no access to health assistance so if there's a country that would be most needing of nurses/doctors/caregivers, it is our country. considering the number of unhealthy filipinos, you CAN'T say there is no work here. ONLY THAT, there's no money here.

i am proud of them because they sacrifice their life here together with their family just to help their family. if only there are enough jobs here then no one will go abroad just to work.

Yes, Filipinos are very hardworking people, it's just sad that wherever we go, we still have to work hard. It's a sacrifice mainly for our families. Me too, I want to go abroad, but not to work only to have a vacation. But if one day I'll have to sacrifice for my family, I'll do it too.

Hi. We have the same belief. I also think that I have no future here in the Philippines of landing a good job - one that has a competitive salary. I sound and feel negative but I think that there are also a lot of Filipinos who think and feel this way. If they feel otherwise, then they won't bother working abroad, right? As much as possible I don't like to think that it's the government's fault, because we, people, are also factors for this 'phenomenon'. I just hope one day I'll be able to find work abroad, and that I'd be able to bring my family there also.

Well I feel unhappy, cause our best doctors, nurses, teachers and a like will be using their abilities abroad and not here in our country...its a sacrifice they have to make plus the families that they will be separated for years ...If only we have lots of opurtunities here in our country they will not think of leaving our country.

Well what more can I say. You hit it bullseye. If we stay here then our future is dim unless you're the daughter/son of a rich somebody.

SAD. I am a civil engineer and I had been assigned abroad, but now, I decided to stay in my province and offer my services here. I feel that I will accomplish more if I stay here. My boyfriend who is also a civil engineer had ever since decided to stay in the Philippines and it was actually him who influenced me not to pursue my plan of going overseas. And I think we are equipped with skills that will enable us to make it big and be successful here. It will definitely require more effort than those who work overseas but I see that as a challenge. You see, most Filipinos aspire to work abroad. But if everybody (especially professionals) work overseas, who will be left to serve our country? I salute the OFWs. My father was also a seaman, but I believe everyone has that choice to either leave this country or stay. As for me, I chose to stay.

A little bit sad. But I don't blame them coz they are too practical to find better opportunity just for the sake of their family.
