Beef replacements for the burger

I know with some of the hard core burger lovers I am going to tick them off with this question but I am very curious as to what people replace beef burgers with, and if it is a regional thing? Here the stores of coarse all push the turkey burgers but most household in our area have hunters in them so venison is almost always what beef is replaced with. We also have several buffalo farms and I have to admit this is my favorite substitute for the beef in a burger. What are other replacements and that includes if you have seen something really weird out there.

My sister used to eat only soy burgers. I tried one once before and those things were gross. But I guess anything that can be ground can be made into a burger. Just not sure that I would want to eat it.

I buy and eat turkey burger cuz they are so much cheaper than the beef burger. They have less fat as well.

wow really, in our area turkey is the fad so it is much more expensive by almost double to purchase over the beef.

Here it depends on what type of turkey burger you purchase. The more fat, the less cost.

Buffalo burgers are good, but I haven't had one in decades. I think I only had it one time on vacation, but the memory certainly is tasty! Have you ever had an ostrich burger? SO GOOD! I was at a restaurant, and trying to find something that was low fat, but I didn't want to just get a salad. I saw an ostrich burger on the menu, and it was 98% fat free. So I tried it, and it was so good. I didn't even miss beef. And it was much better than a turkey burger.

I have not had the pleasure of trying an ostrich burger or any of that type of meat. Is it very expensive?

No, not at all. If I recall it was a little over three dollars. And it came with a side order of I think was fries, so the burger itself was cheaper.

hi opinionatedlady I have used soy crumbles with flavoring and onions and they make a really tasty burger, not like the other soy products, you must use soy crumbles they taste like beed and have the same texture, I have also used ground chicken and my favorite canned salmon burger patties with the proper seasonings ground chicken is really good combined with real sharp cheddar cheese, not cheese food as that is gross but real cheese. also fresh salmon cooked and made into patties is delicious too.Why not just have the best thing going real grilled cheese sandwiches withouit the beef at all. none of the stuff I have seen or used is really weird just things I Like if I have to replace good lean hamburger.

I do like tuna steaks cooked up as burgers but we do not eat much fish as my hubby is highly allergic. The kids and I tend to eat our seafood whenever he's not around at restaurants as I am too wary to cook it at home. I am wondering do you use just canned salmon or smoked?

yes, buffalo is great! It really depends on where you go for the burger as to whether it is any good or not. I don't like McDonald's. Certain ones are good and some are awful. I remember when a chum and I tried to be healthy and tried to grill outdoors some turkey burgers. It was a horrible experience. The turkey stuck to the grill and was a awful mess.

I love a good beef patty (just made burgers two nights ago, in fact!), but I'll happily eat a turkey burger even though it does taste quite different. As for non-meat burgers, the very best I've had replaces the patty with a big, succulent portabella mushroom. For anyone who has meat cravings but is trying to stay away from meat in their diet, mushrooms work really well as a substitute that still has enough body, flavor, and texture. I don't avoid meat myself, but if I had to decide between a beef patty and a portabella mushroom, it would be a tough choice!

Oh, I've heard of buffalo burgers. We don't have any where I live, but I'd love to try one. I've had mushroom and soy burgers before. Some can be very disgusting; the texture does not even come close to beef. However, I had a great mushroom burger once. You can kind of tell that it isn't beef, but its texture is very similar. It also tastes similar, so it was pretty great to eat. I've also seen this great hamburger place in Las Vegas where they make all sorts of hamburgers with a mixture of all types of combination of meats and vegetables.
