If you publish an article in your site, blog or any other places, you need one or more backlinks for that article so that your article gets exposure in terms of search results and therefore in traffic too. You can also insert links in your article if you intend to provide some additional source of information. But if your articles gets links from some other sources, then they are counted as votes. And that's why those links are called backlinks (meaning links back to your site). I suggest you to note down the URL of your page (article).
