I wonder if Iceland should have to pay the airlines that couldnt fly due to ash. Every body wants payment for damages for everything. Everybody is suing everybody. So why not sue Iceland?

With tongue planted firmly in cheek...of course. I also think Iceland should counter sue the airlines for not flying in the tourists to see this natural wonder. I'm sure Iceland lost billions because the airlines wouldn't fly.

I think Mother Earth should pay and since we owe her so much for the damage we do, I think we can put this debit as a small credit against the hugh debt Humans owe Earth.

Wonderful comments savypat! The Mother Earth is the biggest creditor of humans and the volcano eruption is just her small temper.

no,the states should sue BP. i'd bet a lot of people have lost their livelyhoods for years with the amount going in the water.

logically, no. it is clearly indicated who is responsible and it is not iceland - volcanoes, earthquakes, tidal waves etc are all defined as 'acts of god'. good luck with that suit...

I find logic highly over rated. Right up there with facts and such. Thank you for the wishes. Just glad it is over now.

exactly, for example we never use logic here at the daily drivel. the daily drivel says: 'logic is for logs'. anyway happy birthday and i hope you are not getting worn out

Because they're broke. Financial crisis, banks lending 9 times the GNP, England and Holland threatening to sue to get the money back, etc. Ring a bell? So unless you want to be paid in ash it's really no point.

I guessed that, but didn't really manage to write my answer so that it got across. Really honestly, I don't think you're that daft :-) Now, I can blame it on English not being my first language ... Maybe we should both blame it on our lack of emoticons? Not a single smiley! Shocking. One should always include at least one smiley ;-) Possibly a heap of them. And as mylot is EVIL and don't let me add more than 3 off the MyLotCode Emotes, I'll put in a :)~ aimed at them. 8)=

I cant stand everyone complaining and threatening to sue, your right, everyone is suing everyone else, but I dont think you can blame iceland for the volcanoe, what were they meant to do? I know people were stuck in other countries, and people couldnt get to work, as far as Im concerned as long as everyone had a place to sleep then they should have been thankful. Theres a lot worse things that can happen to you other than being stuck somewhere else.

This is certainly a novel idea but far from realistic. It would be an acceptable argument if Iceland had created the volcanoes, although we can hardly hold them responsible simply because they live near to an eruption. This is not the result of a man made scenario but a natural geological event.

That wasan act of nature. If the volcano was in Poland it would have caused the same problems. Also, there's no was Iceland can pay because right now their ecconomy makes the USA look dang good.

I hope this is a joke. This is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard of. You can't blame a country for a volcano erupting. It's called an act of God and they are not responsible. I agree that society is becoming overly litigious, but if someone is actually talking about suing Iceland because of a volcano, I truly am about ready to hand in my human card.

That's a good idea. I think iceland should also pay me for having to watch news footage of their ash problem over and over again. I think it caused eye strain...and headaches, definitely headaches.

It's hardly their fault! I think it has done the Earth a favour by having a few days less pollution being made. I think you should only sue people if you have suffered because of something preventable, which this wasn't.

There wouldn't be much point as they don't have any money - their economy collapsed last year. I don't think you can sue for what nature is doing, perhaps the money could be better spent on re-valuating why we have come to rely on that one method of transport so much. I know it would do the UK economy some good not to rely so much on imports and we could probably cancel things like food imports by air - and stuff like flowers that we don't NEED and be more self-sufficient as a nation.

. . . and how would you argue why Iceland should pay. Iceland can simply reply we ain't stopping you go ahead and fly. If there was even a slight case to sue Iceland then it would simply open up flood gates for all kinds of suits, a never ending cycle.

You are kidding right? I know that airlines would like to recoup some of their losses, but anyone not having flight insurance would be out that money, and the airlines would have lost nothing wouldn't they? But now that you mention it, I wonder if there is some way to make Iceland pay? Hahahahahaha
