this goes to all my fellow filipinos and rice lover alike....
it's high time for us filipinos and rice lover to go back to old process rather that new technologies, our ancestors used to eat unpolished rice or organic rice wayback 1950's - 1980's, then came the machine (raise of the machine ), the culprit of taking away almost all the nutrients form the rice grains, the objective of the machine is to remove the rice germ and rice bran, literally stripping off B-vitamins, iron, manganese, magnesium and selenium, majority of this rice miller decided to make grain much whiter by polishing to catch consumers eyes (hhmmm! no wonder why rice miller is getting richer) and eventually we fall inlove to it's whiteness and aroma not knowing that this super white rice is much of carbohydrates/glucose, that causes obesity and making rice lover susceptible to diabities, that is the big answer to the big question; WHY DO WE HAVE SO MANY DIABETIC HERE IN THE PHILIPPINES?
healthy benefit of organic rice (black/purple/red/brown rice):
good for pregnant women
good for diabetic people
good for overweight or obese people
good for people into fitness or lossing weight/fat
good for people with ulcer and diarrhea
good for people with high heart problems

I prefer red rice. It has a better taste than white rice. I only use white rice for sushi and such.

hi bart,
well right now, im started to use brown rice instead of white, although its not as pleasant looking as the white one still i find it more good tasting. haha i don't know but after i have tasted the brown rice, i find the white not that nice anymore although i still cook white rice sometimes specially when im rushing.
organic rice is sure have lots of health benefits and i can attest to that coz i noticed that when we start consuming brown rice our digestion becomes better, yeah it has a better feel in the stomach. but just that it takes more time of cooking and a bit more expensive than the white rice.
another alternative for these is the rice corn? i don't know if that's how it called but its also healthy, but i just can't eat them coz my stomach refuse to. lol!

Hey Bart. Unfortunately Diabetes is a problem all over the world. The reason it seems more prevalent in your country is just as you said. Your people have used the land to provide their meals. Now that they are becoming influence by modern, commercial foods, they are being introduced to additives, preservatives, and sugars. You have the right idea. Going back to the old ways is probably the best idea for everyone. Unfortunately we tend to like to take the easy way out and be able to eat prepackaged foods is a blessing to people that have alot of children, work a few jobs, or that are just plain busy. Nutrition specialists, doctors, anyone really needs to learn to cook healthy. At least make sure everyone diagnosed with diabetes is well educated on the do's and dont's. They need to follow them to the letter. Happy MyLotting dl

It's hard to cook but nevertheless it's good. In our area unpolished rice costs more compared to polished rice. If I were to choose I would also promote unpolished rice in our daily meals. I love eating and cooking healthy and as much as possible natural foods
