Many students are being punished for bringing their cell phones to school, even though they have valid reasons to bring them(like returning very late after tuitions, etc). Do you think that bringing cell phones should be allowed in a school?

i guess they should not, because i think it is disturbing the process of study in school. can you imagine that whenever the teacher were explaining something then you are busy texting or calling?

when you are texting, the move of the phone keyboard is disturbing others. silent mode would not help when you are talking dear. you still have your voice out. if you use it after the school then you don't disturb the other

What if its kept on silent mode? Do you think that prohibiting its use during the classes, and allowing its use in the intervals is a good solution to this problem?

I don't see any problem of student taking in their cellphones in school as long they turn it on silent mode during classes and not using it while classes are on going to avoid distructions. Cellphones are now very important for us since we need to communicate with our family and friends as long as it is used properly, there shouldn't be any reason why they would not allow students to bring one. ;-)

If the school has a clear cut instructions on cellphone usage, it shouldn't be a distruction. Rules that will say: It should be turned off or in silent mode during classes. Shouldn't be used while classes are on going. Should only be used during breaks and lunches and off classes..Something like that.

I know that some schools in my country don't allow the students to use their phones at all and some schools let the students use them in the breaks as long they switch them off during the lessons. I generally think it is okay to allow the phones during the breaks, but it can be problematic for instanse if the students hide the phones behind the books or if they use the phones to bully other students. There have been cases where students have used their phones to take pictures of other students or teachers, and have posted them on internet in order to humiliate or bully the other person etc. That is one of the reasons why some schools in my country have decided to ban mobil phones completely.

Mobile phone is allowed in schools but I don't think it should be allowed in class where students are meant to study without any distractions so principals should therefore make it very clear to students to avoid any inconveniences.

College and school cannot be compared. College students are old enough to take responsibilities, whereas school children are not.

I am also a student who texts in class very often. They way i look at it is this, if i want to text in class, then i'm going to text in class whether it's against the rules or not. When i have to hide my phone from the teacher i focus more on being sneaky rather than listening to what the teacher is lecturing about. If cell phone were allow in school, there would be no reason for me to hide it, therefore i would text what i need to say, then go back to doing my work. I understand some of the concerns where kids won't pay attention and such, but they will get their priorities in check, real fast when they see they're grades drop. I also think it's a good learning tool because like it or not, technology is a huge part of our society and i can search the answer to a question in a heart beat on my phone. I don't have to retain all the information like my grandparents did.

Mobile phone in school should be allowed but have restrictions. They should be used before and after school and in between classes. You never know when an emergency will arise. Having communication is important and should not be banned from the right settings.

I agree with having a mmobile phone especially in case of emergencies. but during classes no mobiles should be left in students' hands or on the desks because this might cause disruption and distratcion.

I support bringing mobile phone to school, but it should be switched off during school hours or inside school campus. During school hours, if there is emergency, the parents can contact the school directly. But once it is past school hours or outside school, I think it is important that the children carry their mobile phone. I don't think they should be punished or banned as long as it is switched off like I mentioned.

I think, students shouldn't be prohibited from bringing phones. They can use this device on so many ways that could benefit them, however, they should be disciplined on its proper usage, and as well as the right time for its usage.

Yes, as long as the student is responsible enough and it does not become the reason for him/her to be distracted with class. Parents have a big role in this matter. Also, the school can have policies governing it like no using of cels during classes, otherwise, it may be confiscated and only be returned after class. To me, with the evolving technology, it can be allowed as long as there are governing policies around it.

Mobile phone shouldn't be allowed in schools mobile phones could distract the students while learning. If mobile phones will be allowed then the students can cheat using it,students can go outside and just text the other students and the main point is it incurrs a waste of time I hope this helps !
