Hot or Cold Water for bathing...

Which do you prefer for bathing- hot or cold water? Personally I love my water HOT especially when I use the shower, it refreshes me and I feel am cleaner (just my thoughts). Even when the weather is hot I still like my water hot although a few times when it is really hot I have a cold bath and it soothes me. I actually feel more alert with a cold bath but I always go back to my hot water. I was reading somewhere that it is not good to use hot water to bath as it would wrinkle your skin. I am not sure how true this is. So which do you prefer hot or cold water and why? Would love to read from you Thanks guys.

I like my water warm.. It is so soothing and calming and I really enjoy bathing. I hate cold water, when I bathe in cold water I suffer and I can't enjoy the bath.

Hi tolted! I prefer to use cold water or usual water temperature when it comes out of the faucet. Here in my country it is usually warm and hot. So it's refreshing when you just take a bath. No need to heat up water. But in December up to January, sometimes the weather here becomes very cold. That's when we need to heat up water for bathing. I don't like it when the water is freezing cold and you have to take a bath as early as 5AM before going to school..BBrrrrr..I love cold water but not that cold. I also have read that cold water are very good for your hair after a hot shower. Because your pores gets dilated during a hot shower. Leaving your hair shaft exposed and opened. So it is better to wash afterwards with cold water to make them close. And cold water actually tightens our skin too after a hot shower. And helps in our blood circulation. But also hot water helps in blood flow. So I think both are beneficial in their own ways. (^^,)

I like to take a hot or warm bath or shower because I think the hot water will kill off any of the bad germs or bacteria that I have on my body. I just get the feel of being cleaner after I take a warm or hot bath or shower anyways. But I do like to take a cold or cool shower or bath in the Hot summer time because I want to cool off and feel less sweaty and sticky.

I also feel cleaner when I use hot water...and yes I go for cold water when it is hot and am sweaty. The cold water refreshes at that point. thanks for sharing

I like to bath with cold water when there is summer and weather is too hot outside. Even the water of tank become very hot and that is really very bad. But in winter i could not muster courage to bath with the cold water and during the time i need to bath with only hot water.

The only time I like cold water for my bath is when im burning up with a fever. The water has to be so hot it almost melts my flesh off. I heard that a hot HOT bath is not good for you, but I heard it was because it dries your skin out.
@tolted (190)

hi there, yes I have also heard hot bath can dry your skin out. That is why it is good to use a moisturiser afterwards.

you are the second person to mention about cold water improving blood circulation. I need to research that further but you are right in cold weather it makes sense to bath with hot water.

Well, it depends. if i would take a bath in the morning, i would like the water to be kind of warm then if i would take a bath in the evening i would like the water to be kind of cold. however, it's been hot and humid these past few months and i always want to get a cold shower everyday. i hope the elnino phenomenon comes to an end real soon! ...

I would like to have cold water, I also have read somewhere that hot water isn't much good to our skin. Here at India when here's winter I always take bath with hot water, but as soon as I feel winter has gone out and my skin can bear coldness, I immediately start taking bath with cold water. There's different choices, someone like cold water, someone likes hot. I like cold very much. Because I feel that cold water can relax my mind.

I feel hot water makes me relaxed while cold water makes me alert..but I guess we react to these things differently. You are right about taking note of what your body can bear, so has not to suffer :D

In my city the temperature goes up as high as 40-45 deg celsius so there's no question of hot water now.lol. In the winter season when the temperature is around 15-20 we use hot water for bathing.
@tolted (190)

usually i do the hot-then-cold kinds of bathing. but since it's a very cruel summer for us here, i dont bother using hot water. our tap water is really cool and i love it, very refreshing. it is however too cold during rainy days, thus the hot-then-cold routine. cheers and happy myLotting!

Hi evepin, Do you mean you bathe first with hot water then cold? Or do you mean warm water.

when i was younger,and is studying or getting ready for something in early hours of the morning,i used to bathe myself with hot water. nowadays,it's summertime here in the philippines so i'd always prefer to bathe with cold water instead.really relaxing in a way. cold water bath increases the metabolism of the body up to 80%.the best treatment to maintain the heart is regular bath. Breathing becomes normal with cold water bath. Breathing process becomes long , speed of intestine increases. When the flow of cold water falls on our skin than the skin contracts immediately and the blood goes inside, but after some time as a response, blood to fill the empty area, blood runs towards that empty part of the body.This is the reason that after bathing with cold water our blood circulation increases and we feel warm. Bathing with hot water makes the skin rough,scaly and itchy which also makes the skin loose and causes wrinkles. Because hot water has the tendency to take away the moisture from the skin. That is why while bathing in winters don't use extremely hot water or harsh soaps.Add two spoon olive oil in the water before taking bath, it will protect the skin from getting dry and becoming loose.

Thanks for the tip especially about adding olive oil to my bathing water. I will try it out one of these days.

For me it depends on the weather, if it's summer, then I prefer cold water, on winter, warm water. For skin care, warm water removes natural oil of skin cause it opens the pores, so it's important that you apply moisturizer after taking a warm bath or put a body oil just before finishing the bath.
@tolted (190)

Hi elvieb, You are right moisturizer should be applied because the skin might dry out. I haven't tried a body oil before but I am considering it now. Thanks!
