I brought a new laptop last year and within 10 months, its hard disc is gone. Got it replaced as the laptop was still under the warranty period. Just angry to see how fast things can get spoilt. So how long can a new laptop last with out any problems?

My notebook I bought it two years back. It is going without any problem. Checking for the virus problems, defragmenting the disk, avoiding bad sectors etc could help a better working of hard disk. But to avoid spoiling, I have not idea. It might be due to bad made. Let us see what others are saying

Why not Acer? My previous laptop is acer and it is now 6 years and still running without any major problems like that of the hard disc. The current one I am talking about is Dell Studio. It is a branded one. The hard disc is giving some sound and not even able to recover the data.

It all depends on how the user treats it. There is no formula for knowing how long something like a computer will last, there is far too many variables. You could have a laptop working fine for 5 years or it could break within a month. It's just the luck of the draw and you have to hope you are getting what you paid for. Problems do happen occasionally and this is why warranties were implemented! If you maintain your computer properly, clean it regularly both physically and virtually, defrag hard drives, scan for viruses, install new hardware then you should have very few problems whatsoever. Computers are very technical machines and require diligence to keep them running in top shape. Sometimes things are also out of your control due to a manufacturer problem and you just have to accept it and keep persevering in getting it fixed. I know someone that has had 3 laptops over the last year with all of them having hardware faults/software faults, it is just unlucky sometimes. I hope you have better luck with your future laptops and computers then you did with your last one! It's good that it was still under warranty!

Cannot tell anything about electronics these days. Sometimes it works well and sometimes it does not. Not athing of our hands. My laptop was maintained well. All anti-virus software was intalled and it was cleaned up regularly. I wasn't even able to retrieve the data from the previous hard disc and all my data was lost.

Laptops run hoter than desktops. I have had mine and it is a dell for about 4 years now and haven't had any problems with it. I have the air pad to set it on to pull the heat away from it. But like any other product laptops can have flaws or faults in them. As for not getting an acer I would disagree with the person that said not to get one of them. My husband has an acer notebook and loves it. He doesn't have problems with his acer.

that depends of what you do with it and what you mean by problems. the laptops are designed to be more resistant with better quality. but it might give you some problems with the operative system if youinstall a lot of weird stuffs

Wow... what brand of laptop was that? or rather what hard drive brand? In the old days, they made stuff to last. Bigger parts = longer life span. Now days they make stuff so it doesn't last, so you gotta go buy a new one. Like this for example..I can go grab a 1980 2gb Hard-drive from my shed and it still works. including the old 486/65mhz pc it's in as well as the power supply and monitor. all still work. Yet its too old and useless now days for anything. And new desktops still come with bad brand capacitors. That won't last a year or two and swell up and leak. I fixed a few of these by soldering in new capacitors and they still work today. When the caps go bad, the pc will usually freeze on boot, and also make the power supply go out. Read more about bad capacitors at badcaps.net For laptops..look for the keyboard wearing out, the mouse pad thing, the power adapter, the battery, and the back light or ribbon cable to wear out. Most laptop parts are about 15 bucks or so on ebay. But taking a laptop apart can be a real pain. It's one screw to many if you ask me. lol! :D

Just could be the computer brand since some computers are just made to last longer unless it is a virus.

Hi, I bought my laptop second hand about 3 years ago and it still works perfectly well. I use it almost every day. Sadly modern technology nowadays can be a hit or a miss as to it's reliabilty. Sometimes you can buy something brand new and have nothing but problems with it, the next time you buy new, it works for years.

I am not sure it is possible to answer. My laptops had a mean life of 3/4 years without problems, but I have still in a box my first laptop, an antique Compaq Contura 430C of 1992 : DOS 6.2, Windows 3.1, 16 Mo RAM and... working except the floppy -- I bought a pcmcia flash card reader and found drivers for it, so it is not a real problem -- ! The hard disc is the original 700 Mb HDD and in the 90's I used it 8 hours/day. I prefer to use a netbook now, but I have also a HP Compaq Pro NC6120 from 2005, with no problems for the moment, though I can't certify it will last 20 years like my other Compaq ! Have a nice myLot day !

it depends on quality and condition of the product. and the way of the owner use and keep it. i bought laptop about two years ago and it still in good condition till now. if something happen in first year we could say we are lucky right? because there is still warrant. so we got the replacement.
