Is it really bad for the health? In some part of the Philippines they say it is bad, and they even use it to poison street dogs. But as I'd browse the net, there are only symptoms like headache, flushing, sweating, weakness and others, but still researchers cannot prove anything harmful in its ingredients. Well have you heard any incident that involved mono sodium glutamate?

I have never heard any side effect of monosodium glatamate or vetsin. Vetsin is always used in chinese cuisine and Chinese do have longer life span even they do have vetsin in their food. Maybe if one will have too much of vetsin, then for sure there will be a side effect. too much of everything is dangerous.

I'd rather stay away from it. There are more flavors I can enjoy and benefit from when I use spices and herbs.

Back in our home in the province, my father strongly prohibited us from using monosodium glutamate of MSG so I'm quite used into it--foods without vetsin (MSG). My father once attended a seminar about health and wellness when one of the lecturer told them that vetsin brings no good to overall health, though it is widely regarded as "GRAS" (generally recognized as safe)kind of food, it has some effects to the brain, it can contribute to the significant loss of memory as we progressed and it can lessen the performance of our immune system. So eversince, we never used vetsin or even seasoning in our foods. There are natural glutamate which we can used, tomato, mushroom and seaweeds are natural food enhancers and the nature's best source of glutamate, these are safer and healthier.

It is not true actually it is the well research food additive. It is stimulant and it didn't prove that it can cause cancer. In Japan they use natural ingredients to make mono sodium glutamate.

Mono sodium Glutamate came from sugar cane..which mean it is natural.and natural food are food that is good to health.. In my opinion the taste of mono sodium glutamate that react to our taste buds and to much of this taste make us(depending on a person) feel sick of the particular food with MSG,tagalog "umay" or make us consume more that make us vomit. or it reaction to the saliva that make it somewhat bitter in taste causing headache.

Monosodium glutamate mainly added to Chinese food, canned vegetables, soups and processed meats. Although it is "generally recognized as safe," by food agencies it still remains controversial. It has been used as a food additive now for decades. These are the symptoms that people say that it gives them:- Headache Flushing Sweating Facial pressure or tightness Numbness, tingling or burning in face, neck and other areas Rapid, fluttering heartbeats (heart palpitations) Chest pain Nausea Weakness There is though no definitive evidence of a link between MSG and these symptoms. Symptoms are usually mild and don't require treatment and it is thought that it may be only certain people who suffer from them. If you are worried,he only way to prevent a reaction is to avoid foods containing MSG.
