These days, I just tend to finish the chapter that I was starting to and then remember what chapter I was on. At one time, I used bookmarks to keep my place but the problem with bookmarks is that is that they keep sliding into the book. Although for a while, I had a bookmark that I could clip onto the book but it kept breaking. Then other people fold the page back but I am not that big of a fan of doing that. There is just something about folding the page back that annoys me. So how about you? What is your preferred method of marking the place you left off in your reading?

I hate folding the pages and normal bookmark keep sliding off as you say. I use whatever piece of paper I could find. Sometimes I fold up a tissue paper or when I read in the loo, I fold up a piece of toilet roll. Or I could just use some business card lying around. When I use a bookmark, I have to remember to keep them near me or I slide them at then end or beginning of a book. I still lose them though. So I resort to using whatever is nearest and useless piece of paper.

hi there megamatt.
same here. i used to make use of bookmarks, but they keep falling off the books. plus, i tend to lose em and ending up getting another bookmark.
i developed a habit of just folding the very corner of a page to a little triangle just to indicate which page was the last i read. i know it will probably annoy the next user of the book, but it's better i guess than folding a page crosswise. afterwards, i remove the crease by unfolding it.
however, if i don't own the book, i use bookmarks. i don't want a borrowed book returned with wrinkles because the owner might mind the little carelessness for his/her book.

Yes, its getting to the point where folded pages annoy me. I used to do it though. Library books from school, I would not do, I would just use a bookmark, even though I have lost many bookmarks. Any kind of borrowed books, no. However, these days, I just remember the chapter that I have last read(or the page number) and pick up there. Thank you for your response, it is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.

I've been using a good quality leather (Or plastic fake leather... not quite sure what it is) bookmark that I got for graduation. (Last year) I've used it in almost every book I've read since then. So it has read about 110 books with me. I've occasionally used a Half Price Books card-stock bookmark (they hand them out like candy every time you shop there) in some books when my pretty bookmark was in another book.
Before my pretty bookmark, I'd remember my place. It was bad for me because I never stopped at chapter breaks. I'm always snatching two or three minutes reading whenever I can so I'd stop at random pages. I'd memorize the page number, and then I'd forget it sometimes. Then I dog-eared corners, but I didn't like what the did to the pages. Then I picked up any old scrap of paper I could find because the bookmarks I used always vanished or got torn up.
I was really happy when I got my pretty bookmark. I should give it some silly name like "Bob", because I think I'm going to be using it for quite awhile.

Hi,there. As to E-books ,I usually put a bookmark to keep my place cause my MP4 support this. But if it's a paper book,I just can find it easily the next time I read.Actually,I seldom meet this question cause it's really difficult for me to read a book in several days,I can't stop before I finish it.I amreluctant to fold it .I think it's a rather bad method to making the place.

Yes it really is not that hard. It is a single number, sometimes a double digit number, very rarely a triple digit number. It seems to work well. Thank you for your response, it is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.

I have a Sony Reader, so most of my reading is automatically marked for me. However I still read paper books from time to time. Sometimes I fold down the corner of the page, which I never used to do but I will if it's a library book which has already had a bit of wear and tear inflicted on it. But now that my library has started a self-checkout with printed-out receipt, I usually use this as a bookmark, or a scrap of paper if it's my own book.
