I very much enjoy that the library is within walking distance from my house. If I wanted to get some new reading material, I can easily pop up there on my daily walk and check to see what they have. Also, there is a McDonalds and a grocery store within walking distance as well, so if I wanted something to eat, I can get that on my way back. Then I can easily walk to the park as well. Is there any place really close to your house that you can just walk to it? Looking forward to reading your responses.

Lancaster Canal - This is the walk I can make from my back gate
I am so very, very lucky where I live. Out of my front gate I am on the River Lune and look out over the hills of the Lake District, out of my back gate I am straight on the Lancaster Canal and look out over the Forest of Bowland and Yorkshire Dales. Here is a picture of where I walk straight out of my back gate!

Sure, there is a park around the corner, and down the street there is an entire cluster of stores. I could have my dogs groomed, get a manicure, haircut, go grocery shopping, grab some flowers for my mother, and an iced coffee for the trip back. Lots to do around here.

hi megamatt, i lived near a church, a baranggay police station, a sari-sari store, a water station, a swing near the school. well, there's not much more of fun like with you,you have a fastfood nearby which we have none.and library? well,i can travel 30 minutes to get to a park,a fastfood,a church, a place to shop called the mall. well, we just live near the mountains where there is fresh air sometimes. there is also a covered court where we can play basketball or tennis but i haven't tried playing there.if i play,i used to play outside my house, badminton.sometimes me and my siblings together with our niece used to jog at the sports center which is also 30 minutes travel from home. it's really nice if there's a walking distance park near us. sometimes i'm dreaming or planning to build a playground here beside our house.it's like fun when you have swing to ride on when you felt bored or sad and needs a little happiness in life.

We live on a main road, so within five minutes, we can get to a small supermarket, charity shop, florists, chemist, post office, pub, doctors, fish & chip shop and a Chinese takeaway. The library is a bit further, maybe 20 minutes walk away. We have a park and playground near us too, where we walk the dog and the kids play.

If i would go somewhere that is walking distance to my house. Hmmm, most likely I will be at my friend's house playing poker. Or at another friend's house talking about stuff and chilling. Or to a near by convenience store where we could just sit down and chill.

The jr high is right by my neighborhood which is nice because my older child will start 6th grade there next year. I'd have to walk through the woods to get there though and I'm not sure I like that idea so much after reading that there have been panther sitings in this state :S There is also a church but its not the one I attend. I guess you could walk up to the store but I'd opt for a bike instead or you'll get worn out. It only appears real close if you're riding a vehicle. I learned that the hard way walking up there when I was a teen.

I think it really depends on your perspective of what close is. I mean, I think there are times where my walking distance would be something that another person would disagree with. I say that if I can get there in a half of an hour on foot, than its within walking distance but your opinion may vary. Thank you for your response, it is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.

There's a huge gasoline station just in front of our apartment, and usually here, gasoline stations here in our country also has a lot of fastfood stores in the lot. So there's 2 big fastfoods. A fresh meat store, a sports store, and a spa I think. Hehehe. For now, that's mainly it, cause the area is still under upgrading, and I think after a couple of years, they would be able to build a big grocery / department store in the back, and an open air mall just outside.

A very big park is near to my house which is at walking distance just 500 foot steps. Also, there are many branded shops, grocery shops so I don't have any problem going far more. I just enjoy walking in the park in the evening so I would say I love to go there walking. Sometimes I go to shop as well for buy some fruits and vegetables and some other product when not in stocjk at home...

The park is a great place to go for me that's near here, as there are many paths. Plus, if I need to take a breather, there are many benches to sit down. So that's a good midway point a lot of the time on walks. Thank you for your response, it is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.

Hi Megamatt, The most important thing within walking distance for me is probably ASDA (a big supermarket). I need that to be close by because I don't have a car and if I can walk it I can save myself a fortune in bus fares. Also nearby are a library, the town hall and a bunch of shops, though that is also bad because I can spend money whenever I want just by going down the road! Annoyingly though, not within walking distance is a Pizza Hut (my favourite restaurant/take away) I would love one of those just down the road, though it not being there probably does wonders for my health. Not that far away there is also some nice green land which I go to often to let my mind relax and unwind. All the best, Dranz

A lot of great places by you it sounds like. Even with a car, I tend to walk to the store by me and buy groceries if I do not need that match. After all for a few items, what's the point in burning gas anyway? Its not that hard to carry everything. Thank you for your response, it is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.

My apartment is off the interstate, and is a very nice, cheap neighborhood, minutes in driving distance away from the heart of Bellevue, a suburb in Nashville I live in. Recently, I wanted to move to the heart of Bellevue, where countless stores are in walking distance. Recently, there was a flood in Nashville, and it had absolutely no affect on me. The heart of Bellevue, on the other hand, suffered most of the devastation. I couldn't help but think, thank God I live in the secluded hills!!!! Bad weather never affects us here! Now, everything is worth the 5 minute drive!

Yes, it is very fortunate when disasters just miss you. I know the feeling. There are so many tornadoes that strike down here that are a little too close for comfort. Yet, we have never gotten hit yet, although there are times where I am holding my breath. Thank you for your response, it is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. There are shops sprinkled all over the town. One of them sells gallons of ice cream and I buy there or at the other shop. There's another store where I get my coke. It's no mall but what sold taste yummy. Apart from food that were sold I was able to eat natural fruit just a few meters away from the door of our kitchen and that is a carabao mango. Nature is annoyingly close but the sense of freedom from stress never fades.

Everywhere important! Seriously, downtown is in walking distance to my house. We have area parks, restaurants, waterfronts, shopping, courthouse, police station...you name it..I'm near it...lol....well no that isn't true...I do have to drive to the mall :)

It always helps add some interest to any walk when there is somewhere interesting to stop on your way around. Thank you for your response, it is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. I live at the beach so I just walk about a half of a mile to get to the beautiful shore and soft sand. There's also a general store in walking distance so I take my dog for a walk with me when I go there. If I went to church there's one in walking distance as well. There's not much around here but it's liveable and exciting in the summertime. Take care

Better than nothing. Especially with the beach there after all. It would be nice to go there, but I live rather far away from any beaches and it is just not economically feasible for me to go there these days. Perhaps one day. hi there again megamatt. i love walking and just appreciating my neighborhood. am quite glad that our house is located in the heart of the city and it is very peaceful. from where i live, i can walk to different places. i can walk from home to different restaurants, to the park, to internet cafes, to the mall, to church, to some hotels and different clinics. however, it is unfortunate that the library, unlike with your situation, i need to take a ride to get there. also, the hospitals are not really walking distance from my house. =( i would rather walk than take a ride if the place is just quite near. of course this is a little help to my health, because walking is an exercise. also, it is a help to nature. less vehicles = healthier air. =) let's promote walking.

Yes, exactly, more people should walk when they can. There are a lot of places that are in a reasonable walking distance, but people jump in the car and drive to it. Granted, if its an emergency that's fine but if it is not, then there's really no point in burning gas. It is healthier for us and the environment to just walk. Thank you for your response, it is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.

When we moved here 13years ago, there was practically nothing within walking distance from my home except a mosque. Now there are several places within walking distance like the newly built stadium with gyms and swimming pool available, shopping mall, the train station and supermarket just a few blocks away!

Luckily there were new things built. Around here, the things were here but it was torture to get to them, because there was no sidewalk for many years. Now about six or seven years ago, they put in the sidewalk and it really increases my options for walking and I can go a bit further, to the places I mentioned. Still it is amazing how a little development can really enhance where you live. Thank you for your response, it is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.

I am very lucky to have lived right next to a small public park. Granted it is very small, only the size of a football pitch, but it is still an enclosed space with lawn where my kids can run around and play. A little bit farther off, but still in walking distance is a mall, no, make that 3 malls. Small malls, nevertheless malls, where I get everything from biscuits, groceries, clothes, you name it. I love where we are living right now. It is close to everything but quite private as well. Of course I have nosy neighbours too.
@megamatt (14292)

25 May 10
Well, nosy neighbors are a trade off for all of the places you have to go within walking distance. I think there is always a chance for nosy neighbors in a place that did not have three malls within walking distance. So you got to take the good with the bad. Thank you for your response, it is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.
