gift or curse?

I am working in a call center in the Philippines. Our account caters Canadian computer users. My shift is from 12MN-9AM British Columbia time (PST U.S./Canada) and obviously, we don't get too much calls. Yesterday, all I did is play around Adobe Photoshop on my workstation. Today, I don't have anything else to do yet. I'm pretty much underworked but overpaid. Is it a gift or curse? (by July though, my schedule will change)

i used to work as an inbound sales rep and my shift was 12am - 9am CST.. we dont get too much calls too even if there is only 3 or 4 of us on that shift... it was a curse we can barely meet our target.. there was even a time that i was alone... the floor is empty the guard had to wonder what i was doing... waaaaaaaahhhh....

LOL! I know the feeling. That is why brought this topic up. Because I'm the only one on this shift. My team mates who're supposed to be with me are on leaves (sick, exam, etc.) Pretty unfortunate, really. But I'm used to it and I don't mind anymore.

yeah... and the floor is creepy when youre alone... and what's creepier is when you get a sup call and there is no supervisor either.. lol.. my friend experienced it.. the customer called a hundred times coz she wont believe that there is only one person taking in calls for the account and that theres no supervisor.. lol

Your underwork but overpaid so its a gift. If its the other way around then its definitely not also a curse but a sign that you need to find new job.

oh yeah. I would not be in this industry (call center) for a long time if I'm not being paid high enough and the work is too much of a burden.

Consider it a gift. You have time to be on myLot during your work shift! There has to be somebody at the call center just in case someone needs help, but it doesn't take all your time... one of these days after you've changed shifts and you're working like mad trying to keep up with all the calls, you'll look back and wish for a quiet night like this!

I'm seeing that happening. =) I an now more inclined to thinking it's really a gift.

Wow you're lucky... i know it can be boring at times but still you should look at it as a gift because you don't get that much calls and still you get paid. I've also experienced that a few weeks ago and even though it was kind of boring, our team had more bonding moments and had fun while doing almost nothing yet getting paid for it! =)

Its a gift! I like that. But anyway don't be relax, there will come a time that you will going to be stress in your work. Be thankful that you don't have so much phone calls today so that you will not stress and prepare yourself for your next schedule.

I can't agree more. Having a job like this, regardless of shift hour, is really stressful. Good thing I'm on mylot. Sort of stress reliever. LOL.

That's an opportunity for you to brush up on whatever you learned during training. In that way, when you start getting flooded with calls, you'll be able to discuss your product with your eyes closed. Make the most of it and enjoy. ;-)

Well you should be lucky. I'm sure there will come a time that you get much calls than usual. Or worst is, the workforce analyst will notice that you have too much idle time. The client will see that they're paying for heads when they can have it lesser so they might pull out some agents by the time the client does its cost-cutting. So if I were you, enjoy it while still lasts and improve your skill set so you can prepare for any fallback plans.

I think it's a gift because you work too little yet you were overpaid. Others will do everything to be in your position. You even enjoy playing with Adobe photo shop on computer and yo still get paid. Call center work is a light job but I don't like the time of work. Anyways...you are pretty lucky to find a job that is more relaxing. While you still have free time enjoy it while you can. The worst thing is that if you will be transferred to a tight schedule were customers call every few minutes and you can no longer breath because your line is too busy.

Welcome to mylot, it is certainly a gift my friend in these days of job scarcity and low payment, but i hope this will change soon, it is really difficult to kill time hence you are playing there.. Thanks for sharing. Welcome always. Cheers. [b]Prof[/b

Hi! you should seize the moment of not getting busy at work since you said it will last for only for 3 months. After that I'm sure you'll get busy again. I sometimes fee unworthy whenever I don't have much to do while my boss is not in the office. I only did internet surfing but I do answer phone calls and I take care of our office. You should be glad that you get high salary, while others overwork but underpaid. If you are really bored and don't want to surf the net or play games anymore, try to do worthwhile things or help your co-worker.

Sometimes the life is like that. I think you are lucky to have a low-pressure job. If you can use the time well to learn some useful, then it's a great gift for you :) Of course, if some people just use the like to surf on internet for nothing, then it can be a waste of time.
