Do you have plans for a vacation this year? If you do, where are you planning on going?
As for us, our big vacation is not set in stone, but we are planning to go visit my cousin who lives in Virginia Beach. Neither of our children have ever been to the beach and we've not gotten to see Cindy in a about a year and a half so it seemed like the perfect thing to do.
In addition to that, we are wanting to do a lot of little day trips that are local to where we live. So, this weekend we are going to go on a train ride in another city and in a couple weeks we are going to go to a family reunion in Cincinnati. Additionally, we are planning on taking some hikes throughout the summer as well.

Us too, we scheduled a week in July, then found out there was no day care the last week in August before school started. I was able to reschedule mine, husband wasn't. So he stayed home with the kids one week, I stayed home with them a different week.

Last year that is what we did. We ended up staying at home and doing absolutely nothing all summer long.

That would be really, really difficult to have something like that happen during your summer. I hope that this year is better for you.

No big vacations.. but day trips are usual for us. We hike probably every weekend, especially if we're broke because there are tons of free trails and nature centers in the area. There are a few water parks nearby we try to get to in the summer. Our big summer event is the State Fair.. I can't even explain how big it is.. let's put it this way, Lady Antebellum is a FREE concert at our fair this year.. and Rihanna is one of the paid concerts, which I can't afford to see :( We can drop $400 easy at the fair.. and that's with buying the cheaper advance sale tickets and ride books.

I don't even think I'll make it to that concert, though I'd like to. Hubby usually takes time off work for one of the weeks the fair is here (it's at least 2 weeks long, ending on Labor Day).. but that is not the week he's taking off, and it's a Friday night, he can never get a Friday night off.

Oh no, I wish there was a way that I could come up there and you and I would be able to go to the concert together.

Too bad I can't get it into my schedule to be able to attend your state fair on the day that Lady A is going to be there. I would enjoy that so much.

Hi Doran,
We missed any vacation this summer as my kids went on summer classes. So, maybe we can schedule one last quarter of this year. Since there's lots of promo cheap airfares maybe we can take the kids to hongkong disneyland. i still need to save some more for this trip.

I actually wanted my daughter to do summer classes this year, but she won't go for it yet, so we have a summer of no committments.

Nope, no vacations for us this year!! I just told my hubby the other night that IF we were able to afford going somewhere anytime soon, I'm confident about taking our little son now (my daughter is all for going anywhere - I don't worry about her on that - ha ha). He's eating more solids and nursing less, so I think it's doable. But hubby just got a new job and he might not get to squeeze in any vacation time soon . . . plus he might switch jobs again too (long story). In any case, we're still on a tight budget for now, so staying over somewhere isn't in the cards for us. We might take a day trip possibly during the weekend. Beaches and hiking locations are local to us, so we may do that a lot. Have fun on your big and small vacation trips!! That's going to be so cool seeing your kids at the beach for the first time!

Seeing the kids at the beach for the first time is something that I am really looking forward to. Both of them love the water and I think it is something that they will really enjoy.

I will have to add borrowing my mother's digital recorder to the list of things that I need to do before we go. Thank you for the suggestion.

Make sure you get a video of that!! I remember taking our daughter to the beach for the first time . . . ohhhhh, her reaction was just precious (though she was not even 2 yet). At the time, I should have been better prepared in taking a little one to the beach - well, live and learn. I'm positive your kids will love the beach!!

That is something that needs to be done more in this world. There are so many young people today that just don't appreciate nature in the way that it should be appreciated.

My vacation this year will be to Canada. Next month I am flying off to Vancouver with my toddler son and baby daughter. We will be visiting Vancouver, Vancouver Island and hopefully the Rocky Mountains. We will have my daughter's first birthday, Canada Day and my birthday in Canada. I am so very much looking forward to my vacation. The time leading up to it has been rather like a nightmare because the airline have been having strikes. I will be sad it our fights get canceled due to strike action. We would be able to re-book for a different date but it wouldn't be at the time we wish to go. I hope you will have a lovely time at Virginia Beach.

I've never been to Canada. However, it is definitely on my list of places to go in my lifetime. My hubby isn't really keen on long trips in planes though because he spent so much time in the air when he was younger. His father was in the military and they moved between Oklahoma and Germany throughout his childhood. Their family finally settled back down in Kentucky when he was 15 years old.

Yes we are taking a long one this year. We will be driving almost across the country to California. My husband has an aunt out there and we are going to go to Thomas Land at the Six flags there. We also have a friend that lives in San Diego and we are going to spend a couple days there and visit with him. We are also going to spend a day in Denver and we are going to spend a day in Santa Fe New Mexico should be a long tirint trip but hopefully it will be fine.

What you are doing this year is something that I really want to be able to do with my family at some point in the future. We've never had a road trip but it is something that I think would create great lasting memories.

Hi Dorann,
Where I live summer is about to end, and classes will soon start in the middle of June. My family just came back from a week-long vacation in Hong Kong, China. We got to see the famous destinations there like Hong Kong Disneyland, the Ocean Park, the Victoria Peak, and the Avenue of the Stars. It was a whole lot of fun and I'm so happy to see my kids really enjoy their time. Early this summer we did go to a beach about 4 hours away from home. It was so much fun, I can still feel the sand touch my toes.

It does sound like you had a wonderful vacation time. I can't believe that my daughter's school year is coming to an end in just four more days. Finally she will be able to sleep in and also spend more time with us. In addition to travelling this year, she wants to be on the local swim team as well which is going to be a first for her.

You are right, taking a vacation does mean that you are spending money, but it is worth it to me to give my children the opportunity to experience things that they may not be able to do otherwise.

No way for vacation this year. Since I lost a job about 6 months ago, I have taken up as a freelancer for servicing web designing and development. So there is no regular income and whatever comes in is already accounted for. So I don't think I can plan a vacation this year. Least I can just plan to go to my parents house and spend 3-4 days with them.

hi dorannmwin I would so love to just get on a bus and go
down to the beach for a few hours.just to get away from
here and out among ordinary people again. breath salt air
walk along the shore and eat charlies chili at Charlies Chili
an old timey place been there for decades, and has a lot of history
too. I would have to take the access bus as getting off and on the city buses is so hard for me as my left arm does not lift up due to
shoulder joint replacement. I could do this on the first on some month and maybe I will just do it for myself.

I have major vacation plans this year. More then I can handle, good thing I got a wife and Kid to help me out.
It should work out to a week and a bit with the family visiting the Canadian side of Waterton-Glacier International Peace Park, between the borders of Montana and Alberta.
Followed up with a visit to Texas for Vitamarks International Convention. If not, a lesbian wedding back home....
Either way it should be an interesting time, plus lots of camping and day trips in this area, I know so little about the area, and my wife(who is from here) is very little help. Which I found surprising since she worked at a museum here for a few years.
With Appreciation.

The day trips to things that are close to where you live are one of my favorite things. There are a lot of places around here that we've never had the opportunity to visit and that is why we are trying to scope out different places for this year. Last year we did it once and it made quite an impression on the children.
