Police Officer Killed Today :(

United States
May 26, 2010 8:48pm CST
This morning at 1am police officer Murphy was shot and killed. The suspect has been apprehended and is in custody. Officer Murphy was just 29 years old; he leaves behind a wife and two children, a 2 year old and a 2 week old. The worst news for me is, Officer Murphy was the husband of one of my sisters friends. He was also the brother in law to a firefighter my dad knows from his job as a doctor (and the occasional poker game). My sister is broken hearted over it and feels so helpless when it comes to helping her friend. Follow the link to read the whole story and see a video on it. http://www.azfamily.com/news/local/Phoenix-police-officer-killed-in-early-morning-shooting-94916484.html

Its so difficult when something like that hits home or near home. I understand you, since I have experienced some of such magnitude and actually a little deeper. One can only hope to be strong enough to survive it.

Oh, I'm sorry for what ever happened to you His wife is very strong (so my sister tells me), and she has a big support system.

My condolences to your friend, your family and yourself. It is always hard to lose someone close to you, when it is in a violent manner such as this it is even worse. Officer Murphy will be in my prayers as will all of you he left behind.

I haven't read this story but from what you said, it is very sad...I feel for the family but moreso for the kids who are going to grow up not knowing their dad personally...I know their family will never let them forget about the dad but to the kids, that won't be the same as knowing him personally. My condolances to the family.

Yeah, it breaks my heart thinking about the children. But, you know, at least he got to see his son born, right? That probably filled out heart with happiness and pride. Thank you very much moonchild.

I agree, at least he got to see his son born. Being a cop does make it hard though as it's a high risk job. I honestly don't know what my 3 year old daughter would do if she lost me or her dad.

hi lilyofthethorns- my sister also lost her husband when he was 33 years old he was also a police officer. he left behind at the time two sons and a adopted daughter one son being 12 one 15 and the daughter 4 .this is a very sad thing that is hard to get over. it still hurts all of us to this day and every time i see a police officer my respect runs high for them male or female. no one ever knows what the family and officers go threw in every day life for the sake of others.god bless every one that is associated with this.

Thank you so much for sharing. I'm sorry to you and your family for your loss-how long ago did he pass away? How are the children doing? I respect police officers a lot too. I actually just sent away for a sticker for my car stating that fact. Can't wait to get it! Thank you

It sucks to know that people die enforcing the law. It's even worse to know that people can die doing their jobs. Please send my condolences to your sister's friend if you can. I'm so sorry this happened.

I'm very sorry for your and their loss. This has to be devistating for his wife. It's hard to loose a husband, but to also have two young children. I hope she comes from a large family and/or has a big friendship support system.

She works as a teacher at the school where my sister teaches, she has a lot of friends there (it's a tight knit group!) And I know she has a brother and a sister (I'm guessing parents too, but not sure). She definitely won't be alone--but you know, who can replace a husband? Thank you

OMG how horrible so young to be gone. Leaving a family with his whole life ahead of him. I feel so bad for his two children. I can't imagine what his wife is giong through especially after only having a child two weeks ago. How does someone survive this. I hope the suspect gets the electric chair.

I know!! I can't even imagine, I don't even want to try!! It's horrible how one person and one situation can effect so many people, children included, in such a negative way.
