how long can you stay silent and still?

In all the chaos of everyday life as you hurtle along from morning to evening, from the moment you jack-knife from bed to the time you hit the pillow already half-asleep, do you take out a single quiet moment? Not a moment for others, not for yourself, nor for any other great activity! Just a moment for Nothing! A moment not for reflection, but just to be, a moment in which you just exist and do nothing else.
I try to be silent for 30 minutes some day and it feels good, not talking to anyone just being myself. I try to think nothing but something is always in mind.
Do you maintain silence? if yes for how long?

I can stay silent for hours.. I can sit alone n still enjoy.. But the problem is i cannot stop myself from thinking...i keep on thinking something and i guess such type of thinking is really dangerous...I can be still for few minutes only... I am given much to reflection...

There is no limitation for self reflection. One can take hours to do this, but it can become a bad habit in today rush society don't you think?

Every morning, before taking tea, I take a walk upstairs, for about 30 minutes. I am not talking to anybody then, and there is nobody on terrace either. It feels really good. I can stay silent most of the time, but like music. So every now and then, I sing along a couple of lines with the singer. :)

Thats good. Even I start singing after a long pause and one song which I start singing in the morning will be on my lips for the day.
Keep silence and hear yourself.
Wish you good health and thanks for the response.

Haha this is a question that I sometimes wonder myself. Going to be honest here, I can't sit and stay quiet for long. It is so much easier to talk and listen and interact than pouting to oneself.
As far as a moment of silence, I think everyone needs to do this once a day. 5 min in the morning and 5 min before going to bed. Tell yourself what you want to accomplish today and at the end of the day, reflect on what you did accomplished.

I can stay silent and still for one hour if needed be. Because it's part of my training when I am still studying criminology in college. Since I have that training I can do that and I'm still doing that from time to time. My purpose in staying silent and still is to meditate and cleanse my mind.
I also want to liberate my mind and make it a more revealing experience. In that way I can relax my mind and calm my nerves. It's a good feeling and especially if your mind is already at peace with your inner self.

Great to hear that you meditate. Being silence you give time to yourself and mind which never take silence.
Thanks for the response.

Usually I am someone who talks a lot and I like to talk also. So maybe some five hours will be okay as far as I am in front of the Internet I will not talk to anyone so this will be my advantage. Moreover I do meditation too so this helps me to appreciate silence.

I dont do it deliberately, but I am quite a quiet person anyway, so often I'll just sit quietly watching tv or something for a couple of hours at a time. Generally I do quite like being in my own little world with my own thoughts etc and I'm not one for noisy or riotous situations.

I've tried to do what you are saying being quiet without talking to anyone for 30 minutes, but i found this happens only when i'm in front of the computer or exercising. There are several moments when i'm alone by myself but to banish all thoughts from the mind is an uphill task.I can maintain silence for more than half an hour but to reduce thoughts to minimum or nil is what i find quite difficult.I think this is a great topic which i have to practice in real life as it is another form of meditation.

Talking is a very boring activity for most guys like me. It's like the battery is missing and everyone tell me to speak. I find them funny because they feel a cellphone without a battery can turn on by a push at the power button. Sadly its not the case. Silence bothers many but I like the sound of silence.

I do my best to have 5 to 10 minutes of quiet time a day. With a small child and everything else I must do it isn't always easy but I do make the attempt. I have found when sleep is at a premium and I am exhausted doing this can give me another surge of energy.

i am a communication student and many say i am a jolly person.
still, in some moments in my life, i want complete silence. not just silence but darkness also.
there was a time when i decided to walk and walk going to who knows where. there were times also when i just sit in my room with the lights off and do nothing.
it feels good.
one thing i learned from the book i once read, "soemtimes in tough situations, the best things to do are keep quiet, breath slowly and think."
silence really is a great help. even in communication, silence is considered an important element.

That line is really good and we should follow that sometimes. you do communicate many things without even speaking so silence is gold.

No the only reason I would be silent is because I am hiding. I don't meditate because I wouldn't be able to just sit and think of nothing , I would plot an plan instead. But I do take some Sarah time. I do what I want to do.

I am not a loner,but i don't socialize too much either.
I took time being alone when i am thinking about my kids, and their future.
Most of the times,my kids welfare is what made me silent and sit and think.
Sometimes i can stay an hour being silent, unless broken from a phone ring or barking of my dogs.

I can not stay silent and still for very long at all. I like to voice my opinion, wanted or not. I like to be in charge , so silent and still are not coexisting in my world.

well I always do that even when I'm school, its like my habit, I love to be silent and just sit, my friend even call me weird or something worst but I don't care, I like what I'm doing and sometimes I love watching people, what they do, how they react on something.
I still have a social life, now that I belong to a scouting movement in our university, but sometimes I still like to be in silence and do nothing.
