The European Commission in a campaign to educate and enlighten the public on climate change suggests "take the situation into your own hands", or specific advice to "adjust the thermostat, turn off the switch, recycle, walk".
Environmental advice provided is simple and implemented easily without effort from everyone.
* Do not leave your appliances on standby- use the button on-off to turn of the TV for example. If a TV is open every day for three hours and the other is on standby , unnecessarily spend nearly twice more energy.
* Unplug the charger from the phone socket when not charging the device. Otherwise the charger continues to draw unfair electricity
*prefer fans from air conditioners is literally devouring energy, emitting approximately 650 grams of carbon dioxide per hour.
*use the washing machine and dishwasher only when full and prefer cooler temperatures
*boil only as much water as you need to make your coffee. If all European boiled just the water they needed, the energy would be saved could provide current to one third of all lighting poles on European roads
*set low heat
* do not let heat escape from your home
* move refrigerator and freezer away from cooker
*recycle your organic waste
*try to travel short journeys on foot rather than car
* do not leave empty roof rack on your car. it can increase CO2 emissions to 10%
i am trying to follow this proposals. What are you doing for our environment ?

I am trying to do my best for the environment although I must recognise that I might not be doing so much if I had not discovered that helping the environment was a way to help me save on bills and money.
I´m making compost for next year´s raised beds to have some home grown veggies. I will grow veggies that are more expensive and take up little space, plus a couple of zuchinni plants that will mean zuchinni all summer. There I´m placing all organic waste from the kitchen.
I don´t use central heating (not necessary in my country) and I´m savig a lot in gas heaters by using warmer clothes.
Other mentioned ideas (like boiling just enough water, making my house as weather proof as posible, washing dishes and clothes only when when the machines are full, etc)are also part of my everyday life.
And it works. I save, not only for the environment, but also for me.

One can do so many things within ones capacity to save the environment and make this world a better place to live. I love plants and trees and each year with some friends I distribute some saplings to offices, schools and small business houses . Other than that I do everything possible to save on energy and walk most of the time instead of using the car and also use public transport if needed etc ;.. all the best and have a great day

I use the new light bulbs that are more environmentally friendly. I turn off all my appliances when not in use, and unplug things like lamps when I'm not using them either. I use less water when boiling noodles, and I recycle my plastic items. I also buy recycled items when I can afford it. Like greeting cards made of recycled paper, or aluminium wrap that has been previously recycled.

I'm glad to see that so many people are making small changes in their lives to help save our environment. I am constantly looking for ways to reduce waste and save water or energy. I always bug my family to turn the lights off when they aren't using them, but often just do it myself because they can't seem to remember. I also collect water while I wait for my shower to heat up, and then use it to water my plants.
I've written an article with a few more ways to go green, check it out:

i do not do much. But i do a bit towards environment.
The best thing i have planted many trees.
I use less water and don’t waste water. I donot waste electricity. I don’t waste foscil oils also. We share our bikes to reach common destination.
I think if people start to know their responsibilities towards environment we could save alot.

Hi friend,
I don´t know whether I´m trying to save the environment, as you say, or to be frugal because I need to be. I do most of the things you mentioned, but I think more about saving. I was taught from my childhood never to throw away anything that could be turned into somethung else. When my girls were little, be had good earnings. But I sewed shirts for my girls from my husband´s old shirts. He liked and used very good shirts with wonderful material. The collar was not good anymore but the body could be turned into new, smaller, shirts. I knitted sweaters and then, when the kids outgrew them I would unknitt them, wash the wol and knitt again (maybe in stripes, using two of the old wools). I could go on forever. Now I live alone and now it´s a question or money and not a game of wits as it was before. I wasn´t recucling organic waste for some time, but mylot gardeners made me want to start a veggie garden again. So I´m starting again my compost pile. I have asked for help here and I´m following my friend´s advises.
Have a lovely day!

Switch off the lights when leave the room.
Don't leave the tap watering when I finish washes.
Set apart the batterys from other useless rubbish.
I know as a student, all that I can do are very simple and small. But if everyone can do such small things, that will contribute a lot to save the environment .
