Recently I am helping out a friend supervising their restaurant as he is out of town and so as his sister. Part of the arrangement while I am over looking the restau I can sleep there together with my family as it is also their house on the front area. We can also have free food and really delicious food as the place is one of the best here in our city. Definitely we can use their room and all the other facilities such as TV and DVD, air con, free laundry, free cleaning and cooking as there is a maid to clean and we have kitchen staff to cook. We eat our breakfast and dinner in the garden. Oh the restaurant is a garden restaurant so I could say that it is really nice and very relaxing to eat outside. Most especially in the evenings when you can the lights are on. It seems like we were having a vacation while working not really a bad idea right? But as we were approaching the end of the week it seems like we missed our home more. Well not the children though coz they love it there as they have all the cartoon channel they can have and all the DVD cartoons there. (we don't have cable TV at home, as the kids could be addicted). But me and my husband feels more comfortable in our bed. In fact my hubby couldn't even sleep well there so after 3 nights he went home. Last night as I was sleeping in our bed I've just come to realize that even though if we do not have the same facilities as what we were getting there I still love our own house, our bathroom, our room, bed, pillows, kitchen etc. How unfortunate we don't have a garden. Do you also feel this when you have been away from your own home?

I can only last about two weeks before I need to get back home. There is no place like home, and home is where the heart is. (kinda of moooooshy)

Yeah, I agree. Definitely. The home is where the heart is. If I'm away from home, it's usually the little things that get to me. That there's no more loud television on when I'm trying to sleep or something like that. I guess you just get so used to it, you can't help but want it all the time. (:

My husband and I once went on a vacation for 12 hours. The place was only an hour away from our house, but we could not sleep there. It just wasn't home. We actually went home that night and forgot our pillows, or a pillow so we had his parents go back to get the pillow, as the place we stayed at also has a restauraunt. The nice people there offered the key back to us and a chance to stay up there again as they couldn't rent out the cabin, we offered the key to his parents as we just couldn't and wouldn't go back up there alone. We have all the luxuries here that we had there, the only difference was the t.v. wouldn't connect the game system so my husband could play it. We live out in the country, so really to me it's like a vacation every day, lol.

You're very lucky to live in a place like that. I'm sure a lot of people envy you. Most of my students who live in Paris would also go home to their houses in the country side. Where it is nearer to the nature.

I moved to the country three years ago. I had family from the Mountains and so always longed to live in the country, when my husband and I met and started dating I basically moved in with him, so into the country I am... Now I have family that is envious of me as they long to live in the country again.

hi rajaiv yes its always nice to come after having been a way for awhile. the old song theres no place like home really does ring true even here in Gold Crest it is good to get back to my own room although this is never going to feel like home to me,not ever as myhome was in an apt with my son then he lost his job and we got behind on the rent. we were evicted of course so I am in a retirement center my son in a gov. sponsored apt with three other men all looking for work.

Keep hanging on Hatley. One day you'll son will find a job and you will find your new home again. Just keep your faith and stay positive. Do not lose hope as little miracles in life come in the least expected moment. I'm sure you and your son will be able to be together soon. For the mean time enjoy your home their and take care of your health.

I know exactly what you mean when you mentioned the garden that you had at the restaurant but not at your own home. We have a small yard that has some planting in it but it is nowhere near the size of my Mum's massive garden. I was lucky enough to be at her house when we had a recent hot spell in this country so I took the opportunity to sit outside for some "proper" air. It really was wonderful looking at all the greenery and plants plus listening to the many birds in the area. I do not have trees around where I live so there aren't many birds either. Mum also has a really good television which is just as well because one disadvantage of being at Mum's is that I can't go on MyLot (or the internet in general) as there is no computer at her house. I am going back there in a few hours time but I know for a fact the weather will not be as wonderful as it was last week...being a Bank Holiday weekend might have something to do with it as they are nearly always a disappointment weather-wise!

Hi Janey! Weather here is extremely hot too. Though it started rain 2 days ago but the humidity is very high. I agree with you looking in a green space makes things so peaceful and relaxing. Every time we have our breakfast there my children would always enjoy in the sound of birds. They would say "It's a different bird mom. Listen mom there is another one but different sound." The restau is not far from our home too just 6km away.

It's good that the restaurant isn't too far away from your home..so I suppose you can visit it whenever you like when time allows. That's great! Well, the birds around Mum's house are (mainly) starlings, blackbirds and sparrows. There will be some robins and blue t*ts but they can be elusive...also collared doves. My Dad and nephew can communicate with one bird. They can't see it but whenever it whistles a merry tune they try to copy it and the bird whistles back to them. It's really sweet. The bird probably thinks it's a mate or something lol.

I have this thing about sleeping in someone else's bed. I get what you mean when you say that there's really nowhere more comfortable but home. Wow free delicious food? That really is something. I guess we really can't have everything in our lives. So we gotta make choices and prioritize to figure out what we really need.

Yeah free food. yum yum! I just finished my cheese stix with caramel. This used to be my favorite. Probably it's the bed too. My husband just can't sleep but when we got home he was able to sleep in a minute.

We always heared HOME SWEET HOME! This means that it's different living with your home than your friends or from other's property. When you are in your home you felt relax, no need to worries. You can do all things aside from using your own amenities or resources. You can sleep even until the end of the day! This is the one reason I love to stay home. Don't worry although you don't have a garden now but you can make it soon if you want to.

At first when I'm on lets say a vacation I love being to a different place, with a different bed and all the accomidations, until a day or so before I have to leave, then on the way home is when I get anxious about returning to my home. I also think kids don't care where they are and some can adjust to change. Take care

usually when I go somewhere nice, I don't miss home until I am on the return journey. I don't know why this is.

Hello there! Im a cancerian born in the month of june and according to what my sign told me, cancerians are really homebody by nature. I didn't know if its just a guess but it really describes me as an individual. Im a homebody indeed and i really find comfort and happiness inside our own home. I also got the chance to sleep with other vacation houses who offered much more comforts but true enough, just like what you've said, there's still no place like your own home. I experience once in my life to be poor, well im not saying that im already rich this days, but we're much more comfortable than before. Our house then was so small and too hot during summer and heavily flooded during rainy days that our roof was not in its good condition so you will still be wet by the rain even you're inside our house. Depressed house as it is, i missed our old home, where its the witness of our growing years, the laughs and cries we shared and the feeling of whatever happened, we still have a simple bed to welcome us after a full day of activity outside. Yes indeed, there's no place like home...God bless!

i agree that there still no place like home. :) after a long day of work or studying, a bad day still all of it will be gone as you go home. after my tiring day as i go home and see my children all of it fades away and became a happy moments already :)

Home is where your heart is. Of course there's no place better than home where you can be most comfortable and relax. Where you can be the king and the peasant at the same time.
