The two styles of church have been around for a long time. There were significant differences in the beginning to make them separate but has that changed. Are the two church systems similar now or is there still a gulf between them. Have you experienced both and if so is there one more right than the other or do they both have their good points. If the difference is a major one how can they both be right.

Protestant Churches differ, but generally they differ from the Roman Church in a number of ways.
The Roman Church introduced a number of innovations to Christianity that some though not all Protestants reject.
First of these was at the origin of the Roman Church in the 11th century when they split away from the Orthodox Church, the then Bishop of Rome declaring himself Pope and claiming that authority lay in him not in the council of Bishops, which had previously been the case, he further declared the former position a heresy, which since he had formerly accepted this doctrine made him a former hieratic!
It also lead the Roman Church to change the understanding of Matthew 16.18 arguing that Jesus refers to Peter as the rock on which he will build his Church. But this is not how the early Church fathers understood it. There understanding was that when Jesus said upon this rock (Petra in the original Greek) I will build my Church he referred not to Peter but to Peter's statement that Jesus was the son of God.
In the original Greek it is clear that Jesus makes a word play, your are Peter (Petros - being Peter in Greek and meaning a small rock, masculine) upon this rock (Petra being a large rock and Peter's statement, feminine) I build my Church. This makes more sense of Jesus's words, why else would he change from masculine to feminine for 'rock'?
Also, after Jesus's ascension the actions of the apostles do not accord with Peter's primacy and in Acts there is a passage where the Authority of James, Jesus's brother seems to be accepted by all the apostles including Peter.
Furthermore Jesus commands against having Pope's
Under Thomas Aquinas they mixed mixed Aristoteleanism with Christianity, producing the doctrine of Transubstantiation, which I think all other denominations reject.
Other divergences of the Roman Church include confession to a priest, the original instruction is to confess to one another, infant Christning to replace adult baptism (immersion)
Creation of saints, where is authority for a Pope or anyone to do this given? Again Jesus speaks against this
Veneration of saints and Mary and the near deification of Mary in the Roman Church.
Protesants generally believe in the authority of scripture, the Roman Church in the authority of the Pope
Of course no Church has it completely right but the Roman Church deviates significantly from scripture
all the best urban

I'm a Christian, but I do know that there are difference between the two. Here's some of the comparison.
First, Catholics has series of saints, i'm not particular at the names though while the PRotestant does not have any saints. They just believe in Jesus Christ.
Second, Catholic churches has priests where in it is only through them that you can be saved from your sins. There are confession rooms where the catholics are to confess their sins to the priest. While for Protestants, usually it is more of direct to Jesus Christ.
Third, Catholics baptize the people during baby or small child. And it is through sprinkling of the water. Although some protestant churches are following this, many however dont. For protestant, it is through immersion. Wherein the whole body is dipped into the water. In addition, usually people get baptized when they are old enough to accept.
Looking with this three differences, if based upon what is written in the Bible, the more correct one would be the protestants compared to the church. In point one, it is wwritten in the bible, that we should worship only one God and no idols. This is written as one of the Ten Commandments. Since the saints are worshiped by the catholics, then they are actually worshiping idols. In point two, jesus said, no one comes through the father except through me. IF we want our sins to be forgiven we must come to Jesus Christ and ask for forgiveness and not to the priest, and last in point three, in the Bible, when Jesus Christ was baptized, he is baptized in the river, He was not sprinkled with water nor of a little baby boy. He was immerse and is old enough to choose.
I hope this can help you see the difference between the two.

yes, I agree with you sweechi. There's a big difference with catholic and protestant churches. I'll just add up to that, well according to my experience because I was CAtholic before. Hope no one would get offended.
1. Catholic most give offering with coins or small amount of money, while Protestant church give more, 10% of their income (some protestant churches may not do this but most do)
2. Catholic have 1 hour mass while Protestant have at least 2 hours service
3. Catholic dont raise their hand in worship, Protestant raise their hands to worship (but there are few who doesn't)
There are other differences but I think this is the only things understandable.

there are significant difference between the catholic church and the Protestant Church. For one thing, the catholic church has priests, and cardinals and the protestant church has pastors. Also the catholic church has a pope, and the protestant church doesn't. One of the biggest differences with the two churches, is that the catholic church prays to Mary to forgive them of their sins, and we all know that no man can forgive sins but God. I am a christian in the protestant church and I am very happy being where I am at. I don't know what I would do if I didn't have God in my heart. He has been with me in good times and bad, and I thank him for that. Take care, and God bless you.

In catholic churches statues will be there but in protestant churches only cross will be there. There way of worship is also different. Worship time is only 1 hour in catholic churches but in protestant churches it will be around 2 hours.

For me, both are false religions.
As to difference, the Protestant church doesn't have idols/images but their members are open to go inside catholic churches. My born-again brother is one such example of this view.
