Do you always get your annual exam?

And I don't just mean physical but lady parts? Do you do it on time every year? Put if off as long as possible? Only go when there's trouble or you are expecting?
I finally got in for my annual, a month late. Though, it's no fun but it has to be done. I hope you all do as well. As I think of the misery my MIL could of saved herself if she had been honest to herself and kept up with her annual exams. My MIL had unexplained bleeding for atleast a year (that she will admit to) and it only got when she was so sick that she was falling that FIL forced her to the hossy where they found an orange size tumor in her cervix. That is something I don't ever want to go thru nor do I want my girls.

yes i get myself checked annually. it just makes good sense to see if everything is in order and working properly. it also increases the chance of early detection and prompt treatment. so ladies, get yourself checked; the inconvenience is well worth it.

This is true it's an hour of your time if that! Always good to be upfront with anything unusual no matter the part to your Dr's. Better to catch things early than not at all.

I am just starting to go back regularly for my annual exam. I missed two years, but my mom got on my case after my cousin had a scare. After giving birth they found some possible cancer cells. She's my age so that scared me back into getting my annual check-up. I hate it but its a few minutes to last me a whole year so I can put up with it. Besides, its worse than the alternative if something is wrong.

It can happen at any age! I had a friend who had cells removed in HS! The thing though is being younger we all think we are invincable til someone gets ill from this or that KWIM?

3snuggleBunnies oh no I am way past needing that, nothing hurts there, but I see mydoctor every three months anyway for a diabetic check up.of course if I had any bleeding I would not wait at all but go at once.but it is essential to have all of your anatomy checked in an annual checkup.
I need to have a mammogram and do I hate that. lol. also must have my eyes checked too.

That would of been a red flag to me especially w/o being on hormone therapy (as far as I know anyway).
I haven't had a mammogram yet as I'm too young but they say those hurt like H E Double hockey sticks!

I only go when I absolutely have to, which is when I need my birth control refilled. If I ever had a problem or was concerned about something I would deal with it right away but as things stand right now I do try to avoid it for as long as possible. I know it's important and I do go when I have to but it certainly isn't something I look forward to!

No one looks forward to it. But it's something we should get done. I know though since having my kids it doesn't bother me as much as it did before kids.

And after having children even though the exam is awkward it still needs to be done and be comes less of a big deal to have it done.

Yes I go in yearly. I'm on birth control and they won't give me a new refill without me going in once a year. It's a pretty goodincentive to keep going in. I think I'd still go even without it tho because they found my mom had cervical cancer with one of her tests and because she went in regularly they were able to find it early enough to remove it safely without complications. The early detection saved her life and that's a good reason to get checked!

That is true they won't refill you script w/o an exam.
I'm glad the cancer was caught early with your Mom. Plus that is also incentive for you to go in besides the BC as you never know if you'll have similar issues or not in your life time.

Nope. I'm 56 and haven't had an annual for at least 7 years. If I die, I die. There will be no heroic measures. I don't have a doctor and don't plan to get one anytime soon. I don't have a cervix, either, but I do have my ovaries--I remember my now ex husband was angry that I made them leave my ovaries when I had my hysterectomy.

You are absolutely right. It is something that is very important. I'd like to say that I do a good job getting my exams. I'd say that I have about a 90% track record. I guess that is better than some people. I have to say though, that if something seemed wrong I would go right away. Either way it is not really a fun thing to do.

I'll do my pap smear every other year so as whole abdomen ultrasound. So I alternate it having no ill feeling yet. It says 'Prevention is better than cure'. That's why I'll planning to undergo cervical cancer vaccine with my daughter. I prepare my financial matters first.

My doctor advised me to get my annual exam because I was diagnosed of something alarming this year and she doesnt want me to take it lightly cause she said that its a low risk cause for having cancer. Its alarming for me too but sometimes you have to take control of everything since its going to be a bad thing if you worry and if you dont have finances to help you keep your peace of mind. lol

Hey, you are stealing my thoughts???? I thought about this topic 2/3 days ago, but I could not come up with a good discussion.
I have a tendency to ignore it unless I have some problem and it becomes necessary. I always promised myself that I would do it, but I get so lazy and find a way to 'conveniently forget' going to the doctor's.
This reminds me that I have to go and get myself checked up as soon as possible.

I wasn't trying to steal your thoughts *LOL*
I know we all try to put it off. It's one of your day and only once a year no biggie but sometimes hard to remember.

Being in the medical field myself, I am petrified to go get an annual exam. Trust me, observing other female patients going through it doesn't make me change my mind.
In fact, I've never gotten an annual. I guess I'm going to pull it off as long as I can. I know it's really bad but I'll just sit here and hope for the best.
If I do get symptoms or so then definitely I will have to go. Though this topic is not related to women, my dad didn't get his version of his annual but when he did, he found out he had the latter stages of bladder cancer.
So far, I've been very catious and paid close attention to my body so fingers crossed, I don't have to go see the doctor soon.
