What's the scariest movie you've ever watched? Why? Do you like horror movies? Why or why not?
The scariest movie I've ever seen was Santeria. It was about a little boy who was supposedly watching visions from God and the Virgin Mary, and his entire neighborhood would watch him perform or experience miracles. But he was actually experiencing these visions from the devil, as were his 2 cousins, one of them a schizophrenic. The devil eventually would come out and haunt the schizophrenic and speak to her, threatening to get her in several situations.
Eventually, all 3 (the cousins and the little boy) were in the house together, and they got locked in. Many people were outside, trying to get in, and they didn't hear a thing at all. But inside, the devil came to get them and the little boy and schizophrenic disappeared. The last cousin ran out hours later, screaming bloody murder. Today, she is in a mental institution, and hasn't spoken a word since then.
This still frightens me, and I watched it last summer. The story is true. I can't help but think of that last girl, still haunted to this day in an asylum, and the sudden disappearance of her cousins.
Does this frighten you? (God, I wish I'd never watched that movie. Now I'm going to be thinking about it before I get to sleep=/)

First let me say that when they say a movie is "true," or is "based on a true story," anything can be edited, and will be, to make the movie marketable. Haunting in Connecticut is the last one I heard that had that designation. But the house is still standing (it was burned down in the movie,) the family had lived in it for two years, and no one else living there since had any problem. http://www.livescience.com/strangenews/090326-bad-haunting-movie.html
The house involved in the "Amityville Horror" is experiencing the same.
Most horror/thriller movies are silly, especially the music. A figure moving in the background is not scary. Having everyone jump at a sudden loud blast of music is a stupid over-used trick that annoys me.
So to be my favorite, there can be no music. Currently that is Paranormal Activity. It is filmed like it's true, complete with commentary that the police acted on it, but they didn't.
Blair Witch Project also didn't have music, but when the character threw away the map "because it wasn't doing them any good," that was just really - silly.
Another that may be on my list is Cloverfield. When I saw it in the theater there was a bunch of infantile adults who don't know how to behave in public, so if I find a DVD in the discount bin I will watch it privately to see if it's a favorite.

I agree!! Paranormal Activity was supposed to be so scary they wouldn't even how the trailer on TV. That movie was so stupid, the acting was horrible (it was plainly acting even though it was supposed to have been a documentary)and I found nothing to be scary.
Blair Witch Project wasn't in the least bit frightening either.
So, I've come to learn that usually when movies are supposed to be exaggeratingly scary- there lame=/

In term's of making me hide behind the sofa, no film has done that lol. I think the term "scary film" was invented for women as they are much more squirmish than men. A couple of good film's with the make you jump factor I would say are the wrong turn triology, hill's have eyes and 13 ghosts.

I mainly watch horror films...bloody gore filled horror films. So when people find out that the movie that I consider to be terrifying is The Wizard of Oz, I tend to get laughed at and receive funny stares. It is the ONLY movie...other than the original Charlie and the Chocolate Factory...that causes me to have nightmares.

I'm a big fun of zombie films
although the movie that scared me witless is not really a zombie film... the stars of the show had a zombie like quality
mindless, cannibalistic, bloody
they didn't shuffle along slowly though and they could even outrun you and eat you
that movie changed a lot of zombie films
that movie is 28 days later
