Hello owlwings,
I do accept & want to be like that but the case is your work is not done until you bribe them or you got to have political influence. As vandana has explainred its highly impossible without bribing the concerned authority.

Hello jonjee,
It would be the same here also in India if it would have been only one religion.

Hi Owlwings - it is impossible in some situations. We have water problems. We ask the government department for tankers. The drivers collect almost a 100 rupees (2.25 dollars) for bringing the water. If we refuse, we wouldnt be able to have bath! Utensils will remain uncleaned, and so will the house remain dirty! Of course, we can complain. But the point is the 100 rupees that the person collects includes about 50 or more upwards to the authorities! So we cannot really assess how far up it is going!

Yeah, a legalized form of bribing. You look at it like this, if they charge exorbitantly, they are there only for a month! And they and theirs too might face the same fate elsewhere! So they would be ok with a nominal fee, which could even be recommended! The problem is it has become a system. The senior takes so the junior has to take! Otherwise, there is risk of getting bad remarks, for no fault, as the senior is afraid of being exposed. Now, with what I am suggesting we would be dismantling the system.

I cannot answer this, bribing is not something done in the open here in the USA, if caught it can cost you everything. I know it is common in other cultures. We do tipping here for good service, but these moneys are controlled and taxed.

I am guessing you are from India.
The problem, in my opinion, is that, we, as a citizen, think it is okay to give bribe. If we all stand up and say NO to bribery, I think it can be abolished. The way we are going now, either we are too coward to say it, or we don't want to say it for fear of getting a 'friend' or a 'relative' in trouble.
In some cases, I am left with no choice as not paying will lead to more trouble. when that happens, I don't want to pay directly, I let my accountant or some consultant to pay on my behalf. Just so they can't come back and say I have given them bribe. All the consultants I hired and my accountant knew me well and they invoice me for those bribes.
We all need to change our way of thinking and take a firm stand. That is the only way.

Hello zralte,
Why ask your accountant or some consultant to pay the bribe on behalf of you?If you have m,ade up your mind not to pay the bribe then fight for it.It doesn't make much difference whether you pay or your accountant pays.

well, this is a political topic. I think this is a very ulbiquitous phenomenon in china. To be truth, i reckon that nobody would like bribing. But because we live in the society which conneted with complicated relationships, no one can do things himself. Life has many things that we must accepted it.

hi krupesh we do not have much bribing here in the US so you may be IN India perhaps? I know it must be awful to have to do that in order
to get your work done. Is there some more savory way to get the help
you need? no i would not bribe but again its hard to say just what I
would do in your shoes too. we come from different cultures but a bribe is a bribe anywhere. I wish I had a real good suggestion for you. How about better hours or a raise in wages?

If you have THAT much of a workload in which you find yourself NEEDING to resort to this kind of behavior, then I'd say you're in the wrong job.

I don’t come across or hear about a lot of bribing in my country. It sounds like it is one of those things that are impossible to completely eradicate I guess. The only thing is to not accept bribes and spread the word for others to do the same. I don’t know what type of work you do, is there any way you can get the message across your work environment in regards to not accepting bribes in any shape or form?

I really don't see that there is a lot of bribing done in able to get work done around here. However, what I have been noticing in the past several months is that people will use who they know in able to get jobs in this time in our society. Even this I don't like at all. I think when it comes to getting work done and getting a job in this world, it should be based on merit instead of the power of who you know.
