What's the Story Behind Your Name?

My given names are "Diane" and "Cecilia." I was named after the moon goddess Diana, because I was born on a Monday, the moon's day. I was also named after St. Cecilia, the patroness of musicians, because my mother and my father are both musicians. Just so you know, my MyLot user name, blindmoongoddess, means the same as my given names. Diana is the Roman moon goddess and "Cecilia" means "blind" in Latin (St. Cecilia was said to be blind).
What's the story behind your given names? Why did your parents name you as such? What's the story behind your MyLot user name?

My first name means Lily, so flower. My middle name was given to me because Catholics have to have a religious name in either the first or second name ( at least they did when I was a child) and so Mary, the Mother of Jesus for the 2nd name.
I was born Feb 2nd, near the Goddess Bridget's Day (she has many spellings in many different languages, Brigetta, etc.)
I was wondering why you went by Blind Moom Goddess, now I know. Thanks for the info.

Never thought of it that way. Thanks
Does that mean I'm doubly pure?

Well, it seems to be so. But only you can tell if you have lived up to your name. :)

Mary and Lily go well together, because Lily is a symbol of purity and Mary, the mother of Jesus, is regarded as pure.

My given name, Celina Ann, came from a mixture of my mom's name, my dad's name, and my mom's maiden name. My mom was named Cecilia. My dad's name is Willy. And my mom's maiden name is Natanauan.
My myLot name is chance 2691. Chance came from my surname and the first two letters of my name. The digits make up my birthday. So there. :)

Oh, you're named after a moon goddess, too! Celina is actually a derivative of Selene, a Greek moon deity. Hey, you were very creative in coming up with your user name. :)

My name is Lindsey. My parents named me after my mother whose name is Linda because they thought I'd be the one child out of my family with brown eyes like my mother. My mom also liked the actress Lindsay Wagner and used to catch the bus on Lindsay Blvd. My mylot user name is a nickname that was given to me by my aunt.

I thought Lindsay Wagner was brilliant as Jaime Sommers in the Bionic Woman. I even had a doll of her!

The name Daryl reminds me of an '80s movie, "D.A.R.Y.L." where an ultra-brilliant kid turned out to be a robot. The boy's name was Daryl which stood for "Data Analyzing Robot Youth Lifeform." It's a nice movie -- really old, but nice. The boy who played Daryl was so cute. I hope you get the chance to see that movie.

Sarah Ruth Beth is the name I Wish I was born with. Instead I was given a name I Hate, hate!I won't tell you it . The story behind it is my Real name was my mom's favorite girl name but it can spelled several different ways and pronounced several ways too. So Ever since I started school I have had to correct Everyone.I lost my mom in 2005 so I will never Legally change my name. So for work and on the lonf paoer trail of life I use that name.
When I got here I Finally could use the name I wish I had Sarah. I wanted to add Beth to it but when I got here there was a Sarah Beth so I thought and I added ruth. in Hebrew my name Means Kind Princess from the house of.it is freeing to be able to use Sarah Ruth Beth.

my dad liked hyphenated names so that's how I got mine, luckily he didn't have a second daughter because his second choice was quite a mouthful, not sure my mum would have agreed to that one though :)
my mylot user name is just the shortened version of my name with my initials - not very original but easy to remember.
Your name is very pretty and I too didn't realise that St Cecilia was said to be blind. I love the discussions here, you can learn so much interesting stuff - thanks

Hi! I was born in the early eighties and I was named after a popular pop singer during those times. Sometimes I hate the fact that that's the story of my name. My parents could have named me Cindy instead after Cindy Lauper or Debbie after Debbie Gibson.

I'm not sure where my name came from. But my dad always said that they sort of combined my dad and my mom's nicknames to form my name. The reason that I'm uncertain about this is because every time I ask my dad about it, he kinda tells me this story in a joking way.

My name was going to Shell (which I don't like at all). While my Mom was in labor, she was watching television. A soap opera came on and there was a character named Holly on the soap opera. She really liked the name Holly when she heard it on the soap opera. So, when I was born and she saw that I was a girl, she named me Holly. I am glad because I like it much better than Shell.

Hi, my name is Merced which is taken from my great grandmother. Merced means mercy in Spanish. Well there's not so much about my name; for me maybe but to my grandma it means a lot.

I don't believe my parents gave any thought to the meanings of my given names before they gave them to me. However, they translate in the Baby Name Books as "born again" and "helper of mankind". I've often wondered if it was my destiny.
I use LadySam because my closest friends have called me Sam for about 35 years and I'm female.
