I was checking my email this afternoon and came across this email from facebook (someone that is not my friend I might add)
Hi Dorann,
As some workers were installing new wiring in the ceiling, they found a black GITANO wallet hidden in the ceiling tile of the men's restroom here at Singletary Center for the Arts. Inside was a PTA membership card, National Junior Beta Club card & Library card with your name on it, dating back to 1994 it looks like!
We just thought it would be fun to let you know that after 16 years, we have found your wallet I'm sure you were so sad to have lost! If you would like to pick it up, I have it in the SCFA main office, room 126!
So, I guess the question here is have you ever had anything really weird like that happen to you.

It really is my wallet. I lost it when I was in the eighth grade. We went to Singletary for a day long orchestra workshop and we couldn't take our possessions with us on the stage and they told us to leave them in the area where we had been working all day. It was during our performance that my wallet disappeared.

What makes it really strange to me as well is the fact that I have my name listed as my married name, with no real mention of my maiden name. I guess the fact that I have an uncommon first name and I still live in the same city made it possible.

I really did lose a wallet when I was in middle school and at the place where the wallet was found. Now, as far as why it was found in the ceiling tiles, that I don't know the answer to. It would have been just so easy to have thrown it in the trash can like you typically hear of happening when a wallet or purse is stolen.

I would go down there to check it out just to see what they have. It would be cool to get back something that you lost so long ago...

Oddly, I was watching the news a few days ago, and there was a story on there about a guy who lost a wallet in 1942 (I think it was), and it was returned to him a few days ago. I also recall a story a little while ago where someone in Europe found an old pair of dog-tags that belonged to an American soldier in World War II while walking around in some rural area with a metal detector. If I remember the story correctly, the man kept one of the dog-tags, and sent the other one to the family of the soldier, but I can't remember exactly. I just remember hearing about it. It is weird how some things have a way of finding their way back to you. Unfortunately, the things that usually find their way back to me are things that manage to cost me money or something...

I'm definitely going to keep my fingers crossed that those things that would cost me out of pocket never find their way back to me. I have enough bills and debt as it is, I really can't afford anymore.

That is exactly what I am thinking. To say that there were all three of those things in there with my name on it and also knowing that I did lose a wallet in that building when I was a teenager that it is mine. Very odd to have found it sixteen years later, but then, I guess strange things do happen from time to time.

So did you really lose your wallet way back when?? And if you did, are you going to pick it up? Maybe let them know that there was cash in there . . . and it had better still be in there - ha ha. How cool that someone would try to find the rightful owner if it is indeed your wallet - after all these years!!
Nope, can't say anything like that has ever happened to me!

It was quite a shock to me to learn that after all this time my wallet had been found. It is funny because since then I've never really used a wallet, I've got a purse with lots of little compartments and such that I use these days so that I will never have my wallet stolen again.

wow... that is really strange, and I bet you had forgotten all about it! Mind you I have to say they obviously went to a lot trouble to find you, if they searched for you through facebook, I don't know many people that would bother doing that after so many years. It's actually a nice gesture. But in answer to your question no nothing strange has really happened to me, not that I can remember anyway.

Honestly, I never really forgot about that happening to me and I would use that event as an example for my daughter to make her keep track of her possessions.

Oh Wow!!! That really is strange. Never had things like that happen to me.
Same question as previous response, is it really your wallet that you lost 16 years ago? If it is, it must have been a nice surprise for you. What about any other thing that was in your wallet, like cash or credit cards? Are they all there? Are you planning to go over and pick it up?

I was only in middle school when this wallet was lost (stolen) and I know that I didn't have any credit cards at the time. I believe there may have been a few dollars in there but I doubt that the money is still in there. I would be shocked if I were to go pick up the wallet and find that there was still cash in there.

That is really strange. I get the normal spam emails about inheriting things, but never anything that strange.

I would have expected this to have been spam but all of the things that were mentioned were things that I knew were in my wallet when I was in middle school.

Did you really lose a wallet way back when? Or is it a scam?

I really did lose a wallet when I was in middle school and at the place where this wallet was found. I haven't gone to retrieve it yet because I don't want to go down there with four children, but as soon as I have the opportunity, I will be going.

Hi, dorannmwin. No, something like this has never happened to me before. That is very strange, I must say. Do you have a picture of yourself on Facebook? And how did someone just get your email address????? Was this really your wallet that was missing 16 years ago??? This is very odd. I would really check more into this. I wonder how your wallet got caught up into the ceiling tile?? It is so nice that they have contacted you. But there are just so many unanswered questions that I would be asking if I was you.

I do have a picture of myself on my profile on facebook, but I look nothing like I did back then. What I am thinking is that the reason that I was contacted (it was a facebook message, not a direct email) is because my first name is very uncommon and I still live in the same city that I lived in while I was growing up.

I used to frequent this pub, known as the Thirsty Bear in Waterton Lakes National Park.
For a number of seasons I would be there each day. One year, I guess it was my fourth or fifth season working there, they were updating the tills, and they found my debit card, underneath the old one.
That would be about all...too bad there wasn't cash in your wallet.
Cheers.

It is interesting that they found your debit card as well. There are a lot of strange things that happen in life from time to time.

I feel it is a spam mail, the spammers and some players have entered all friendship sites like Facebook, they have no work it appears.. did you really lost or misplaced the wallet really?
I am in Facebook, i have many friends there, but i rarely visit, it is only when there is an 'add request'...
Thanks for sharing.
Welcome always.
Cheers.

I don't believe that it is spam for a few different reasons. The first reason is that I really did lose a wallet sixteen years ago. The second reason is that the woman that wrote the email also included a phone number (which I opted to not post on here) that does ring through to the Singletary Center although I've called it after business hours.

heyy..that's cool! to have found something that you lost so long ago, and the fact that someone was nice enough to locate you and get the wallet back to you
i haven't experienced something like this before, but if i do it would sure be a very pleasant surprise for me!

You are absolutely correct. There aren't enough people in this world that would go to that extreme for another person.

I have doubt that it is spam because it was so specific and there hasn't been any mention of that particular wallet since it happened in the nineties. I did leave a report at Singletary that my wallet was lost, but even in that I wasn't specific about what was in my wallet.

Of course this was completely unexpected, but since it is my wallet, I will be going to retrieve it as soon as I can get out of the house without the kids in tow.

I just now thought about this, do you think that a story like that could get me on Good Morning America or something like that. I'm not saying that it is something that is really valuable, but rather a very neat story about the power of facebook.
