Chalube

Well, I took Chalube to the vet. They drained off about 200 ccs of liquid from his chest, and think its lymph gland fluid, which probably means he has a torn duct, that would be impossible to find surgically, and the best case they've ever seen, with draining the cat every 2 weeks, was 9 months...
So, we drained and are going to try antibiotics, but the chances are grim at best.
Still, he's happier able to breath better, we've got a chance to see if he heals, and, if nothing else, to say good bye.
Did learn that we may have been under estimating his age, should be 13 - then again, Scamp will be 13 in August... so that's probably right...
So, we'll give him his meds and wait to see if he gets any better or starts having more trouble.
Prayer, glows and anything else you can think of, please send them to him

I'm so sorry to hear this about your little one. It is so hard for us and them when they are sick. I wonder some times just why they must be so sick with these off the wall ailments? They do no harm and are the loving pets that anyone would dearly love to have. Why can they not just go quietly in their sleep?
I have a sick one now too and they don't know why he keeps getting a fever just about everyday.
So my prayers go out to your little one along with mine and many others.
Hugs to you and Chalube. Healing thoughts and prayers sent your way.

I know what you mean. You may remember a couple months back I had to do what was right for my Ninja...he was and still is in my heart my big baby boy...you see his picture as my avatar. I have yet to change it. He had cancer and it came on fast. We medicated him, he had surgery to remove the tumor once. I was paying over $500 a month for his medicines.
They said when it came back it would be fast and there would be no more operations as they were not able to get it all the first time.
I miss my baby.

So sorry to hear about your baby. At least he will be comfortable for awhile. It is so hard when they are sick. It must be confusing to them, they know something is wrong, but not what or why. I hope the meds will help him.

That is all anyone can do. You can hope and pray but at least you know you tried your best to help him.

Poor baby. Hope he gets better.
Did I miss an earlier discussion where you mentioned Chalube and his problem, because I don't remember hearing anything about it before...

ElicBxn, Stop the treatment now! The reason I say this is because of my Gracie and her heart condition. Her heart was enlarged which caused fluid to build up in her lungs. When I took her to the vet the first time and found all this out, they had drained the fluid off of her lungs and gave me some medication however, the medicine drained her potassium too so I had to feed her some gatorade to replenish the fluids her body needed but after a while of the guessing game of how much medicine she needed, I finally had to take her back to the vet and have her lungs drained again and I asked if it was painful for her and they said YES! VERY PAINFUL! and is why they'd rather I put her down and that she could have a heart attack during the procedure. Girl! Talking about guilt. Whew! I felt horrible!! Here I thought I was doing some good and it was quite the contrary. Please! Love the little guy and take him in and humanly put him down. Please!! It's a very painful procedure so don't have it done anymore, please!

the fluid isn't in his lungs, it is around them. His heart is good, or they would've told me (they can hear these things and David spent a couple of minutes listening to it. He also spent a few minutes and didn't hear the "wheezing" that meant the fluid was in his lungs.
the antibiotics I'm giving him aren't doing that, I've given this med before. We'll see where he is in a week and then I'll decide if its time or if he's getting any better

Ok, but please do ask the vet before doing it again because it liked to have killed me when I asked. I would never ever had put her through it twice had I known. I would've taken her home and done the pills to the best of my ability and when it got worse, I'd have had her put down humanly. They may have told me the first time but as emotional as I was and with my hearing problem, I might have missed it but I heard them the second time around and regretted it big time and wouldn't have put her through it the second time or even the first time. She didn't deserve it. Heck, no animal does.

They couldn't give you something you could mix in wet food? I know they did that when Tootsie got a cut in her paw & an infection.

hi ElicBxn I will really pray hard for you and for Chalube too and hope he gets all healed up and lives another few years more. that is a pretty name. I have seen the healing power of a lot of mylotters sending them out so maybe we will really help with God's grace of course. so they cannot find the torn duct, maybe its really small or what? I once wanted to be a doctor but ended up working as a nurses aide. two hundred ccs in a cats chest really would make it hard to breath. I do so eny you and your kindness to your cats. Hope Chalube gets better really soon. hugs from hatley.

sadly, he's not responding well to the medication and I'm not going to make him suffer
He's 13 yrs old, and who knows why this has happened to him, but he's not a sweet, accommodating cat, he'd fight the vets to the finish to keep them from messing with him, so I'm not going to stress him out any further.

I'm so sorry to hear about Chalube being so sick! Bless his heart! I just hope that what the vet has done for him will help him and that he will get better. I'm going to pray for him. I know what it's like to lose pets. I was raised on a farm and I've lost several in my lifetime. I had a horse and a dog to die within two months of each other in the summer of 2007 due to old age. You can imagine what a rough time I had. I raised that horse from a foal and he lived to be 34 years old!

I'm sorry Chalube had to go through that and I hope you see some improvement. It's heartbreaking when our beloved animals are ill like this. If it can't be fixed I hope you won't let him suffer. Knowing you, I'm sure you won't. It's tough to say goodbye and I hope you don't have to.
