If that's the case, it's not a problem. Just simply change or upgrade your Video Card to 1G or 512MB will do. It's because most of the old models of PC's just have a built in video card of 256MB or worst is smaller... By then you will be able to make use of the programs having higher graphic resolutions such as adobe photo shop and other programs which requires java environments...
Or just check your registry or memory availability... so that your PC processing is going to be a bit faster than the usual... First, is to scan your PC for any possible virus infiltration. Second, is to check whether your registry is intact. Because when its not, the PC performance will become crappy. And the last option is, to secure a new PC or perhaps a laptop...
Actually laptops nowadays are already Core2 Duo, having good built in video cards and processors... perhaps around 20K or less your be able to buy a good notebook with high quality... ACER, Toshiba, ASUS are the most reliable ones in terms of quality. but the preference is yours...
Hope my response is of a big help to you...

That is a better... you can get yourself a nice notebook with a lot of good features at lower price these days. But see to that you take a lot of care in the brand you choose and make a lot of survey before buying one... you can always ask a review about a particular laptop on a forum or even on mylot maybe :)

nope, most of the notebooks now are capable of having a high graphic resolution program running. but you can use it to be able to do graphic editing if that's a part of your hobby Juice...
The brand and quality is all up to you... just make sure to verify or ask the sales agent first on their performance and capacities...

Have you done anything new?
Try removing any newly installed hardware, such as a printer, or uninstalling any newly installed applications, such as a computer game, and see if that resolves the problem. Make sure that your computer meets the minimum requirements recommended by the hardware manufacturer or software publisher before installing anything new.
Reboot your computer
Are you one of those people who leaves their computer on for days or weeks at a time? If so, temporary files will build up on your hard disk, taking up space in your computer’s memory and clogging up other resources. By rebooting, or restarting, your computer, you can clear out these temporary files and improve your PC’s performance.
Verify your system resources
People get computers for various reasons: e-mail, Internet access, games, word processing. Make sure your computer’s RAM (or memory), hard disk space, and other components are adequate for what you’re using the computer for.
Run the Windows Live OneCare safety scanner The Windows Live OneCare safety scanner can help you increase your computer’s performance by removing temporary files, cleaning the registry, and fixing disk fragmentation. Such optimization can help your PC run more efficiently.
Try starting in safe mode
Normally, when you start your computer, Windows loads a huge amount of data into your computer’s memory. In safe mode, however, you only have access to basic files and drivers (for example, mouse, monitor, keyboard, default system services and no network connections). Therefore, the processor is only running at a fraction of its
capacity.
If your system is significantly faster in safe mode, one or more applications or drivers may be causing the slowdown in normal mode. If you’ve recently added new software or a new device, try uninstalling it or removing the hardware to see if your computer speeds up.
Hope it will helps you!

there could be many reason behind this a virus or program taking too much memory .program like photoshop and CS4 take huge amount of CPU memory and disk space to run.firefox is another program which takes high amount of cpu usage.install anti virus and scan for system..keep enough free hard disk space.clean all the junk file..remove unwanted firefox add on or simply disable them.do not install multiple tool bar.use CCcleaner tool to clean junk files from your computer and register fix.once in a week run disk defragmenter.this will make your machine fast .

Hello! You are not alone, LOL. My laptop is also outdated--I cannot even upgrade to Vista because it doesn't have a DVD-ROM (not that I wanna upgrade to Vista ). I can only suggest how to speed up your Firefox. Have you tried tweaking it? It's fun and effective.

virtual memory low means 2 things:
1. you dont have enough ram
2. your hard drive is getting full
what happens is when your computer is out of memory ram to allocate programs then it start to drop the rest of the info that was in ram and is not used at the moment in a part of your hard drive called virtual ram. that is a file that grows a lot!
so an upgrade is necessary. specially if you say that you can't play farmville.
that is a flash game and if your computer can run it it means that you arent only lack of memory but also of video processing power.
you dont have to spend a lot of memory in a coputar to edit video and pictures. the trick is to buy a computer with dedicated parts for each function
1. ram at least 1.5 gb that is enough for this days, 2 gb if you want to be safe (remeber windows usually consume 500 mb in normal)
2. a descent processor that can process graphics it means NO CELERON
3. a separated video card (ati or nvidia) this brings also their own memory releasing some of the processing from the computer.
with this 3 aspects you can survive. of course remember that video editing requires a lot of space but that will go to your decision
:-)
hope that is a good guideline for you

don't you think it is better to buy a new computer than buy parts for the upgrade? there are lots of new computers being sold everywhere, less price but the features are very much appropriate for the latest technology, latest software, etc.

Increasing ur ram is the first solution that comes in mind.
But before doing anything plz use some benchmarking tools to see which components of ur machine are actually malperforming.
Might be ur processor is not performing up to mark.
I too have an old P4 with 512 MB ram but its in graet shape and I too often play NFS most wanted in it , photoshop, autocad etc are also loaded.
Plz scan for viruses, if none found it may be ur OS is corrupted so just format ur machine and try once

well i really do suggest you upgrade to a new computer because if it is that old then wow you must have like windows 2000 or something xD anyways you can always get more ram or a better graphics card and fan or you can just reboot the whole thing and see if that works don't forget to store all your files on a hard drive of course but other then that the only way to get something better is to buy it xD

Hi...you need to upgrage your RAM to at least 1GB to make your applications run smoothly. Or if your motherboard could not support a 1GB RAM, it is better to upgrade your processor and hard disk as well. With applications like video editing and photoshop, it is recommended to use dual core processors so that it will not hang-up.

Virtual memory is on your hard disk, not on RAM. I think that your hard disk is full : try to delete or save some files, and defragment your PC to retrieve some speed.
Firefox has a memory problem since v. 3, never totally fixed. Your PC is old, downgrade to Firefox v. 2 or replace it with SeaMonkey : it uses the same sources and the main add-ons for Firefox are available, but it needs less memory. It is an Internet Suite : the mail is based on the last version of Thunderbird and very good.

Yes you should upgrade your pc. You can increse your ram. And delete unless file from your pc. And also check your net speed. If it's not speed then connect speed net.
Then your pc will run firstly.
Good luck!

Well, you may upgrade your RAM, it's needed that you have at-least 1 GB, what's your current RAM? How much Ghz does your P4 have? Well, my experience with P4 says that it runs well with the 1 GB RAM.
You must upgrade it to the 1 GB, else you can format your PC, and don't install too many programs, just install what you need. You can use programs like TuneUp utilities to make your computer faster.

I agree with others that a gig of ram would speed things up a lot - however, I have less than a gig on an HP ze4210 and it keeps up fine as long as I don't try to run several programs at the same time. I play games too. Your hard drive may need defragmenting. The program is in your system tools under accessories. There is also a program you can download called "Advanced System Care." It has a free version and does a great job of optimizing what you have already on your computer as well as removing unnecessary garbage from your hard drive. You may have spy ware slowing you down as well, so beef up security and good luck!

You have Pentium 4 and you can't play farmville, your connection might be slow. A Pentium 4 PC can easily handle farmville as long as it's still working properly. If your internet connection is not the problem then the problem is the PC. Could be a number of things. Find first the problem before upgrading. Have you tried reformatting your PC? Have you checked if all your RAM is working properly?
If your firefox has many add-ons installed into it then it will be slow, try removing or disabling the add-ons. It might also help to delete temporary internet files. But those things will have little effect if your internet connection is slow.
