without looking at a map, how much world geography do you know?
i admit, i do know too much. i think that this is the general knowledge that i have to know. i claim that i want to travel the world. i guess i do not have the right just yet unless i update my geography.
a followup question, without a reference on anything, how many countries do you think that this world has? ;-)

i suck at geography. i remember when i was a kid, i used to be pretty good at naming capitals of countries. but as i got older, i lost my interest in geography. i also would want to travel around the world, but to do so, i think one doesn't necessarily have to be really good at geography.

I couldn't even begin to guess... I am so bad at geography!! I was i knew more, and think this should be motivation for me to learn more about the world i live in and exploring what it has to offer... even if im only enjoying these beautiful places over the internet until i can save some money to venture out of Australia to see the world.

Wow, world geography is my favorite subject since HighSchool.. I am not sure of my following answers but let me try: This is the number of countries of each 7 continent in the world....
Africa = 53?
Asia = 44?
Europe = 47
North America 23?
Oceana/Australia = 14?
South America = 12
And Antarctica by its self...
Total = 193 Countries?

Hi Kumar and Pinoyblogger
thank you for doing your research this.
from what i got, in 2008, there are 192 official countries. but i am not really sure about updates. will love to do the research.
antartica is another story.
has there been a person to travel all 190+ countries? oh, that might be a nice new topic in mylot. ;-)

@Kumar1232009 Antarctica is not even a country, so why include it in the total? :)

I used to hate geography at school and always thought it was one of my worst subjects.
When I took part in quizzes I'd avoid geography questions. But in the last 20 years or so with travelling a lot I have become quite knowledgable on geography and have quite a good geography knowledge.
A regards countries I would say around 190 - 200, not sure as there are so many very small countries

I had the same feeling about geography when I was still a student .especially the knowledge about the climate ,such as air pressure .
but you are great that you can list so many countries

Geography is my favorite subject! I like looking at maps and I plan to travel in all countries of the world when I have the means to do so.
As to your question, this was answered in a recent article which featured an American who was close to his goal of visiting all the countries in the world. The article said that UN has 193 member countries plus Taiwan, North Korea and Vatican City.
