Tasks - am I missing some fundamental point here?

I am fairly new to Mylot and just dabbling, please shoot me down in flames if I have misunderstood something. But there appear to be people posting 'tasks' for others to generate original web content, requiring excellent writing skills, following precise directions, and demanding full copyright to this unique content... and offering, like, $2 for 4 hours work?
What is going on here - surely no-one is working for that kind of rate, who can generate the kind of content being asked for?
I can understand people participating in the discussions and enjoying the sense of community and camaraderie etc, but why would you complete a task for someone else for a few cents an hour, so that they can go make money with it off a content site or blog..?
Again I repeat I am new to this so if I have missed something about the arrangement someone please do let me know!

Hi Comagirl and welcome to myLot!
If you see writing tasks by Sharonbucks then those are the ones posted by myLot. Many Lotters complete them and are perfectly happy with the reward they receive when they are accepted.
Other usernames usually post tasks worth less and myLot are not responsable for those. I feel that it is up to each one of us to decide whether they are worth it or not. personally I have never completed any of the writing tasks because that is not my idea of fun and I prefer the discussions.
Bear in mind that myLot is an international site and that $1 is worth more in some parts of the world than in others

That's the point too, choice! We each have a choice to take them or leave them

All of the things mysD said PLUS
I have done quite a few article writing for SharonBucks and I quite enjoyed them. There are many reasons why I did those tasks. You made a valid point that if you write the articles on your own and publish it, you can make money off it. But I would never write the kind of article that Sharon Bucks asks for, and I don't even know where to start to get the article publish. I mainly do it for fun and for boosting my earnings in myLot.
I don't think the rates are unreasonable. Most of SharonBucks tasks that I've done were completed in half and hour. And I got paid $3.50 for each one. I admit the last lot of tasks were hard, so I didn't do much.
I am not complaining about the tasks, in fact, I am eagerly waiting for the next lot. I wish SharonBucks would give out few tasks like every week, instead of giving the whole lot in one go.
