Okay, that was my first time to see it, and I don't know why the egg is black. A friend of mine, who is Chinese took me to a restaurant, and I had some weird Chinese food served on the table. There is dish called "1,000 years egg with roasted pork". The eggs are literally black. But I don't think it is 1,000 years old. I just wonder how do they make the egg black?

that egg called "pidan" by chinese and our people, it make by cover the egg with clay, ash, line, salt and keep it for several weeks until month, then the color of the egg will change, the yolk will become dark green and the white with become dark brown transparent jelly, it smells bad for some people but the taste is good.

Yeah, it look exactly the same. No, it wasn't that bad. I take a bite on couple of them, and actually, the taste is pretty good though. I don't have any complaint about it. I just curious how do they make it black. And I don't think it is over a century old.

Hi, swetashah. I have never in my life seen black eggs before. And if I did, I know that I will never buy any. I have seen white, beige and colored eggs from Easter, but never black eggs. If I did ever see any, I know that I could never eat it.

well as the post above its century egg like the post above. well one of my teachers told me that its called century egg because it will take 100 days to make it. Making it a century is better then the 100 day egg. But when i looked around the web, its different so dunno what's true

it is sometimes called "century egg" (alkalized egg) or "pidan" in chinese, it is one of chinese tradition delicacy made from either chicken or duck egg, actually it is not 1,000 year old egg it is 30 day old egg because the fresh egg was soaked in saline solution 20-30 days...the taste complements the any meat especially port and noodles..
