I am really pleased with and proud of my little grandson today. Harry is 8, he is the eldest of three children - he has two sisters aged 6 and 4. poor Harry has NEVER liked water, we have tried since he was a baby to get him to go in the pool. My son who is 14 has swam since he was 1 and Harry's two little sisters both love the water, the six year old can swim and the four year old is almost there. Despite the fact that we have a pool Harry has still always hated the water and not gone in; however this week he has come to stay with us for a few days. Yesterday I actually got him in the water (with armbands) on his own and today he has swam a full length(again with armbands), but I am really proud of him and can't wait to show him off to his mum when she comes tomorrow!! I have enclosed a photo of him!! What things have made you proud like this?

I am both proud and delighted with my granddaughter, who is also 8 years old. She is my joy and the light of my life, truly a gift from God. Her heart is tender and she is helpful to a fault, caring, and kind. She brings a smile to the face of all who meet her, from all walks of life, because she is innocent and genuine. She embodies love and takes no offense. Of course she is brilliant and beautiful! Since I homeschool her, I work her hard and she is always up to the task. She carries extra subjects gladly and has been taking French for the past two years, as well as her full curriculum. Next year she has chosen Latin. She always sees the bright side of things and is a young lady of magnificient and great character. She takes care of her grammy when there's a need and takes care of others also. Her heart is so full of love and she is stalwart and strong. She has accomplished so much in her short life that I am amazed. She also happens to be quite a unique character in the way she comports herself and dresses. She likes to wear funny hats and she's still young enough, cute enough, and petite enough to carry it off! She has a great sense of humor and is remarkably humble for one so young. She's also a great wordsmith.

She certainly sounds a wonderful little girl, and one that it seems you can take a lot of the credit for!!

Not being a parent, and so I'm also not a grandparent, I have nothing I can say about children or grandchildren. However, I sure can relate to the pride you are feeling for this handsome young man! I have no idea why he never wanted to swim before - tho I'm not real partial to getting wet myself, but that's probably the "cat" in me... However, like his sisters, you couldn't keep my sister out of the water and by the time she was 8 she was wanting to swim competitively. She swam on a swim team from 3rd grade (like 8-9) until she graduated from high school. best of luck getting Harry to actually gain some confidence in the water... You wouldn't think about it, but knowing how to swim is one way to save a life and while all the lakes in Texas are impound lakes (reservoirs), we do have quite a lot of them. Needless to say, we have a lot of swimming pools in Texas too (tho I don't have one and neither do most of my neighbors.) We also have a lot of public swimming pools around Austin and nearly all apartment complexes also have pools

Yeah, I've never really understood not encouraging a child to learn to swim. My folks were from New Jersey, my dad from Atlantic City and neither one of them swam well, but my mom, even tho she took some lessons when she was younger, felt we should learn. I swim well enough to have actually aided in the rescue of 2 people, mostly by being in the wrong place at the right time, until a life guard could actually help the person in question. Because I'm confident in the water, I didn't panic, leading the guards to not be aware that the other person was in trouble.

You have every right to be proud of Harry! He should be equally proud of himself. What an accomplishment!!! My oldest son was much like Harry. He was very afraid of water covering his head, although he had no problem in a wading pool. When his younger brother, four years old at the time, jumped right into our neighbor's pool with apparently no fear whatsoever, my oldest son, not to be outdone, did the same. They both taught themselves how to swim and I was as proud as a peacock! (I can't swim.) We went to an adventure park once when they were both teens. They had one of those wave pools there that was, I believe, 10 or 12 feet deep at it's deep end. I would stay somewhere in the middle, where my feet were still touching the bottom but both of my sons were in the deep end, doing flips, going down to the bottom and coming back up, just having a blast in that deep water. Yep, I was so very proud of both of my sons. My youngest for just diving right in at the age of four and my oldest for overcoming his fear of deep water.

I too felt very proud of my 15 month old today, as he to had his forst experience in a swimming pool, he absolutely loved it, splashing his legs and arms, and laughing so much... I did get a few pics, but I have just got back, so I will upload them later when he is in bed!

Yeah, of course. I'm so proud of my kids. At young ages of 11, 9 and 5 they all exceed my expectations. They can sing worship songs in the church and their voices blend harmoniously. And what's good about them is how they can recite fifty memory verses. I just hope they continue to hone their memory as they grow old.

I am very often proud of my kids. My daughter who just graduated from preschool got up on stage and sing with her class and it brought tears to my eyes b/c I was so proud of her. My other duaghter who just turned 3 when she talks to people they can understand everything she is saying b/c she speaks so clearly. She is a very smart kid just lazy lol. It makes me smile to think of the things my girls do and how much they pick up on. I love them so much.

I guess parents always get these feeling when their kids do good things or done something that make their parents proud of them. I am also a parent, and i am proud to say that,my daughter got talent when it comes to music. She can play various musical instruments, such as guitar, piano, sax and flute. But i love her most when she played her flute. And,she did not even had any formal studies with those instruments. She is too lucky to have gifted with such widow and talent. your grandson really looks cute on that pic

I have a 3 year old son and it really makes me proud when he learn something, especially if I am the one teaching him; it makes me feel I am a good mom and a good teacher to him. I can tell how proud you are, your grandson is really cute in his armbands, its a good thing to capture this kind of events.

Wow, he really looks like he is enjoying the swim so much. That's a milestone for him. I can understand the feeling of pride you have. How did you get him to get into the water? His mom will surely be surprised.
