Do U Wear Flip Flops?

I was told once by a Brazilian Tourist that only the poorest of her countrymen wore flip flops. She told me, as she looked around at all of the other tourists around the resort pool who were wearing all styles of flip flops, that it would never happen in Brazil. To be affluent and wear flip flops, was to be laughed at. She assured me that it was NOT a fashion statement. It has been super hot here in Orlando, Fl. About 98 degrees. I wanted to buy some watermelon sherbet from the corner store the other day, and I went in my "Lucky Brand" Lucky Asian Cat flip flops I paid $6 for at Macy's on sale. I don't wear them often; just to get the mail, or if I won't be walking that much. The corner store is a small walk. On the way back from the store, I felt my flip flop turn over on itself in the grass and I noticed the toe strap had snapped. I felt like an idiot as people in cars must have stared and the one flip flop girl trying not to step in the dirt with her other foot, and somehow still manage to use the broken flip flop to keep her right foot from getting dirty, as I had just had a shower. Thank Goodness I hadn't been on a long trip. The reason I had bought them in the first place was because I had been on a walk with tennis shoes and no socks, and got a blister. Do you have things like this happen with flip flops? Or do you avoid them altogether?

Well, let's just say it WAS funny. I stepped in some wet mud and came back lookin like the girl never left the trailer park, plus I had to walk on the hot asphalt gas/oil parking lot back home.

Hmm.. I'm wondering now what they wear on the beach in Brazil? Are they wearing sneakers and shoes with their beach outfit? I love flipflops but I don't wear them alot in public. It so happened I learned my lesson the hard way. I was just going to buy something in the grocery store and decided not to put too much fuzz on what I was going to wear, so I just ran out with shorts and shirt decent enough to not be stared at and wore my home flip flops. Well, unfortunately, there was a barbecue stick left at the parking lot of the local market and it punctured the side of my foot! It would have not been that bad if I had worn sneakers or shoes, but I didn't. Ended up needing a shot and having fever because of those darn flip flops. Now that I have that bad experience, I don't think I could ever dare wearing flip flops when going out. When I need to, like on the beach, then I would be extra careful looking at where I'm walking.

did the stick have metal in it? How did you get a fever? That totally sucks donkey balls. No wonder you hate flip flops now. I know it's impossible to run in flip flops. Ouch! That could have happened with good quality sandals too

Hi coffeegurl! Oh my goodness! I have had that happen to me too! And you'd think I'd learn! I am a flip flop lover! I find them comfortable once you break them in! You see, I hate wearing shoes at all and will usually be barefoot unless I have to walk past my apartment, meaning to cross the street! I only pay $1 for mine! I have them in all different kinds, colors! And I have had them break, at the wrong times and had to walk home barefoot! Serves me right for walking anywhere in $1 flip flops, but I still love them!lol

No nothing like that has happened to me, but I have often wondered if it would. I actually really do like wearing them, I find them so comfortable, the only problem is I just cannot drive in them, as they slip off the pedal. Plus where I live, the weather is not all that great for them, so when I get a chance to wear them I generally do. I have about 4 different pairs, and I always keep one pair in the car, for when I drive somewhere, and want to swap my normal shoes for flip flops when I get there.

flip flops are definitely a fashion statement here. it's almost not cool to wear tennis shoes anymore. the kids are all wearing flip flops, to school, play, even church. they are cheap, but that means, you can just buy more. if you paid 6 bucks for a pair of tennis shoes, you wouldn't expect them to last either. I hate my feet being bound up in a pair of shoes so i am always wearing flip flops...just don't forget to paint your toenails!!!!

O I did! Best inexpensive quality nail polish for this summer is Salley Hansen Hard As Nails Extreme Wear. It's only $2 at Super Target. I luv "Green with Envy" It lasts for a whole week w/o chipping on the hands. Two weeks on a pedicure. Make sure you do two coats though.

Justo to clarify... indeed here in brazil flip flops are used by the poorest of our contrymen cuz most of them are really cheap. However cute ones like urs are used by more affluent people. You´ve gotta remember that wearing flip flops was or still is somewhat fashionable in the rest of the world and therefore here too.. You can easly distingish the cheap ones from the macy's ones ;).

I wear them everywhere although I know I should not. My dad makes fun of me for it when I see him and he wondered aloud one time when we went out to dinner if they would let me in, dressed like that. I realized that he was embarrassed and that was his way of saying so. Next time I wore shoes--I absolutely hate shoes! I wear shoes only when necessary. I have to go get some decent sandals but they don't seem to make any comfortable styles anymore, they nearly all have heels and go between the toes.

Birkenstocks are really comfortable, but the price has really shot up on them. Nike makes a pretty comfortable flip flop sandal. Not sure how much it is.

I can say as a small toddler I was always in flip-flops, but after around 6 years of age I really preferred wearing Sneakers and shoes with laces at all times of the year. I am someone who really hates showing any part of myself including my feet. I don't want to see other feet so,i'm a flip-flopper hater for life. I get how it's tempting during the hot weather to want to cool off your toes, but I would rather walk around on a hot day with socks and skate shoes on anyway. Besides I think shoes add to your outfit, like a style, can a person really coordinate their outfit with flip-flops and bare feet??? Just so you know I'm a girl who like sneakers, I state this since a lot of girls like flip-flops and some guys too :-(

Well, I don't really worry about the flip flops matching my outfit. I usually only buy flip flops that are either pink, red, or have red in them. And I wanted to show off my bright police-tape yellow toe-nail polish. I have been told I have pretty feet and I don't mind showing them and a good pedicure off.

That's a problem with flip flops. Either the toe strap would snap or they got turned over. Anyone who has used them would testify. I've had my equal share. But that doesn't stop me from using them. It's easy, practical and quite comfortable. Obviously it depends on where you are wanna go.

I think that's not true. There is this flip flops worth $50.00, do you think a poor man can afford to buy that much? Well that Brazilian might not be able to see the whole of Brazil

I have never been much of a flip flop wearer. I always enjoyed sandals instead. My teenaged daughter practically lives in her flip flops. She has several pairs. She prefers flip flops over wearing any other types of shoes. She even wears them to school. Several of her friends do this as well. She even has my four year old niece wanting to wear them all of the time.

I like wearing flip flops. And one of my favorite flip flops is actually from Brazil (Ipanema is the brand). I've had it for over a year now and so far, it didn't snap. I also collect Havaianas. My feet feels much better wearing flip flops and it's a lot more comfortable. I actually can't remember any incident where a pair of flip flops failed/embarrassed me.

I don't wear flip fkops as they seem uncomfortable to me but thats just my opinion as many of my friends wear them and say they are fine. I prefer wearing trainers or sandels that are more comfy and suitable for me.
