It is difficult to repair a computer when it does not work. The hard drive breaks down the what should I do if I don't know how to repair. Do I have to change the hard disk or I send the cpu to a technician for a repair?

if you are not familiar with repairing a computer i think you should better give the pc to a technician because it can be risky to repair it yourself without the knowledge but still if you think you can do it yourself here are some tips 1)First of all switch off all power supply to the computer, monitor etc. 2)Switch off the SMPS(Power supply unit) if your SMPS has any such switch 3)Disconnect all the wires from your computer cabinet 4)Open the cabinet screws 5)Use some compressed air cans or blow air using a vacuum cleaner 6)Remove all the dust that has accumulated (which is visible) 7)Remove the wires associated with the hardware you want to repair(check) 8)in your case it is the harddrive, so remove the cables connecting the harddrive and the motherboard . harddrive and the SMPS. 9)Check these cables , if they are burnt or having cuts(better replace them with a new one. mostly you get extra cables with your purchase) 10)Clean the slots where these cables are inserted. 11)Replace the cables and insert the cables in the slot. 12)check the connections twice. 13)screw back the cabinet cover 14)plug in all the wires tightly 15)Now after checking all the connections twice switch on the power supply and the SMPS power button. 16)log on in to your pc , if the hardware is working properly then its good. if your still having problems then you need to check your hard drive. contact the company for warranty details and just give them the hard drive at their service center.

Hello wisdom805 and welcome to myLot, What do you mean by "the hard drive breaks down" ? What sort of message have you on your screen when you start your computer ? Try to boot your computer with your install CD or DVD. Look if you can access your hard drive : if yes, you can reinstall you system (maybe you will have to reformat your computer and you will lose your personal data, maybe not). If no, as you don't know how to repair, I think that the best to do is to send your unit for a repair.

In my opinion is better to get the computer to a technician or repair center if you not have the acknowledge or experience on how to repair computers, maybe the fault is not the hard drive and could be repaired without changing it. Good luck...

want to ask, what specific problem have on your pc? Its more difficult to repair when you dont know the problem. you said one of your option is to send your pc for repair so you mean you dont know to fix pc problem even basic ones. do you hear your pc beep once? if it beep once well you can say that your video card motherboard and your PC memory are still ok and its one of the basic repair method we use.But if beep many time, well better have it look with an pc expert.. happy Mylotting hope you like this site..

Try clean your hard disk drive, then after that check they power supply to your hard disk, if it is ok then go check the IDE/SATA cable, if it needs cleaning then clean it... often time dust causes the malfunction of computer hardware parts...

If you don't know how to repair, then you better send it to computer store or technician for repairing. Trust me on this or you might end up screwing your other computer parts. Unless you have time and passion to learn how to fix it (and have the guts and don't care about the worst case scenario), then just try it by yourself. You can googling on internet as the information is scattered anywhere on how to fix your computer. I will give you list of suspectible case when computer is not working. 1. If you can boot your computer and hear annoying "beep"-ing sound, then it is your RAM trouble. Try to unplug then plug it again. You should clean it also from dust to make sure the electricity is fine. 2. If you can boot up but only get a blank screen (usually your monitor LED is blinking), then it is very likely your VGA is damaged. For this case, have no other idea than replace your VGA 3. If you can boot up your computer, but can't enter operating system, then it is very likely that either your Operating system failed (repair or even reinstall it is the easiest way to do it) or you have failed Hard disk (try to re-format it to avoid bad sector, if this failed, then you should replace your hard disk with new one)

Hey Wisdom, Welcome to my LOT Do you know about IDE/SATA cables, these are the wires that connect your hd to the motherboard, they get worn out from time to time, you can unplugged, dust by blowing air into it then reconnect it again. Also check the DC supply cable, try the first step and we message later.

1. Try to change the hard disk first, just to make sure that the problem of your computer is the hard drive. If same problem exists, then let the technician troubleshoot the problem. 2. If it's okay...you need to install the Operating System: a) Insert the Operating System CD/DVD b) Press F2 or F10 or ESC (it depends) c) Follow the instructions shown on the monitor until it is successfully installed or try to search in the internet on how to install OS. 3. Hope this helps.
