It seems to me that this category describes us all, yet I have seen no posts to the category since I joined MyLot. Perhaps I can get to be number 1 in this category, if nobody else posts here...My job seeking goes on every day, but to no avail. There are no jobs out there, for *Anybody*.... My plans to change the world are well developed now.... I am working on making my own job, because nobody will give me one. A job that will give me financial security, that will help my customers to improve their own lives, and that will give opportunities to lots of people at lots of different levels.... I was taking part in a discussion that was deleted where someone was ranting that she had a way to change the world, all we had to do was to believe her instead of being cynical and disbelieving.... I really am trying to change the lives of lots of people for the better. This is meant to start a discussion, note it is not a question.

As with the other responses, I am a work at home job seeker. My daughter suggested a site and from it I found MyLot. I also do mystery shopping for several providers while I am waiting for the right job interview to be arranged. I have applied for at least 7 positions a week for several months without any success. I do have another interview scheduled for work outside the home later this week.
I have also decided to return to college and change my career focus after I finish it. I don't have a change the world philosophy: I just want to change myself.

We are mostly at home job seekers on MyLot I think. Glad to know for a fact that I amnot on my own. Sometimes it's easy to forget that.
I think the whole world is turning into a population of micro-workers, everyone with 6 or 7 part time jobs, all paying tiny amounts so we all have to work ridiculous hours to make ends meet.
I am a bit old to learn new tricks, so college is out. I am not willing to invest the time and then in two years' time get no job out of it. I am very cynical about further and higher education. I think that the colleges and universities provide courses that they can sell to students and keep themselves in jobs, rather than courses that will get students jobs.

I'm pretty old to learn new tricks, too, but I have always wanted to do something different. I love horses and I have been intrigued by Hippotherapy. I am interviewing for a job at a Community College working as a barn assistant and will be able to take classes for Physical Therapy Assistant at no cost. (odd for a 57 year old, isn't it?) Once I finish that, I hope to go on to become a Physical Therapist with a sound understanding of using horses.
I did own a ranch and breed horses for ten years from 1997 to 2007. I had to give up my last horse two months ago to move to where I live now to be closer to our kids so they could help me with caring for their now disabled and blind father.

I too am a work-at-home job seeker and I am currently working at home as much as is possible for me. Right now of course I am on mylot and I also do some work on mturk when I have time. In addition to that, I babysit my two nieces during the day (saves my brother and sister-in-law some money and also helps me out as well) and I am a Tupperware representative. I would love to be able to make enough money from home for our family to be financially secure, but for right now, just giving us the wiggle room in our budget is enough for me.

We all have lots of irons in the fire don't we. I am on here but not to earn, $1.20 in 6 weeks, :) ....I wish I was allowed to do paragraphs...What ridiculous number of posts do I have to be on before that? .... I must look at mturk, I have heard people mention it a few times...In some ways I am lucky, few grand redundancy and unemploymet benefit for a year. I just have to start those snowballs rolling down the hill, so they'll be big enough to pay the mortgage in 9 months time. Most of my efforts are spent on the blog front, plus my world changing plan of course. Good luck to us both.

Not a very helpful comment. You obviously don't understand 'tongue in cheek'. I can laugh at myself, but I don't appreciate sarcasm

I currently have a fulltime job thru my city, but after everything that comes out my check, i have little more then the amount of my rent left. Its horrible. I would love to be a work at home parent. I recently started looking for an extra income from online earning. I've been doing it for a month and have made a couple hundred dollars. its just a lot on top of working fulltime, school fulltime, three young children and trying to find time with my husband. Medical Benefits is what keeps me at my job. I have young children and have to keep health insurance. So right now I'm just trying to make extra money until I find something better and stable.

It is very difficult. I sypathise (ize) lol especially with young children. IMy kids have left home now, but I remember it well. I would leave home at 6am, be inschool for 7am to catch up on m arking ( I taught Chemistry) teach all day then do 4 hours private tuition most evenings and Sunday. I remember it well, so do my kids.
The rate of pay for most of these micro jobs is appalling. I am part of the problem, when I post tasks on here I offer the lowest rate I can, because so far I am using my redundancy money and when that's gone I am really in trouble.
I try to take time out to promote sites that are goiing to earn for me next year and the year after, to write articles taht link to them, to post here with muy site in my profile. These tasks pay nothing, but I consider the time spent as invested (loike saving money I suppose) for the future.
I will be contacting MyLot friends in advance of my 'big idea' ahead of the date, but it is a long term slow burning plan, not Magic Money Button Scam

Interesting to say the least. I have read your discussion as well as the added responses. I too am in the same mind frame as yourself. Having worked for the same company for 21 years to end up even without as much as unemployment, really started my thinking process. I am in my early forties, so you see I have been working at it since I was a kid, although I have some really tough decisions to make in the next coming weeks, one things for sure: long term. Although I need a desperate job to keep myself afloat, I finally realized that what it is going to take is my own doings and not the dictatorships from an employer, as I am not the young chick I use to be. So I too was fortunate to have a little savings to be able to venture out, while all along all I could think of: the great number of people in my boat and even worse. I have to say that my long term goal is to be successful for me on a long term basis, but most importantly how can I can I do this while even perhaps helping others. So good to see that there is one other person as myself thinking long term and not the next payout. I will watch for your tasks as I am always looking for improvements to my already current plans. Thanks!

Glad to hear that I am not on my own, that someone else has come up witha similar answer after a hard look at the problems of losing their job in middle age. Maybe, by forcing us all to act, unemployment will be the makings of us all and we will be better off next year than we are now.
I think we have to balance necxt year's possible large income against the probable few cents we can earninstantly. We all have to balance short termcash against long term slower cash.
Check out Alex Jeffreys, a guru who has free pdf files you can download by signing up to him. Reading them, especially the first 2 (the third is largely bumpf) helped me to develop my ideas

This is my first time to join in mylot, this portion get my attention, when am reading Mr. Philtrate discussion,it comes to my mind my experience yesterday.I'm a full time mother for eleven years, and I was happy for that career. But in time of needs,I'm now a job - seeker. And I'm trying to do so to find a job.My sister's friend offer her kindness to refer me in the company where she's working. And I went there to apply,I belong to the first group, we're 14 applicants in the first group, and 12 applicants in the second group, and 9 applicants in the third group. When the result of evaluation finished,we are all failed.I don't lose hope and I take it as a challenge, because I do believe that GOD has a plans to each and everyone..I sit for awhile and I was wondering that, is the company has a very high standard, or an interviewer was very strict. Some applicants are mass com graduate, engineers, teachers, commerce and with experience, why no one has pass,
that everyone willing to undergo training, willing to learn well and work hard..How can we say we can prevent poverty if there's no giving chances to anybody. How we can help needed people to do their duties and responsibilities for the bright future for their family, kids, and youth, which is they are our future hope,,,How????? I'm not blaming that company or anyone else, because it comes to my mind that they are only protecting their company..but,what is the use of training itself if we don't give chances... isn't it that this is how we mold, teach, develop, and trainee well before send us as an employees..Who can help us,how they help us,and when they will help us? The time, the days,a month,a year passing by, can we wait, if it is too late? ..So we must not give up and stay with faith, that GOD enlighten everyone's mind and heart.......

The problem with mature candidates is that they have more life experience than the interviewer very often and the interviewer feel threatened that the mature candidate could take over the interviewer's job in a year's time, Cynical, but it gives me an explanation for why I, a teacher with 30 years experience cannot find even an interview for a job.
That's why I am trying to create my own job, workingat home, on the Internet, on my website and article writing.
I think we all have to create our own jobs and to help others to create their own. That is the only viable future, not the peanut paying micro-jobs. Though there will always be a need for people willingto work for cents rather than dollars.
Treat working on lineas a full time job would be my advice to anyone trying to earn on the Internet. I work 12-14 hours a day at it

mostly you are right and there are many people here who are really job seeking and want to get into one but may there are many factors which are effecting their thoughts and hence they are writing at mylot just to themselves free for sometime and be far out of all these thoughts whoich may be depress them. even i like to get into a job, i have the qualification required to get into a good job but for me i have more of responsibilities at home as i am a mother of two little kids and need me more and also other factors at home and just to make my mind free i write sometimes at mylot and i really feel nice about it. i must appreciate your thoughts as you arent just thinking about yourself and also thinking about others too.

I agree MyLot is a 'Feel Good' site and that is important. The support we give to each other is helpful and, certainly on my part, fully appreciated.
We all have to decide on our own priorities. Nobody else can ever criticise anyone's decisions because they do not have all the information.
I think the only way to success, financially, is to satisfy a need that we find, a real need, not a guru fantsy need. I am not as philanthropic as all that, I still need to earn a living, hopefully, I can do it by finding a need and fulfilling it.

No site stays good forever. The owners get lazy or slapdash. Did you consider starting your own site? It doesn't cost as much as you might think. Mylot is a good place to pick up ideas from others and peole here doshare ideas and rersources

I think that a lot of people have an interest in working from home and I am definitely one of them! However, I don't think it's that easy! I have been looking for jobs online and carrying out research and it's so difficult to filter through the legitimate opportunities and the scams that are in effect. I think the closest I'm going to get to actually working at home is if I put more time into My Lot!
I suppose there are the surveys to think of as well and some are better than others. That's quite a challenge, to try and change the world and I'm pretty sure it's not easy but then again you may be up to the task! I'm just happy and content in my own little world! In terms of working at home I'm sure that the majority of people would just love to do this. Andrew

Working from home is the ideal way to earn an income. That's why there are so many people looking for ways to do it, such a big market for gurus and their Scam Magic Button MoneyMaking Opportunmities. You are a very well qualified guy. If YOU cannot find a job - what chance have I got, an ex teacher, ex Cash In Transit security guiard?
You are never going to pay your bills using MyLot income, unless you have hundreds of people posting on your behalf around the world, now there's an idea, lol.
I am happy and content too, but when the dole runs out next February I will be in serious trouble, that's why I have to work at the long term plans, even if it means no 20c here and 3c there.
I am working 12 hours a day on my plans, they won't really change the world, but they should make it a small bit better for a lot of people. And if this plan does not work out, or some guru pips me to the post I have other plans that use the Internet to help real people, not just would-be Internet entrepreneurs(and profit from doing so).

Yes I am a WAH Jobseeker. I have worked from home since 2007. I have had several different contract jobs from customer service via VOIP, simple texting as well as joining job sites like MTurk. A few of the places like MTurk that I am signed up for is CloudCrowd on FaceBook, MTurk, ShortTask,MyEasyTask and MinuteWorkers. I have stuck with CloudCroud and MTurk because I have been paid by them via PayPal several times. I have completed tasks at ShortTask as well as MinuteWorkers but have not reached payout yet and I cannot verify that they will pay. I would really like to get involved with something I could make an income at that I enjoyed and that I could refer other people to that would provide them with an income as well. Possibly one day I will find what I am looking for. Good luck with your search.

Thanks for that Shellyann. I think thew only way to make an income like you or I need is to approach the whole thing as a business To think about the business, to work ON the business, rather than in it. Bill Gates does not screw motherboards together, ands I bet he never did. I will keep working for the longterm, investing the time I have in my websites for long term benefits.
If I split my efforts, between long termand short term I will NEVER get anywhere long term. I am always looking for new ways to solve people's needs as I find them. I think that is the key. Hence my world changing plan this month(slight exageration).

hi there! well, i quit my job to focus on being a full-time home maker, but then this other side of me that's wanting to earn or at least add to our savings is taking over. i've been checking out steady work-at-home jobs but i guess i haven't found the right one. that's why i still continue my paid blogging, article-writing in bright hub, and making tasks in cloudcrowd.
it's good to know that your purpose in making your own job is to make a difference. maybe you should try social entrepreneurship? my classmate worked for a multinational company but decided to quit and focus on building a business with a conscience.

I don't think there is a rignt one. All of the microjob type sites seem to mean selling your time very cheaply. There is an oversupply of people willing to work for very little at basic tasks, so these tasks will never pay a living wage, at least not a European or American living wage.
I suppose social entrepreneurship about describes my masterplan to take over the universe, though I had never heard of the term before, it fits. But I am in it to make money as well.

Thanks for your vey frank opinion. I am also a job seeker particularly because I have retired from my active service and it is becoming extremely difficult for me to run my family. I wish you success which would help people like me.
You can change the world if you so desire if you know what you exactly want to do and how to achieve them.
Best wishes.

Thanks for your good wishes. I am not totally serious about changing the world, except hopefully in a small way. If I do succeed, be sure I will be spreading the opportunities among the people on MyLot first. I do plan to post a series of tasks on here next week.

hi. I think there are just too many catagories and too many duplicates, or near duplicates, ie interest, something i'd like to do, something i have done... etc
Glad to know you're still kicking into the Mylot site. I've been out of the loop for a few days.
I also do love Mturk, though i'm yet to find out how useful the earnings will be as it is linked to amazon.com (read american) though you should be able to use them on .co.uk and it's still mostly tiny stuff.
I think the way to go to earn decent amounts is probably more elance jobs. great site but you need to pass a teast before you start so i'm not using it yet - test is supposed to be easy enough if you just read the material
It's also important to be registered at linked-in if you are offering freelance. You probably already are but i wasn't for a long time and it really is facebook for freelance.
@Philtrate (254)

7 Jun 10
I just looked at MTurk. Not going to work for peanuts, yet...Tried freelancing.com or some such. More people willing to work for peanuts than there are jobs on offer. Free market drives prices down, down, down.
Glad to see you on here again. I had noticed you weren't around.
I have not looked at elance yet, next job. I will work on the article writing for Demand Studios, if my world changing plan comes to nought. The world should look different by the end of June, lol.
I looked at Linked In, before I was made redundant. Could not register then because my job was in cash in transit and it would have been a security risk to disclose that in a public forum. Another job to do, Manyahna (or however it is spelled)
I think the only way I am going to earn enough is to employ other people online. There are not enough hours in the day to work for cents here and there and to pay the bills.

Everybody else is trying to be one. It's low paying but it's real and legit and not a scam..(i'm referring to mylot). Not unless you will try academic researches that pays to well to what you deserve . It's a lot of work and researches and complying to a standard format and meeting a deadlines. BUT if you did not meet the deadline, you'll get fined because of putting somebody into trouble.

I find it difficult to switch from one program's requirements to the next. I can only do one site at a time. For most the pay is not worth the air I breathe while doing it. I invest the time in promoting my blog and posting in forums like Mylot, no pay, but you make contacts and hopefully gain a good reputation for honesty that you can always use to your benefit at a later date. I have not tried the academic research thing. As an exteacher it seems too much like cheating and immoral. People should do their own research in my opinion
