Have you seen the place where your grandparents were born?

Many years ago my parents, my brother and I visited the island where my paternal grandparents and my great-grandparents were born. That island is pretty far away from the place where I was born and it is expensive to go there, so I was very happy that we managed to visit the place. We even found a village that had the same name as as my grandmother. We weren't looking for that village, we found it by coincidense. It was a very, very small place, there were only a few houses. Unfortunately none of us had brought our camera that day, so weren't able to take a picture. At a cemetery we also found the graves of my great-grandparents. My father was a little sad when he saw them, because the graves had been totally neglected, and it was almost impossible to read the names. Did you have the chance to visit the place where your grandparents or great-grandparens were born? Or are you interested in seeing those places? Is is close to the place where you grew up or far away?

When I got the job in our capital city which is Manila, I got the chance to meet the relatives of the side of my dad. They invited me to go to their hometown, a place for my great grandfather and grandfather. Because of the relatives of my dad I got the chance to visit my ancestors place and I also put some flowers to their grave. They show me their ancestors house which is still intact and very well good. I stayed there and sleep for 1 night only. One of my uncle is staying in that house. For the side of my mom, yes I got the chance to go there every summer. Because its just near in our place. I guess I am lucky to visit them before they go to heaven.

It must have been an interesting experience to visit that place. I haven't seen the house where my paternal grandparents or great-grandparents lived, but I got to visit the island where they were born. My mother's parents and grandparents were born pretty close to the place where I grew up, so it was easier to visit that place.

@porcospino it is indeed the interesting part of my journey because after 29 years living here on earth that is my first time to see and visit the place. I just hope that it will not be the last. I wishing that I could go back there and visit them one more time.

After my wedding last year, my family and I went to visit our grandparents hometown. We have to travel for 7 hours by bus to get there and it was a lot of fun. My grandparents stay in our hometown and when we went to their hometown, we were able to meet their brothers and sisters. I was so happy to find out that my grandmother was able to talk on the phone to her only sister. It was a far place and they never expected they will talk again because it has been 40 years since they last saw each other.

It must have been a great experience for your grandmother to talk to her sister again. 40 years that is a long time. When we visited the island where my paternal grandparents were born we also got the chance to meet some of their brothers and sisters, and some of my father's uncles, aunts and cousins. It was nice to talk to them, because we can't meet very often (it is expensive to travel from my island to their island)

No I haven't been there. I don't know the birth place of my grandparents on the mother side. Maybe I'll ask her some time and plan a vacation there some day. In my father side I know where they were born but I haven't been there also. Its too far so I don't think I will go there in the near future.

Yes! In fact, my grandparents still live in the same house where my grandfather was born. It was the house of my grandfather's parents (my great-grant parents) and although decades have passed since they built it, it's still standing strong today. It's one of the oldest houses in that area, actually. It's located in the countryside and although they have strengthened the house by continually repairing and adding stuff to it, they did their best to maintain the "old" early 1900's look.

I am from a family where we move a lot. My grandparents and my parents have lived in many different houses, and we have never had a house that belonged to our family for so many years, so I am a little jealous that you have a house like that in your family The house is like a part of your family history and I find that fascinating.

Hi P, I was born in the place where my grandparents (both my mom and dad sides)live. Until now my mom and my three siblings live there. It's an 8-hour drive to reach our province from where me and my family lives right now by 35 minutes by plane. i love the place --the place where i spent my childhood and teen life.

Well yes, but the place has been completly renovated. No old houses only few temples and schools are the same. few tiny villages have been merged and they have almost vanished in the district maps. I visit my maternal-paternal ancestral village and my inlaws village too almost every year. Its nice to visit those villages. Away from busy city life. Cool air and good water. We enjoy our short stay and visit the old temples.

It's a pity that I havn't. My grandfather(my father's father) left this world when my father was in university, so I even can't meet him. My grandmother(my father's mother), no one know where was she born. I've been to my grandmother's(my mom's mother) house when I was a little child, but it wasn't where she was born, though it's where she spent her childhood. My grandfather(My mother's father), he was born in Heilongjiang province, where is far from where I was born.
