Birthday Parties

Birthday parties can be so expensive and often we feel it necessary to throw a brilliant party for our children causing our pockets to burn holes in them. In the summer months it is easier to throw a cheaper party (and much less messier) as children can go outside in the garden though in the winter it is either in the house or hiring somewhere indoors.
What are your winter child party ideas and how do you save money?

I was able to cheat a little with 3 of my 4 boys because their birthdays all fell within 1 week of each others, yeap, 3 birthdays in one week!! So they were celebrated together which was in the winter month of January. Usually at McDonalds when they were little and that was so cheap. McDonalds even provided the cake for just barely extra!! And they had the indoor play area so that was nice. As they got older we moved to the local pizza shop, which, of course cost more because of the video games, but the parties always went off without a problem.
My other son was a December baby and his birthday always fell within a week of the local Christmas parade. His birthday was the first week in December and the local parade was also the first weekend of December so we always based it around that. I would take a car load of kids to see the parade, come home, have cake and icecream, play games and order pizza. It always went without a problem either.
Our daughter is a May baby so we always had a bar b q...water balloon fights...everything to do with being outside.

That is certainly one good thing about having children born all around the same time! Where you end up spending more at one time on presents you can save on joint parties!

Hi Elfbwillow, I think it is disgusting theprice of parties these days and also disagree with party bags. My son went to a party last week which was a two hour disco in a hall the child had invited loads ofpeople and thepary bag he came away with propbably cost more than the £5 I spenton the childs present. I cheat I have a few friends round to the home, we do traditional pass the parcel etc and I aks them all what they want in the wqayof a happy meal that way they get a toy to take home something to eat and frink and then I buy a birthday cake. This usually costs me less than £30 in total. They have lots of fun and get prozes for the games but no party bags as such. Not all parents can afford the price of hall and to hire discos etc. The hall down the road when I enquired wanted £110 for 2 hours and I would have had to still provide food, they did provide the entainment but even so pricey in my book, would rather spendthis amount of money on a present for my child. Huggles. Ellie :D

The idea of a happy meal is a great one - I never even thought of that! I agree with party bags. I have seen many party bags in which look like they cost loads and if you attempt to make a party bag with small cheap items you end up getting funny looks from parents!
