How many cook books do you own?

Australia

I don't have an exact amount that I currently own but I own at least 15 - I did have more as when my mom passed away, I inherited all of her worldly possessions. Before I got rid of a heap through freecycle, I had about 30!! There are only about 3 that I regularly refer to but the others do come in handy so I don't think I will be getting rid of any. How many do you own? How many do you consider too many?

I dont have many literally only a couple as I tend to use the internet to search for new ideas. However, I do wish I had more! I dont think you could have too many though I probably think around twenty would be a good number as if you have too many you probably wouldnt use them all.

I really need to purchase some cook books. I only have one cook book to my name. I purchased it over fifteen years ago. It is a cook book with apple recipes, I have only made one item out the whole cook book since I purchase it. It was a apple crisp reciep and it comes out great, Maybe one day I will try some of the other recipes.

There are also plenty of recipe websites & if you are a member of freecycle, there maybe people in your area giving cook books away too.

I have 2 shelves full of cookbooks. I use at least half of them, and seem to buy up more all the time. I love having a variety of things that I can cook. I know that if I'm ever in the mood for a particular something I should have a recipe for it!

I own, 3. That is more then I will ever need. I also own two cooking dictionaries. I own Professional Cooking, by Wayne Gisslen, The French Laundry by Thomas Keller, and The Chef's Compendium of Professional Recipes by John Fuller and Edward Renold. I guess I also got this cooks record book, that is basically a journal, that I have never taken the time to fill out, in my stocking a few years ago. That is more then anyone ever "needs", they explain the basics, and The French Laundry is Fine Dining, at its best. All recipes(except baking) are just guidelines and open to interpretation, and experimentation with the possibility of improvement. My wife has well over 50, and this is after I snuck 40 some into a to sell box, she noticed and seemed to be okay with it though, so I didn't get in too much trouble, odd thing is, I think I have seen her use a Cook Book, 10 times in 5 years.... Sincerely and With Appreciation.

I only ever refer to 1 or 2 of my cook books but if I can't find a recipe in either of them, I search the other books.

When I can't find a recipe I am looking for (except baking) I just make up what I want, or use the internet. I prefer to make stuff up though, it is funner for me.

I own a plethora of cookbooks, too many to count. They are my major source of reading material and I love to look at the pictures. Even though I can now get recipes off the internet, it's more fun to look through the books and enjoy the illustrations. Some of my cookbooks are well-worn and stained; those are my standards. I'd be lost without them, even though I often devise my own recipes. Aside from being valuable reading material, to me, cookbooks are works of art.

I agree, they are works of art.

I probably have about 15 also. There are two I refer to a lot and I have my own book of recipes that I have. Really, I should go through the books I only dip into and copy out the useful recipes and then pass them on or sell them. Too many is any book you don't use!

I agree that too many is any book you don't use...I do admit that I never use all my books but I do search every book when looking for a particular recipe just to see if I have it before searching on the net.

I dont collect cook books but my mother in law has them like a whole shelf of cookbooks. I actually like looking at cookbooks because food really looks good. I wanted to buy some cook books but they are expensive. My mother also has cookbooks but not as many as what my mother in law has.

I agree, they are expensive...the food in the books look great too - I just wish that when I duplicated a recipe, it would look like it does in the picture lol.

I don't own any cook books but my mom does.lol I never did bought something like that but I wanted to have those as a collection although I'm not usually cooking I still want to have those to somehow learn some nutrition facts of food. Guess I'm the only one who would acquire my moms cookbooks soon if I'll be a mother.

That is one good way to learn nutritional values - cook books.

I used to own hundreds, I collected them but got rid of every one of them when I moved to a much smaller house But in my head and on my hard drive there are millions of recipes, I also write and sell low fat recipe e-books . I am shocking for tearing recipes out of magazines in doctors and dentist waiting rooms too!!!!

I too rip out recipes in waiting rooms if I see one I like lol. I would love to know how to write an ebook so I can sell them like you...I do however earn money through a recipe site.

I have a number of books from a to z. But I have not even start cooking yet. Am bad at cooking. I bought those books so my mom can follow for cooking. I love cakes. Most recipe books I bought are pastries.

Please don't say you're a bad cook - I believe that until people can find their bearings in the kitchen, everyone can cook following a recipe - as long as you follow it, nothing can go wrong & then once you get better, you can add your own spin on things :)

I am a huge collector of cook books, and at the moment at a guess I would say I have perhaps 50. But that is without the magazines that I have... Everytime I do a grocery shop, I end up buying the most recent cook book, I don't always refer to them, but I do like to try out new things, and I think I have at the moment 200+ magazines stacked up lol...
