Who Takes Care Of Your Pets When You Go on Vacation?

We have never boarded any of our pets. My sister in law would usually take care of my old dog and my neighbor would come by and feed the cat when we had one, but my new dog is not as mature and well behaved as my old dog and my sister in law does not have a fully fenced yard so it would be hard for her to watch her. This year our friends are watching our dog in exchange for favours we have done for them. I know they will take good care of her but they don't have good fencing either but they promise they will take her out with a leash when ever she needs to go.
So who takes care of your pets when you are away? Do you ever feel worried or guilty when leaving them?

Our cats go to the cattery which we have used for many years, the dog usually comes with us but if he has to board there is a really nice kennel nearby. We felt very worried the first time we left him because he came from a shelter and we thought he might be all stressed out. Thankfully the staff there are really good and looked after him well. I don't think he's overly happy in the kennels but we know he is okay - they also walk the dogs twice a day and not all kennels do that.
I think it is important to find a good place to take your pets if you don't have a reliable friend or relative (we have reliable friends and relatives but most of them have their own pets so couldn't look after ours).

My maid takes care of my pets when I go on vacation. My hamsters mostly just sleep and sleep, doubt they will realise I am gone. But I have a friend who has two dogs, and he misses them like crazy when he's away from them. His mother will literally cry when they go on vacation, because they can't bear to part away from their pets.

We're going on a long trip this vacation, all the way to California! Our Uncle, who isn't really our uncle, is going to take care of our dog this time. Normally we have my aunt do it, but they can't this year. Our dog is a huge German Sheppard who needs room to run around, so we need fencing for her. Of course we feel guilty when we're away, and I wonder what's going to happen to her. I'm sure she'll be okay this year, though.

My family has always been the same- we ask other family or friends that live nearby to watch our pets when we go out.
I do feel guilty for leaving them, because I don't think they understand what going on. I'm sure they think at some point that we may not come back, and that makes me feel so guilty!

hello ladym33..my sister in law who happens to be my neighbor is the one who takes care of my pets when me and my family go on vacation..i have a big aquarium with some gold fish in it and one dog and one cat but before i leave i make sure that my pets food are enough until i came back so i have this peace of mind that my pets are ok even without me.

I used to either take my dog with me on vacation or put him in a kennel. My mother-in-law recently moved to our area and she loves taking care of our dog, so if she is available, we leave him with her now. It is really nice to be able to have family help us. It saves so much money! I do feel guilty when I leave him. But, it feels so much better to leave him with family than to put him in a kennel.

My husband and I have many pets, so we always have to plan everything in advance when we want to go on vacation. We have found a great dog kennel, and our dog usually spends the time there when we are going away on vacation. The kennel is owned by a couple and they take good care of the dogs. Our cat spends the time in a different kennel, the place is okay, but not as good as the dog kennel, and we would like to find a different place for the cat. My mother-in-law takes care of our rabbits while we are away and my mother takes care of our guinea pig.

There's no day care for pets in my area, so I have to leave them with my cousin. I don't feel satisfied though as it won't be the same as I take care of them. But there's nothing that I could do about it. My cousin does a good job everytime but I always feel like I am imposing on her. She need to look after seven cats each time.

we don't often go away and leave our pets because we have so many of them :)
One time our friend came over and pet sat for us, she was wonderful but I wouldn't ask her again because she had two dogs of her own at the time and although they were friends with ours, they found it very hard to settle.
We were lucky to find a really good kennels then where we could board out dogs and the owner, took our cats home with her to board them as she had cats of her own. Now we have moved though we will have to start looking around again in case we do need to go somewhere, I prefer to board our animals for a night or two a couple of times to see how they get on before we leave them for a proper holiday if we do go away... (Good job it's only every couple of years really lol)

its very rare that i go on vacations but when i do i would either keep my dog in a fenced yar and give him enough food and water till i come back.and before i leave i always ask my neighbor to comecheck on him and see if he has enough food and water and if he is doing fine.ya i kinda do feel guilty when i leave him alone but when i get bak from my trip i play with him alot and show him that i really missed him.but anyway when i leave he protects my back yard so no one will come through the bak.he is a very well trained dog.
